  1. Heskey scored 11 goals for Wigan didn't he?

"Premiership signing/player of the season" Berbatov  got 12 goals.

If you look at the league top scorers only 3 got more then 14 league goals.

If you look at the league's top scorers Martins was joint 12th. And Berbatov has a lot more to his game than just goals. Unlike Martins.

Not as a goalscorer in my Opinion.

Obafemi Martins is the best two footed striker of the ball in the Premiership i think its 9 Left 6 Right 2 Head no other Striker has that in there game in the Premiership.

"Mr signing of the World" Berbertov is a better build up player/all round footballer but not as a Goalscorer in my Opinion.

  3. Former Newcastle assistant boss Kevin Bond has branded club chairman Freddy Shepherd a hypocrite for appointing Sam Allardyce as manager.

Bond was relieved of his duties at St James' Park soon after he was mentioned in the BBC's high-profile Panorama investigation into football bungs last September.

Bond, who had been at Portsmouth when the segment of the programme featuring him was made, has been cleared of any wrongdoing and is now suing both the BBC for libel and Newcastle for breach of contract.

Allardyce, then Bolton manager, was implicated in the programme but also cleared following the subsequent Stevens inquiry.

Yet Allardyce was appointed Newcastle manager last week and because of that Bond has accused Shepherd of double standards.

Bond told The People: "Morals and integrity are things people stand on when it suits them and they go right out of the window when it doesn't.

"It was easy for Freddy to take the moral high ground with me, it suits him to take the opposite stance with Sam because he believes - as I do - that Sam is the man for Newcastle United.

"It is the biggest U-turn in someone's stance on a matter that I have ever come across."

He added: "The hypocrisy of Freddy appointing Sam is staggering."

This issue aside, however, Bond admits he feels Allardyce is the right appointment.

Bond, who worked alongside Allardyce's predecessor Glenn Roeder, said: "In no way am I criticising Sam because I have nothing but admiration and respect for him, and I believe he is the right man for the job."

    Well f**k*** said Bond.

  4. Prediction of Big Sam first day line up, two new starters (defenders) two new bench players (defender and striker)

  5. Your a Mackem in disguise or your off your rocker!! Taylor's  obviously a bloody good defender who will get better and better. Our only  good defender, he's come up through the youth system captaining at most levels and he's a Geordie who geniunely loves the TOON. Give him a new contract! He's not your average footballing mercenery and he looks like he could be geniune class!

Steven Taylor is a outstanding prospect and has the qualities at such a young age to go on and be a Newcastle United Captain.

Certainly important this Summer for Big Sam and Shepherd to give him a contract he deserves.

  6. I wasn't one of those who got on Bramble's back and still consider him to be a useful squad player at most but peddling him to me says something else, that the culture of failure won't be tolerated any more. Bramble has had lots of time under many coaches now yet hasn't improved so this is kind of like Big Sam/the club now saying we won't be putting up with this any more. Great start.

    Agree

Hopefully he can get Sol Campball to partner Steven Taylor.

  7. So we are a "big club" based on a couple of decent seasons over the past 15 years, ONE current (wantaway, only here for the cash/move back to the PL) player and one EX player. Jesus.

The fact that we haven't won trophies in ages doesn't change the fact that Sam is now in a totally different environment then he was at Bolton.  At Bolton the expectation was low and the money was even lower, he now has to work in a big club environment (as in large resources, large expectations ect).  But I'm confident he can do it.

    Agree on the first part.

    Hopefully he can.

  8.

Keeping and building a team around our best player (Michael Owen) is vital for this club to get back to 3rd, 4th, 5th and consistently qualifying for Europe and challenging trophies a manager such as Sir Bobby Robson would see it and did see it with Alan Shearer when building a team around him.

Wrong! Building a team around a player with a dubious injury record who may or may not want to be here is neither vital nor even desirable!

Sam Allardyce should of used him press conference to express his DESIRE to keep Michael Owen NOT spending his time getting passionate about defending his "Ugly football tag" was my point.

Wrong! "Defending" his tactics is important - because he knows that small pockets of the Toon faithful don't want us to play long ball football and in order to be successful he needs the fans onside. Similarly, he addressed Michael Owen in his press conference - probably to the perfect degree. He is one player, and Big Sam acknowledged he needs to speak to him to see what he wants from his future. To say more would have been erroneous

Doubts about his lack of "Big Club" experience in his CV and dealing with "Big Club" players are perfectly valid ones.

