Guest fading star
United Nations call for Big Al - Press release Friday 24th July 2009 More NUSC members join to support Big Al as Manager. A ‘rainbow coalition’ has come together to call for the immediate hiring of Alan Shearer as manager of Newcastle United. United’s ‘United Nations have joined the clamour for the appointment with calls and e-mails flooding in to Newcastle United Supporters Club from the four corners of the globe. The campaign backed by over 2000 members of NUSC through an online petition on the www.nusc.org.uk now contains over 1300 signatures backing the message to the owner ‘the clock is ticking, Mike – time to sell up’. Messages backing the Chronicle and NUSC campaign to ‘do the right thing’ and appoint Alan Shearer as club manager have arrived from Italy, USA, France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, Serbia, Morocco, Monaco, Egypt, Ghana, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, China and Japan. A spokesperson for NUSC said. ‘We have members from across the world who reflect the diversity and worldwide reach of Newcastle United and also mirror the passion of the fans in the city. Many have links with the region. Their messages of support for Alan have been overwhelming and we believe that it reflects 99.9% of the fans. Alan will add much needed stability to the club along with a global reach that reflects the club’s true status. It is yet another demonstration to Mr Ashley that his last act could well be his best for the club – appoint Alan now and we believe that the club will become a more saleable asset which will allow him to walk away from the club knowing that he has done the right thing in the end’. NUSC membership is growing daily on the back of their joint campaign with the Chronicle and have gained over 300 members from various countries including 52 from Italy. http://www.nusc.org.uk/full_news.php?newsid=73 More than half now Roger. I thought NUSC had made it clear that they would only speak for their membership, so what's with the claim of effective backing from 99.9% of supporters in this latest press release? When did they do that? NUSC should have stuck to their guns. A clearly hostile approach to dealing with Mr Ashley might not have appealed to all supporters, but it was a clear position that many would back. Unfortunately the committee independently decided that NUSC should avoid being controversial and they lost clarity of purpose. This petition is a good example of how being polite and positive is a waste of time in the current climate. Obtaining Trust status is a worthwhile achievement and should be applauded, but NUSC has whimped out when it comes to more immediate concerns. The way things are going there won’t be club to invest in. Taking the kid gloves off and fighting dirty is the only way to speed up the sale.
