Guest Rushian
Rome is probably the most dangerous place I've been following the Reds. A sense of menace for two full days. Last time I was there our coaches to the stadium from the designated "safe area" were delayed by two hours as there was a full scale riot at the stadium and a host of police vehicles had been torched by Roma fans. And that was before our buses in the police escort were bricked inas we sped through a wooded area a mile or two from the stadium. When we've had fans stabbed out there recently (16 in early 01, 4 in late 01) it's not been fans who've gone looking for it, but novices/overseas Reds who've bee naive e.g in Feb 01 at least half those stabbed were Swedish Reds who had arrived in taxis at the infamous bridge wearing their colours. Back in 1984 after beating Roma in the final on their home ground over 400 Liverpool fans were injured post the final after we beat them on their own ground. Many of the coaches outside disappeared after their drivers were threatened leaving our fans to huddle together for protection to avoid the missiles raining down from either side as the police either watched or joined in. Young, old, male, female, it didn't matter. Some fans had to climb the British Embassy fence despite being threatened by guards to escape the baying mob.
