I think this is the genuine kit fwiw.

So, either the mock-up pics which the Chinese factories copied were significantly wrong - in that the Sela logo is white font with black surround rather than the other way around - or there's a significant design difference between the kids and adult shirt.

Really don’t think we need a LB. FFP no issue, sure, but we have 5 players on the books currently who can play LB. Literally a position of most depth. Even if Targett goes, it’s 4.

Bizarre take. None of them are good enough.

Does anyone know what the club or other clubs have in the way of ultra modern diagnostic equipment in their medical departments?

Or do they have like a basic-ish suite of gear and then refer players to a hospital when they need more advanced stuff?

Told by a very highly regarded physio local to the North East, who presents to health conferences worldwide on the use of cutting-edge injury diagnostic and rehab equipment, that he has offered use and advice re such equipment to rhe club several times. He's even offered to work for free to gather content for his PhD studies. But the response has always been negative - on the basis that the players are "used to" the kit already used by the club, mainly because it's relatively light-duty equipment which makes their injuries feel temporarily better - and "doesn't hurt".

And what the players want, they get...

im being a little mischievous here, and I’m only quoting you NWM for the wording, not directing this to you.

and for the record I do not believe Eddie is bang average.

but… there is a fair bit of comment on how the players who got us to 4th last season are not good enough to take us forward and need to be sold. Reverting to type as above and last season was a move from the norm.

so why can’t the same be true for Eddie and what we are now seeing is the real Eddie, with the first 18 months being exceptional?

fwiw I said early in his tenure that I thought Eddie would win us a cup but wouldn’t get is the league. I stand by this. He’s done a phenomenal job to get us here, and I’ve a sneaky feeling that we’re going to get a nice draw this evening and will get to the final of the FA cup. I then have doubts on whether he has enough left to be the one who takes us forward again. Sometimes people just have a useful shelf life and ultimately lay the groundwork for the next person to benefit

So Howe NOT winning us the league is some sort of measure of his failings? Utter nonsense. We can't win the league, end of. Not while FFP maintains the established order of the Premier League.

  5. People saying he is more physical than Miley is barmy. Was absolutely spent in the last 10 minutes of the 90 and in extra-time (he only needed to stand up to put that sitter away), and just flopped over yet again whenever touched. Painful to watch.

Love to know what the AI thinks about our injuries

And yet, incredibly, a half-switched on football fan can identify good players and bad ones.  For all of the waffle and data crunching around it all, most teams tend to sign players that all of us have heard of.

That's exactly the point. Brighton have led the way in using "waffle and data" - and now AI - to identify players that other clubs don't . . . and made £160m on Caicedo and Cucurella alone. Our record sale is still Andy Carroll...

I think it’s way more complicated.

I respectfully disagree. I see where you are coming from. I’ve worked in this field for 7 years now. It’s way deeper than any of us will ever know.

All I can say is that these people are experts in risk/reward assessment.

I had a contract with a large sports betting company. We don’t leave any leaf unturned and the budget is very very large.

There was an NBA game we worked and I was in a zoom call with a doctor, a sports trainer and a psychologist (amongst other sports data folks) they were discussing how an injury/being overweight would effect a certain player. Literally pulling up his movements and speculating on how he walks. Which angle his tendons are attached to his bones. Things I can’t even comprehend. They even brought up his social media and speculation about his personal life.

    This player is Zion Williamson.

I say all that just to give you an idea of how deep these people get into things. Down to travel time, change of time zones, etc etc.

Ive been in another call where there was a very serious discussion about elevation. The Utah jazz and the Denver nuggets having an advantage over other teams by being acclimated to high altitude.

As someone who manages odds, I want to let you know (based on my tiny knowledge and experience).. you have no clue how deep sports data and analytics goes.

These people are playing chess and everyone else is playing checkers

    Absolutely bang on.

I know a few people who are involved in football data development, and Brighton was the first UK club to use AI-driven software which map every physical movement performed by every player in every half-decent league in the world to not only offer a picture of how good that player is now, but predict how they are going to perform in future (e.g. have they peaked? Will the way they move result in significant injury risks further down the line?).

Crucially for Brighton's business model, it's not only informed their decision on who and when to buy, but who and when to sell. For example, they were offering Tariq Lamptey around the Premier League a couple of years ago just as he was making his first big impact in the team - because their data told them his style of play would cause persistent injury problems and he had already hit his maximum cash value. Unlike with the likes of Cucurella and Caicedo, they didn't manage to offload Lamptey.

