  1. How is this controversial? Why should or would they expect Newcastle to pay for testing for a match their ground?

If they were coming up here then it would be fair enough to expect Newcastle to pay.

If they can't afford it then maybe they should forfeit...

However that would deprive them of seeing their team passing and bossing a premier League team off the park

 Fuck the poor, we're alright and that's all that matters.

This is nothing to do with fuck the poor. This is about being able to competently host a match. Think Man City will be paying ours when we go there? Same kind of wealth difference.

Surely they carry them out for normal league matches?

I would have thought each team should be responsible for their own testing regardless of opposition?

Yes it would be a nice goodwill gesture, but this club isn't exactly renowned for that

And what if - like Orient this week - half the Morecambe team turn out to be infected? EFL clubs don't test their players regularly as they cant afford it. We are taking a massive risk here for the sake of a few thousand pounds. Image if the whole team have to quarantine for two weeks, would cause havoc to our schedule

Well that's my ignorance I'll freely admit. I'd assumed that all league teams were routinely testing.

Simple solution should be if no test, then no match

Its shocking really that EFL clubs aren't testing but money really is tight. Read somewhere today about Spurs paying for Orient's tests and more than half came back positive. Orient played PLymouth at the weekend despite a few of their players not feeling well...

It should be the EFL covering the cost really, but for a club like NUFC to take such a risk over a few thousand pounds is just wrong

The main stream media are also starting to stick the boot in.

    From the Guardian:

Pardew needs to focus his energies on arresting slump

It is some time since Alan Pardew verbally abused an opposition manager or physically assaulted an opposition player but that shortest of fuses is undoubtedly still there. It could be seen in the way Pardew reacted in the immediate aftermath of Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on 6 March and by the fact he dedicated a large portion of his programme notes for Saturday’s visit of Leicester City to the contentious penalty which earned the Merseysiders all three points. Two weeks have passed and he still cannot let it go, with Jamie Carragher getting criticised for “stating Christian Benteke was right to go down”. “Would Carragher have had the same opinion if Wilf Zaha had gone down in the box in the 94th minute of a massive match at Anfield?” Pardew went on to ask. “I suspect not, but loyalties can blur opinion at times.” Carragher’s reaction on Twitter to those comments summed up the mood of many – “wow!” – and there is no escaping the sense that Palace’s poor form (Saturday’s 1-0 defeat makes it 13 league games without a win for the London side) is getting to their manager, which could also be seen in his sharp response to an innocuous question from a journalist at the weekend. Asked if the international break offers his players a welcome change from their difficult environment at club level, he snapped back: “There’s nothing wrong with our environment.” Pardew may well have a point regarding Liverpool’s penalty and being tough with journalists is certainly no crime (many would actively encourage it), but the 54-year-old would be better served focusing his energies on halting Palace’s continuing slide towards the bottom three. They looked woefully short of confidence and creativity against Leicester and the manager must rectify that before a daunting set of league fixtures, beginning with a visit to West Ham on 2 April. Pardew has often been criticised for lacking a plan when his teams are struggling. For Palace’s sake he needs to prove the doubters wrong and staying calm and focused will only help in that regard.

  4. some absolute gems from a palace forum

Our only tactic is to catch teams on the break which works really well against the attacking teams but we struggle against the teams fighting for just 1 point.

Pards needs to find another way we can break down teams to avoid dropping 3 point results down the drain.

One thing we always seem to do is play a solid 4-2-3-1 formation with 2 defensive midfielders.

We certainly need that plan b
  5. GFN: Marseille have announced an agreement in principle to sign Metz's winger Bouna Sarr.

    Thauvin to leave?

    nah their replacement for Ayew/Payet

    4) Newsflash: Newcastle’s fans deserve a break

Unless the penny finally drops, and Steve Bruce realises he is not employed to get results for Manchester United any more, Hull City will be going down. Newcastle could still find themselves relegated instead, of course, and almost certainly deserve it after a dismal run of form which bears repeating: nine losses in their past 10 games, 18 in their past 24. But they’ll probably get away with it, just, no thanks to John ‘Walk out the Door’ Carver and his risible channelling of David Brent and Gloria Gaynor. The Toon might even register only their third win of the calendar year against West Ham, who have been abject themselves since suffering a dreadful thrashing in the FA Cup at West Brom in February. But whatever Newcastle’s fate, let’s hope the post-season debrief spares their fans any more of the I-told-you-so revisionism regarding the Alan Pardew era. Partly because Pardew’s Newcastle were past masters at embarking on dismal runs themselves. But mainly because it wasn’t just about results, or the quality of the football. Toon fans, contrary to the tired old stereotype, don’t ask for much as paying customers, but they would like a manager they respect, and can relate to. For various reasons, Pardew was never that manager, and subsequent events at Newcastle and Crystal Palace are in this context neither here nor there. Newcastle’s fans have suffered enough this season; they don’t need it ended with a sanctimonious lecture.

Who wrote that? He's got it absolutely spot on like, fair play to him.

the initials were "SM", just cant work out who that is!

  8. Interview with Daryl Janmaat here (in Dutch): http://www.omroepwest.nl/sport/04-05-2015/hagenaar-daryl-janmaat-over-zijn-overgang-naar-newcastle-%E2%80%98toen-ik-hier-aankwam-dach

It's not very flattering for Newcastle. I'll translate the quotes in the accompanying text:

"When I first arrived here I thought to myself: 'What the hell am I doing here?' Everything was so dreary/drab.

I live 20 minutes from the stadium in a nice, quiet area. I'm used to it now, and can even enjoy it somewhat."

The video (I haven't watched it) is a former Dutch soap "star" interviewing him. Funnily enough I worked with the lad's father 15 years ago. Small world.

where did he live before coming here, Rotterdam?! cheeky fucker!

  9. Great news, he's a f***ing liability and has been for a while.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, we are running out of players

the worrying thing is that Tiote is our most credible option for centre-half when Colo or Williamson get the inevitable suspension/injury

  10. "That maybe was because they didn’t understand what I was trying to do."

    Ain't that f***ing truth.

he can fuck right off with this condescending bollocks. Aye, us thick fans are too stupid to see the brilliance of his substitutions. well done, John, You're a tactical genius.

  11. There's one guy in that thread complaining about how badly we treated Shola

edit: had to go back to find that quote just cos it was so ridiculous

"Deluded bunch, they really are. The way they treated Bobby Robson and Shola Ameobi sums them up."
