It's a debate abou Something to do with Bobby? It's a debate over the state of the club, it's on .com Thing that strikes me odd is that was this going to be a totally negative thing (ie no news on the sale etc), it's going to be very anti Mike Ashley and Llambsarse, so would they allow such a thing to take place. I think we need a clutching at straws smiley
-
Maybe Mike Ashley's thinking about making a film about it: Goal 4 - Fucking the dream (Big Style)
-
Could be something in it, we've also never had the daily "no news on the takeover" story in the Chronicle either
-
Think we need a title change to reflect the fact there is no press conference

I tend to think this guy is genuine, but I understand people's cynicism. It's like the boy who cried wolf. We've spent the whole summer living on a diet of lies, half truths and rumours, to be sitting here 5 days before the start of the season with no Manager, less players and a handful of contradictory quotes from the powers that be within SJP. It would have probably made the summer more bearable if Llambarse had been more open and honest about what's going on. Chances are the latest round of quotes about the takeover being close are nearer the truth than the £100m+ bids etc, but because "we've heard it all before" we want to believe but can't. Fact is, things do appear to be happening, players leaving etc, and I think it was Alan Smith's agent a few weeks back that mentioned the "Transfer Embargo", and that players would not be sold until the ownership situation had been sorted out. The fact that bids are starting to be accepted suggests that something is happening. There was also mention that Seymour Pierce had advised the club to sell players (Martins being one of those) in order to pave the way for the sale to go ahead. Whether it's announced tomorrow, later in the week or not at all, money is Ashley's god, and if it does come to the point where he's advised no one will buy the club, he has to protect his investment. If he did do nothing it would basically mean that he was quite happy to lose pretty much the entirety of his investment as League 1 or Championship strugglers would beckon. He'd be lucky to walk away with the stock from the club shop if that happened.

I think if it's going to be an annual event you would have to limit the teams to 4 but rotate them year on year. Other clubs have annual tournaments (Amsterdam trophy etc), so there's no reason why we can't host one. I just think if all teams were involved each year it would go a bit stale after the first couple. The fact that SBR passed away in a period that is pretty much pre-season for all of the clubs he has been associated with also means that this tournament can mark the anniversary of his death year on year.

In all fairness, given the money most of them earn, surely a contribution towards flying to away games wouldn't be so bad. At the end of the day it's not as though they've taken pay cuts as a result of relegation. Call it a "relegation tax"!!!

There's an article in today's Chronicle discussing options for a lasting memorial to SBR. Things being mooted are a statue and renaming one of the stands. I know there's already a thread about the first game, but what do people think we should do to honour SBR in a manner he would have appreciated. He wasn't a vain person so I think the naming of a stand should be ruled out. It also mentions that Shepherd is prepared to pay for the statue should the club not be able to. Personally, an annual tournament/ one off game involving sides SBR was associated with would be the most appropriate. He lived for football, and playing in his name each year would certainly be the best way to remember him. There's also mention of a memorial service, possibly at Durham Cathedral. Perhaps the club should organise something at SJP so fans not just from here but all around the world can come and pay homage to the man one last time.

I bet it contains the words Ashley and Wanker -
Kept empty for ever. Black and white scarf and nowt else. This

As he lived for football, a continuation of the SBR Trophy where we invite one of his former clubs to play us each year in his memory, with gate receipts paid to the charity.
-
If we stay in the Championship, shirt sponsorship would be worth very little and the positive publicity we'd get from this would far outweigh the financial benefits of having greggs on the front of our shirts. Could actually prove to be a clever ploy from the club as they'd possibly sell more shirts to neutrals. Could even donate a small amount from the sale of each shirt to the charity. In fact were they to use the idea of having the SBR foundation on the front of our shirts for the first couple of games (SBR was an ex WBA player too), why not sell a limited edition of this year's shirt with just that on the front, with all proceeds going to his charity. There could also be a revamp of the Geordie Jackpot with some money being paid to the charity from the proceeds.
-
For the first game, a minute's silence followed by those 3 tenors doing Nessun Dorma from the charity game, it was really moving and I think it would also be recognition of his contribution to the England team as well
-
It wouldn't involve our first game, but when we play Ipswich it would be fantastic if both teams had the SBR Foundation on their shirts. His 2 great club successes in the English game, plus it's live on TV
-
This, much more fitting than naming a stand after him
-
i wonder if the current regime will have the dignity to say something? maybe make a donation to his fund? or will they continue to be invisible and spineless? The only thing the current regime should do is ensure they leave with more haste, so as not to further damage the Football Club this great man held so close to his heart. This will be fitting tribute enough
-
Are you comparing Newcastle United to a television channel? Given the "entertainment" we've given over the last couple of years, we'd probably be more successful than we are at football
-
There's a guy posted something on nufc blog about this, reckons he is the director of a company that has dealings in the UAE, and that the guy is definitely real, however has been unable to find out whether or not the bid is. If the guy is for real and unknown it would be a little bit random to have no truth in it surely? It's not exactly the first name you'd pull out at random. Whether it's true or not I'm sure we'll hear something in the next few days. Llambias can't go on forever spouting shit about who when the takeover is going to happen. It's not particularly professional and I presume he will still need a job when this is all over and done with, surely he won't risk his reputation (and apparently he had a good one before he came here)

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2562640/Ghost-Toon.html More bollocks from the currant bun, some dubai bloke wanting Keegan as he has more "global appeal" than Shearer.Surely the compo claim would be a bit of a sticking point.

If the Chronicle are now going to keep the pressure on Ashley until something happens, perhaps they could try and pull together a consortium of local businesses/businessmen prepared to invest in the club. I'm not saying it should be lead by them, but it would only take one or two of the more wealthy folk (Duke of Northumberland, Graeme Wylie) to pledge support should enough people come forward for it to get taken seriously. I know it's a tad ambitious, but even if they pledged to oversee the club until they were promoted, I'm sure there would be plenty of takers who could then take the club to the next level, giving them some profit on their investment.
