I meant the fact he quickly upped sticks for what he thought was a better job. He's done the same with us.

Maybe we should have offered Brighton £200k and then made him go to the CAS whilst bashing Brighton in the media.

Hopefully we got what we wanted out of him.

I'd happily just see him rot until the end of his contract. Some compensation would be nice but it's probably small fry in terms of overall picture of FFP.

My dream scenario is Man Utd decide fuck it and get someone else in instead and he's just left out to dry.

I don't begrudge people career advancement but come the fuck on you were only here for a year. Given we prised him from Brighton in similar circumstances we shouldn't be surprised I guess.

Not really. We paid Brighton what they wanted.

Really looks like the missing piece for Arsenal tbh. And they can always sell a couple of their 15 midfielders to help with FFP. Do hope he stays though, even if we were offered £200m. When you look up irreplaceable in the dictionary you get a picture or Alexander Isak.

They could have signed him when we did. Sucks for them.

I can help but feel were going about this all wrong. Why aren't we publically saying we'll take an employee off a rival club before any contact has been made with that club? Why aren't we complaining how people won't just release their contracted employees to us for nothing?  Why are we being discreet, diligent and professional?

Probably because we're actually serious about it. Unlike Jim Ratcliffe who hasn't realised goods and services require exchange of money at asking price value.

Compare to other parts of England? Is real estate cheaper in Newcastle?

Like is this property at this price is a steal?

In London it would be closer to £20m.

He was close to the end of his contract, and also wanted that big move. We did ok under the circumstances, of course a bigger fee would have been nice.

    I'm not rewriting shit [emoji38]

The buyers were PSG who were literally throwing money around for fun at that time. The problem was we had JFK as director of football who couldn't even pronounce Cabaye's name. Negotiations were doomed from the start with that idiot.

Wasn't he like 3m and sold for 20m Cabaye?

Short memories, Sissoko 1.5m sold for 30m. 20 x his value, and in fairness he was shit. We did well there.

In this sort of market now, that strategy wouldn't be so bad, because in fairness to Carr he'd have owners who wouldn't have baulked at Hazard and Aubameyang, the guy didn't just fly to France with no idea, he watched players for years, Tiote was scouted for 4 seasons on and off, he remembered watching Cabaye and recognised his quality in an under 18s tournament for France.

Think Carr did alright with the people he unfortunately worked under, he desperately advised us to sign Aubameyang and Eden Hazard only to be ignored by the idiots running and owning the club, the guy could certainly spot talent.

    Good little read here,

you need to scroll past the bits about his son Alan, and you'll get to the truths about him working under Ashley!

    Like this litte extract here,

'Mike sometimes called by here with the helicopter. He'd sit where you are, having a slice of toast.

'I learned you had to be positive with Mike, convince him. One of my first dealings with him, I was in North Shields with my wife and was told to be ready for a conference call.

'I panicked, I'd never been on one, I was driving around the coast charging my phone! We started talking about Ben Arfa. Mike had this thing with a 4-4-2, first-team players on £40k a week and understudies on £20k.

'He couldn't understand why we'd want Hatem and Jonas Gutierrez, two left wingers, on £40k. I knew Hatem could be brilliant, so I cut in, 'He's a No 10, actually, and he can cut in from the right'. That was it, done.

'But he had this plan — buy them younger than 25, with sell-on value. If I asked him to spend £10m on a 29-year-old, he'd f***ing laugh at me. Over time, that plan hasn't worked. But I do believe that he meant well.' It certainly worked in 2012 when Carr's signings, under Alan Pardew, finished fifth in the Premier League.

Cabaye was worth at least double what we sold him for. Don't re-write history to pretend that everyone wasn't gutted with the paltry fee we got for him and then having him replaced by Jack Passback.

This is the problem the sly 6 have now because of FFP/PSR, outside of themselves I cant seen any other team taking their "cast-offs" for big money anymore, they've created a monster now they may have to live with the consequences ...

Meanwhile clubs like us, Villa, Brighton and West Ham being clever about our business.

The way Pope’s shoulder went during a routine save for the 2nd time, I’ve got my doubts about his durability going forward.

Plus he had to have surgery in the summer as well.

Yeah totally, and I'm optimistic. Just, we've not really seen them in that kind of dilemma yet. Most of the original talk was about how the club needs to sell to finance other signings, so it's just interesting how lately the conversation has moved on to release clauses and 'can we keep him happy here?'.

Like I said, hopefully what I was saying ends up being totally irrelevant, but it's always worth keeping in mind.

Well they've never been one to sell their major assets in any venture. Also this club bluffs a lot these days, so saying we need to sell to buy could just be a negotiating tactic.