    Why?

He’s been bang average since halfway through his Chelsea spell.

He always saves his best game or performance for games against us and everyone keeps saying we missed out on him. No, if we had Joelinton available yesterday, he would have been shown up for what he is, average at best.

Rubbish. He's been consistently excellent for months.

I had the exact same experience when watching the cup final last February, but I watched it in The Clock. I was surrounded by lads who you just knew were part of the old school, singing all of our traditional songs at the top of their voices. It was pretty depressing knowing that our end should have been filled with these lads, rather than them having no choice but to watch it in a bar. Our old hardcore are now watching NUFC matches in front of a TV screen and that is a serious problem.

The reaction of the fans they zoomed in on after Isak's penalty was so depressing. Maybe don't expect full-on limbs these days when you score a penalty in added time with the win already nailed on, but at least some fist pumps. The lads on camera looked they were at the f*cking theatre.                                            I've read some on Twitter saying we shouldn't shaming fans who don't sing away from home. For me, that's utter bollocks. The sole purpose of away fans is to lend enough vocal support to reduce the opposition's home advantage. And to get mortal, obviously.

Good to see massive Sunderland fan and former ALS contributor Jonathan Wilson getting the column inches in for some completely unbiased commentary there

Off the map - even accounting for Wilson's loyalties - to compare the way City fans regarded Mark Hughes and the level of respect Howe has earned from us. Beyond ludicrous.

Prime Tiote was much better than Bruno, as was Batty who was massively underrated. No fucking way would relegation threatened Luton and Forest run through the centre of our midfield with them playing.

We will know the answer in the next 12 months or so. If Bruno moves to Barcelona or whoever and kicks on then I'm wrong. If he doesn't then....

Prime Tiote much better? Dear me. Bedwetting on here is out of hand.

Hard to see him not getting our player of the season award as things stand. Still raw but he's taking a lot of responsibility on and becoming totemic for us.

This Botman boy might have a shout. The young lad Trippier also looks a prospect.

I mean he may not be my cup of tea, but calling him a "thick fucking cunt" is shit form. If you don't like him, that's fine, but no need to be needlessly mean.

He is a thick fucking cunt, and he's doing us all a disservice with his shit.

Aye fair enough the comparison to other crowds, I do enjoy Leeds going ballistic when they score I must say. Only get to a handful of home games but always have a good look around at the crowd when I do, and there are way too  many statues for my liking, and that includes young lads who just sit there in silence. If it's the Ashley effect that's numbed the fuck out of people then surely that's more reason to get excited/emotional at what we're witnessing now. I'll definitely be up for a standing ticket next season, even though the knees are creaking a bit

Leeds don't go ballistic. THIS is going ballistic. Watch until the end...

He's let the occasion get to him, i was feeling sick just thinking about the game in the last few days so imagine what a local lad his age must've been thinking, hopefully he will continue to be a squad player and gets to lift something for us.

Bollocks did he let the occasion get to him. He was up against Casemiro, Fernandes and a lad who starts ahead of Bruno for Brazil. He did fine.

Unless you are suggesting that Period One people should not have got tickets, I'm not really sure what your point is here. I don't care if members jumped on the bandwagon or not. I would guess that some did and some did not. Those that gave up tickets because of Ashley...I applaud their actions, but then they got them back now we're owned by the Saudi state, so I'm not quite ready to give them an unopposed moral platform just yet.

All of which doesn't really matter. The point is that nobody without a season ticket should have got tickets ahead of season ticket holders. Newcastle have roughly thirty thousand tickets and thirty thousand season ticket holders. In the entire history of cup final allocations across the entire country, I don't think that this has ever been a remotely controversial stance.

And you include the Ashley 10k ST freebie mob in that, yes?

  18. 7 minutes ago, Danh1 said:

Aye I don’t blame you for feeling annoyed. As I said, I also gave mine up and in hindsight I’m gutted I did, but I knew the risks.

I’ve seen some horrendous takes on Twitter. People are hurting that they missed out when they thought because they have a season ticket they would be certain to get a cup final ticket and they’re taking it out on people who don’t deserve to be mocked or be looked down on.

Hopefully the period of anger is over soon and people accept that they didn’t get a ticket and start looking forward to the game.

Yep, agreed. It hurts (and I'm far more disappointed for my sons than me), but we're still in the final.
