  1. Another proud moment of English sports journalism.

But looking at the amount of people on here who believed it was a done deal there is no wonder they always get away with it.

Not just this place like tbf, but still your point stands.

Wasn't meant to be a dig. The same applies to most other message boards as well of course. Still it makes me wonder how people can be so gullible.

  2. Still not convinced its true, to much of a media fuss over this, as it all started from "a source close to the club" kind of story, now its 7 mill fee agreed, agents over here for talks, tied up within 48 hours yet no quotes in which we are mentioned by name.

Get with the programme. Believe!!  bluerazz.gif

My policy is to remain ultra-optimistic till he or the club say no.

Your policy is also to get more or less everything wrong.

  3. I like how the story says the selling club are 'keen' to do a deal. At the £3m they reckon, Hamburg must be pretty hard up.

Especially as their director of football stated directly after the Euros that they are desperate to offer him a new deal even though he his still tied to them until 2010...

Interesting. Maybe they haven't been able to come to an agreement then?

It was rather a statement of intention to start talks. I don't think this has happened with the player just having come back from his extended holidays.

Sorry, but I reckon the S*n story is just pure rubbish.

  5. No news here at the moment. My main worry is that the fee looks small.

Aye he must be crap if he's only 3m.

Nah just kidding, does look a bit low for him,  I'd be thinking 7-10 in all honesty.

Agree it has to be at least over £5m imo.

How many years left on his contract?

    2

  6. What's Aimar's recent injury record like?

    Anybody?

Wiki reckons he only played 22 games for Zaragoza last year, sounds worrying.

More to do with form than injury as far as I know.

He had an operation in January and was out until April tbh.

  7. "Knowing the owner wants me to stay means a lot," Taylor told the Gazette. "Everyone knows I love this club and want to commit my future here, but the deal has to be right for me, and the club.

"I'm happy there's been some progress, and I hope everything's sorted out soon. It's all in the hands of my agent, and I can't really say any more."

He broke off his holiday to tell me today: “Knowing the owner wants me to stay means a lot to me.

“Everyone knows I love this club and want to commit my future here, but the deal has to be right for me, and the club.

“I’m happy there’s been some progress, and I hope everything’s sorted out soon. It’s all in the hands of my agent, and I can’t really say any more.”

Taylor must be a right media whore, ringing different people and saying exactly the same s***.

The stories printed in the Gazzette and in the Chronicle are always almost identical with just a few words chenged. Question is who is copying. Reminds me a bit of when Tyne-Talk used just to re-write stories they found on newsnow and replaced single words...

  8. I am really happy about the performance. Didn't expect it after the last two games.

It was good to see RLOLfes in the midfield role today instead of Fringes (I think I recommended Rolfes here or on Toontastic before, one of the most reliable footballers last season down here). Hitzlsperger played well as well.

Despite the blatant push from Ballack before our third goal I think Portugal just deserved to lose because of Ronaldo's antics. The moment just at the start of the second half where he goes down (questionable enough) then looks up to the referee, then stars to cry, was reason enough to want them go out. What a horrible c**t he is.

  9. Got a feeling Scolari will start Ronaldo up front with Gomes tonight.

Target Metzelder and Mertezacker and keep him away from Lahm.

That's where Huth would have been needed. He might not be good at kicking the ball, but...

Can't see us winning this tonight without a much improved team performance. As I said before the competition, we were going into it with too many players in poor form (some after injuries). Defence is too shaky, midfield gets dominated too easily and giving away far too many easy balls (Frings especially, I hope he won't be fit tonight). Gomez total lack of form is most disappointing. Probably he got a victim of all the hype and lost his confidence. The constant talk about him already having agreed a move to Munich isn't helping either. If it is true Munich officials want shot for stupid back stabbing...

  10. He looked alright did nothing much, looked tidy...Then scores of a deflected hit and hope. So should be a superstar on here by the morning.

Had a decent game, looked lively and scored the winner at the death. Like it being deflected makes any difference.

He had an ok game, not bad, but also no wanking material either (as it seems to some). Why do deflected goals not make a difference? Nobody wants to take the goal away from him, but 'keeper would probably have saved it otherwise, so it was less a matter of skills than of luck.

9m is overpriced imho anyway and I can't see any increase of value just based on this performance (which would be ridiculous anyway, even if he had played really well).

How the hell do you know?  He struck the ball well and for all we know it could have flown past the keeper without any deflection.

Because the 'keeper was already diving down in the right direction and the ball didn't have any real pace? It was hardly a wonder strike and I'd be pretty unhappy if the ball would have went in undeflected tbh.

The shot had plenty of pace, and while the keeper was diving it was anything but clear that he'd have gotten to the ball.  Unless you see a top down view of the incident you've got no idea to be honest, you're just making assumptions.

Of course it is an assumption. It's what I (and the people I was watching the game with) thought after watching the slow motion though. The 'keeper would have (hypothetically) had a better chance to save it without the deflection, which was the original point, i.e. being a deflection making a difference...

Judging by the first goal, I would have expected it to go in regardless of whether or not the keeper got to it.

    Touché.

  14. that engelaar has looked very good as well

Excellent game he's had. Classy midfelder with great prescence.

yep - could be be a realistic target?

28, plays for twente, not  a top club - looks just like what we need

Coach at Twente moved to Schalke and took Engelaar with him promptly, before anyone else came in for him after this tourney. The coach at Twente converted him to a DM from an AM, so he was loyal to him.

    Deal isn't finalised yet.

  15. i always thought that the italians would struggle without cannavaro who is a rock for them. dutch were outstanding though, is there any chance of getting van der vaart. the guy plays for hamburg and they are never champions league or uefa cup?

They played in the CL two seasons ago, in the UEFA-Cup last season and will next season.

Anyway, he gave an interview today where he said that he wants to move to a European top team.
