  1. A lot is made, in media circles, about the fact that we haven't won anything for 50+ years but, I guess the fans' expectations at Newcastle coupled with our very successful history is to blame for that.

Look at Aston Villa, they have almost as big a gap between their last trophy as we have had (even without the mini European success we had with the Fairs and Texaco trophies in the 70's) but, they are not being lambasted for it season after season.

I would love to see us win something but, I fear I will have to be satisfied with our mid 90's mini successes in coming 2nd a couple of times and the FA Cup semi finals, the Charity Shield defeat in Shearers first season, the Cardiff appearences.  All those nearly's have distroyed my optimism I am afraid.

Villa did win the big one in 1982, and some league cups since - guess that's why they aren't lambasted like we are.  Hope we can get some trophy or other soon tough!

  2. I'd take him now.  Or do we get an experienced foreign manager like Ramos  ?  Shearer knows everything about the premiership, knows the club, knows the city and I think he'd do well.

On the same note, wouldn't be better off telling Mourinho to do one, and giving Beardsley the job?

my point was more around looking at what spurs have done with Gross and Ramos and realising that foreign doesn't always mean better.

  3. in my view, there's no person I could want more to manage the club.  There's a reason why we're sentimental about him - because he made us into an amazing team.  The often cited criticism of his teams not having any defence are not backed up at all by the stats.  If you look at soccerbase for the season we nearly won the premiership, our defensive record is fantastic.  The important thing is the summer and letting Keegan have free reign with the singings he wants - the young players that are being brought in is positive, but we also need established players who can make next season a one to remember.  Love the guy.
