What do we think the budget is? In my mind, and based on absolutely nothing, I’ve imagined us dropping around £120m. About £80m plus £40m from sales. As I say I’ve just plucked those figures out of my arse.

Yeah I'm with you. Something around that mark.

I definitely feel that we might be a bit braver with regards to taking risk. Things like loans with obligations.

We can have a long term transfer strategy whilst also being a bit cute.

Could we loan a decent number 2 keeper for example? Would save the club forking out in this window.

I really don't like how this end of the season/start of the summer is developing.

    • First the Ashforth saga The Saga being that hes a judas cunt? Not our fault.
    • Bruno's release clause is being made public with teams circling around  Its not us making it public and besides, without the release clause theres no new contract, no new contract means he goes for way less
    • Then missing out on European football because of the scums FA Cup win Again, not our fault.
    • Missing out on Adarabioyo who we seemed to had a free pass on If you were DoF, you would have given him what he wanted? Quick way to turn into shitshow.

Feel good factor for the summer gone. Only if you spend every day refreshing twitter or believing everything you read.

What fee do you reckon we’ll get for Targett then lads? What’s the market like for 28 year old left backs who can’t stay fit and are, at their very best, average Premier League players?

He's been injured. Now hes just injury prone?

He's not average, he's good. If you are trying to get a foothold in this league, he's a good player.

He'd be worth every bit of 5m, provided he can prove his fitness.

Nobody is paying a fee for Targett. Best case scenario we give him away, but more likely he goes out on loan and we will have to subsidize half his wage.

Why is noone paying a fee?

I'd rather keep him as a sub than loan him out.

  5. It shouldn't be underestimated what impact losing Dummett, Hendrick, Richie and Karius from our wage bill can have on our summer window.

If we lose another 3, we could end up with 500k a week wriggle room from our wage bill and that doesn't take into account the extra we may have been prepared to pay to begin with.

In fact, it's possible that Kelly/Tosin deals will move off the back of us releasing these players.

Didn’t they spend £15m on him? Why would they now sell at a loss a season later? Unless he kicks up a fuss and demands a move. I can’t see it. Well, if he's had such a poor season, being dropped from the team his value can't have gone up. Burnley are likely to cash in, given their circumstance. We signed Pope for 12m, the same price would be fair IMO.

What other U21 keeper options do we have? Are we not a bit lacking in that department at all levels bar Pickford? Hence why Trafford got a call up as about 5th choice. Despite being nowhere near ready. Not that he would have played, mind. Just not sure what relevance him playing at U21 level has. Plenty of average players who get stick have played for England at junior and senior levels.

Hes the U21 national keeper for a country that is producing lots of good young players. There cant be any better U21 keepers knocking about, otherwise they would be playing ahead of him. Is it possible that weve got a lack of good goalkeepers at that age group? Perhaps but neither of us know that.

As for points 1 and 2. I don’t think he is good enough to be a backup for us currently.  Never mind compete with Pope. Especially not at what he would cost.

Hence my comment about not wanting him anywhere near the club. What would you do for a goalkeeper? There's no right or wrong answer, we need a keeper and the better keeper we go for the more it will cost and the more it impacts other transfers.

Ive seen a few people adamant that we should sign Marmadashvilli for 25m+, I do wonder how many people have seen him play and I do wonder whether it's a transfer we need to do. I will back the club whatever decision they make.

So weird to have the opinion a keeper looks nowhere near good enough for us right now?

I thought he looked terrible every time I saw Burnley or their highlights. Not sure why we would spend what I would guess would be quite a substantial fee. On someone who is nowhere near the level we are after, might never be, but won’t be for a good few years regardless.

Keep hearing we are restricted by FFP. Yet we keep getting linked with goalkeepers that are not worth it as a backup, not better than Pope or would cost a bomb.

Either get a genuinely decent number 2 that wouldn’t cost the earth or go and get a marquee signing to replace Pope. Trafford is neither of these and I don’t think we can risk another Hall or Livramento, for the future type signings for decent money.

I've watched football for 30 years now, since I went to my first game, I've not once seen a 21 year old keeper look ready to be a number 1.  My point is that people have made their judgement on a 21 year old and basically labelled him shite and that's that.

Personally, I'd ask serious questions of Vincent Kompany for playing such a naive brand of football, leading to conceding so many chances and exposing a 21 year old goalkeeper.

Burnley switched to Muric, who despite what people say, wasn't a good keeper, he made two of the worst howlers you are ever likely to see.

Moreover, obviously someone somewhere rates Trafford, after all he's the U21s England keeper and given the standard of player we are now producing, that's not to be sniffed at. He also came through at City, again, someone rates him.

Then there's the point about needing to spend money on a keeper. We've got two choices:

    1. Sign a cheap backup in the mould of a Fraser Forster and hope Pope stays fit.

    2. Sign a quality goalkeeper to compete with Pope, whether number 1 or number 2. This costs.

We can spend 10m or so on Trafford, 20m or so on Ramsdale or 30m or so Marmadashvilli. The quality goes up with the price, but so does our FFP restriction.
