Cheick Tioté (1986–2017)

Recommended Posts

Out for tonight.

:(

Where did you read/hear this?  Need him more for the Everton game I reckon, Whelan and Delap are pretty mediocre.  Just a shame, as if Guthrie plays, Cabaye will probably end up sitting a bit deeper and won't dare to push on as much.

Caulkin tweeted that he's out yesterday. Judging from Pardew's comments on Taylor and him - Tioté sounds very unlikely to play. Guthrie might have played well at Blackburn, but it's Cheik's steel we'll miss.

Unless Guthrie comes up with a Brian Kerr/Jamie McClen/Claerence Acuna from the old days and plays a blinder just for the sake of it.

All I've heard is 'doubtful', can't find it confirmed anywhere.

Might not be the worst game for him to miss anyway TBH, the midfield are just going to get stiff necks watching the ball sail over their heads.

Is it just a one game thing or long-term?

This I reckon.

Yeh I'm travelling up to watch Everton game on Saturday, if he's not playing I'll be plenty gutted.

Wasn't missed yesterday, thanks to Guthrie. Still an absolute must that he'll play against the Manchester sides where we - in normal circumstances - won't dominate the midfield as much.

Hopefully we can afford to let him rest against Everton and then we have the international break so he can come back raring to go.

Unlike Stoke, Everton have decent central midfielders and they actually use them, resting Tiote would be fucking idiotic unless there's a chance his injury will recur.

Seems like it was a fairly close call for Stoke so I would've thought (wild speculation) that he'll be available for Everton.

Surely the fact an intentional break follows the match is more a reason to play him rather than rest him? ???

Nah. Ease him back. Should've been in the reserves today tbh. Get him ready for the Manc/Chels triple header.