Youri Djorkaeff. Jay Jay Okocha. Ivan Campo. Fernando Hierro. Nicholas Anelka. Some of the biggest names to grace the Premiership.

Don't get me wrong i was impressed with parts of his press conference like i have said but the key areas (Michael Owen) i wasn't thats all.

Michael Owen is not a key area of the club - he is a potentially important player in the squad. Huge difference

    Well put. :)

  10. Lets face it, some of us didnt want sam AT ALL  but Sam is the manager, so he needs faith and backing from the fans.

    Agree.

My point was the lack of Top Club experience showed in the press conference regards the Michael Owen situation remember this is a guy who has spent his life at a club like Bolton doubts about him not having a enough of a Big Club experience is a perfectly valid one the situations that have happened at this club political and press wise for the last 5 years will be a whole new thing for Sam Allardyce and his managerial skills to deal with.

But as i said there were positives in his press conference such us a new structured and constructive back room stuff which will provide a good support for the players to prosper.

He's not at a "Big Club", though. Teh hope is that he validates us in showing that we can BECOEM one.

"Big Club" in recent history for me is a club thats experienced High finishes in the Premiership 2nd, 2nd (Keegan) 3rd, 4th, 5th (Robson) and played Champions League football and has had World Class players, Alan Shearer greatest premiership goal scorer of all time and one of England's greatest ever centre forwards and Michael Owen one of England's highest ever goal scorers.

No club outside the "Big 4" has had that since the Premiership has began we are the 5th biggest club and are a "Big Club" due to our Premiership history.

There is no doubt the Newcastle United experience will be a big test for Sam Allardyce because it involves "Big Club" pressures managing "Big Club" players (Michael Owen).

Sam Allardyce has proven he can managed a small club pressures to get them 8th, 9th and 6th ect ect whether he can achieve Freddy Shepherd aims of bring back 3rd, 4th and 5th and European football consistently is something Sam Allardyce will have to prove.

YOu've fallen for it and started a thread around baseless nonsense from THe Sun.

Are you judging SA on one press conferance? Ridiculous. Surely you see that.

    Forget "The Sun" Article.

My points are not about that Article its about Sam Allardyce press conference. surely you can see that)

The press conferance was about him and his plans for the club NOT about Owen. He said he would speak to him. Are you naieve enough to think he is going to reveal how he will approach Owen to the world media even before he has spoken to him?

    :-[

Unbelievable. Give the bloke a chance.

He should of made it clear in the press conference keeping Michael Owen and building a team around him was something important to him comments of "its not all about Michael Owen" and "i will be asking him if he wants to stay or go" are not good enough for god sake Sam don't lose a World Class player before you have even had the chance to work with one.

Read the first line in the "How to build a team" handbook.

I better get Sir Bobby Robson autobiography out.

  15. I think the difference between Berbatov and Owen is that Berbatov wanted to come to the Premiership, agreed the move with Spurs and then snubbed Man Utd when they came in late.  With Owen there is the belief that he never really wanted to join Newcastle.

If he "didn't really want to join Newcastle" he would of stayed at that small club Real Madrid.

He wasn't playing much for Real Madrid, he wanted to play matches in readiness for the World Cup, preferably in the premiership.  Maybe I should have said I believe he would have preferred the option to move to one of the Big 4.

The fact is he had a option of staying with Real Madrid or going to Newcastle United and he picked to come to Newcastle.

That does not constitute to this Myth "he didn't really want to join Newcastle United"

  16. I think the difference between Berbatov and Owen is that Berbatov wanted to come to the Premiership, agreed the move with Spurs and then snubbed Man Utd when they came in late.  With Owen there is the belief that he never really wanted to join Newcastle.

  17. All this might be out of his control anyway but I cant see him being someone who would beg anyway. He'll say the same to all of them; piss or get off the pot.

Like i said there is a difference between begging and showing your desire in your press conference to keep your World Class player.

His desire to defend his "Ugly football" tag was obvious.

I hope thats not a on going theme.

In regards to the Michael Owen situation when talking in his press conference i was disappointed but the positives of a structured and constructive back room staff were the positives.

