Though other than Carroll, we've not consistently been receiving £15m to £25m for the last 5 years or whatever for our best players...as well as a decades worth of Champions League money. Unlucky with injuries, if he'd been bought for a fraction of the price it would have been a successful signing. Wouldn't put it ahead of Mendieta, Shevchenko or Denilson as the worst of all time. Their wage outlay is sky-high though, isn't it? Not relative to their revenue (third lowest wage to revenue ratio in the league I think) and not in comparison to other top 4 sides.