I am not against Sam Allardyce but his lack of Big Club experience and experience with Big players is a big issue for me especially if Shepherd Aims for Big Sam are to bring back Sir Bobby Robson 3rd, 4th, 5th finishes and get European football consistently.

  18. Bollocks to begging him to stay, anyone who has played as little as he has over the past 2 years and is paid over £100k a week should fuck right off if they need begging to stay!

There is a big difference between begging and showing your desire in your press conference to keep your World Class player.

His desire to defend his "Ugly football" tag was obvious.

I hope thats not a on going theme.

  19. Berbatov won't be sold for a while.  Spurs reported £20+m profit for the last 6 months, it'll probably be around £35m for the year.  If it doesn't get spent beofre the end of the tax year, the taxman will be taking a big chunk out of that.  That's why Spurs are looking to sort out some the bigger deals asap.  I think Spurs will be spending all, or very nearly all,  of that £35m this window.

Berbatov staying is not dependent on the good Spurs financial position but whether the player makes himself the move to Man United just like Carrick did last Summer.

However the positive is his Agents seems decent and has said positive things regards to giving back to the Spurs fans which is encouraging for your Club also the fact supposedly bigger clubs came in late when you tried to buy him and Berbatov and his agent stuck to there word of joining Spurs.

That situation could prove key to Michael Owen future here as only the Big 4 can buy either Owen or Berbatov hopefully for us the over hype of Berbatov this year gets him a move to one of the Big 4 rather then Michael Owen.

  20. The fears of Sam Allardyce lack of big club experience could well already be showing.

    :-[

Unbelievable. Give the bloke a chance.

  21. Big Sam won't beg Michael Owen to Stay

SAM ALLARDYCE last night admitted he will not be begging Michael Owen to become a part of his Newcastle revolution.

Big Sam signed a three-year, £10million deal to become Toon boss — but has yet to talk to Owen about his commitment to the cause.

Allardyce met most of the Newcastle squad yesterday morning, including bad boys Obafemi Martins and Charles N’Zogbia.

But he failed to link up with England hitman Owen who was on a short break in Ireland.

Allardyce, 52, said: “One of the first things I’ll be doing is sitting down with Michael and having a little chat with him.

“I will be asking him does he want to stay with us or go?

“Obviously I would like him to stay because he has that rare commodity of being able to score goals. What I think Michael needs is more time to get on track for us and, hopefully, he will decide to take that time.

“But it’s not all about Michael Owen. He is a big player and I will be speaking with him, as I will be with everyone else.

“The problem seems to have cleared up and if he is back playing that can only benefit Newcastle.”

Owen, 27, has made only 14 appearances in two seasons. He has a £9m release clause in his contract which has been activated following Toon’s failure to qualify for Europe.

    Manchester United have been alerted.

N’Zogbia refused to sit on the bench at Watford on Sunday and left the ground before the start.

And Martins claimed he was injured on Saturday despite showing no signs of any problem during the week.

Allardyce, who replaces Glenn Roeder as manager, added: “Until I get the chance to speak to Michael I don’t know what he is thinking.

“You wouldn’t want to lose your leading goalscorers, though.

“I am sure if they start working with me they will start enjoying what they do.”

Chairman Freddy Shepherd said: “Michael’s under contract until something else happens and I hope he stays. The ball’s in his court.”

Allardyce has been handed a war-chest of around £20m. He added: “There’s no reason Newcastle shouldn’t be able to challenge some of those top four.”

Its only day one and already Sam Allardyce looks defeated in losing our clubs Star player in Michael Owen.

Comments such as "i will be asking him does he want to stay or go?" are simply not good enough this is Big Sam chance at a Big Club with Big players he has to prove he can keep the likes of Michael Owen and build a team around him much like previous managers could with previous Top players in Alan Shearer by building teams around him.

When Sir Bobby Robson was appointed he knew if we were to hit High league places of 3rd, 4th, 5th that building a team around its best player in Alan Shearer was vital and its the same with Sam Allardyce and Michael Owen.

Sam Allardyce main priority when talking in his press conference yesterday SHOULD of been his desire to build a team around Michael Owen and his desire to KEEP him not spending all his passion in defending his long ball history at Bolton.

The fears of Sam Allardyce lack of big club experience could well already be showing.
