I don't really understand all the hatred for Brown and O'Shea.

Yes, Brown has been on the wind down now for about two years but he's still a decent player. He's a little error prone in centre back but the year we won the CL he was impeccable at right back, which is where I think he should play. A decent, experienced player for £1million? I don't see how that's a bad deal at all. He'd still be with us only the twins are so good at full back and centre back is stacked.

O'Shea is a very good signing IMO. The most versatile player in the league who's under-rated going forward (Newcastle fans should remember him at full back). I think O'Shea has four good years in him yet and again very experienced. Played over 30 times for us last year.

As for wages Brown was on £40k a week with us and I'm pretty sure he'll take a big cut moving to Sunderland. Not sure on O'Shea's wages but they won't be on anything silly.

Just my opinion.

Every time I've seen Brown in recent seasons he's been either average or terrible. I can't imagine what he'll be like in Sunderland's team in 2-3 years time.

O'Shea I agree will be a good signing, and in the short-term probably their best of the summer. I don't think he'll be completely outstanding though, they haven't bought Rio or Vidic.

I think it's hard for a player to come in every ten or so games and have an outstanding game as well. He fell behind Rafael, Fabio and Smalling last season and was restricted to cup games or coming on when there was an injury crisis. The last few seasons Brown has barely played. I think if he's playing 30 games a season he'll be solid.

i think he fell behind those, played so few games and is getting shifted out for a reason.

Disagree, but then we'll see.

What were your opinions on Nicky Butt and Alan Smith when they left?

They're the case study for why I believe O'Shea & Brown will be massive failures.

I didn't care that Nicky Butt left and was disappointed to see Smith leave. I believe Smiths downfall was because of that injury against Liverpool. He was a good player for us.

They are top players. The twins would get on for any team in the league IMO and Smalling got a chance and played absolutely outstanding and proceeded to play well with every chance he got.

There's a difference falling behind in the pecking order because people are playing so well and falling behind because you are shit.

The fact that they all play for Man Utd is a pretty tenuous reason to believe they'll fail, isn't it?

Not in my opinion, no. They're mediocre players who have been held up by the most decorated managed in the league, the most settled team in the league and some of the best players in the league. They're all filler (no killer).

When Fergie lets players go cheap at this stage of their career they're generally turning shit.

On top of Butt, Smith etc there is Mikael Silvestre, Roy Keane, Dwight Yorke etc

It's not just Manchester United either. Chelsea have fucked off Joe Cole, Geremi, Duff who always seem like sound signings on the face of it but more often than not turn out to be shit. Rarely are these kind of signings anything more than half-decent over a short period of time.

Silvestre was shocking and at fault for so many goals. He also had a stupid temper streak and was an idiot.

Yorke moved to Blackburn and scored more goals in his first season than he did in his last two when he was with us. He had two more good seasons as far as I remember so I think for £2million he wasn't a bad signing.

Ferguson didn't want to let Keane go either. He was injured and went on MUTV and started laying in to his fellow club members and was constantly rowing with Ferguson over the clubs set up of training and things of the like. His contract was ended by mutual consent but it was Keane who wanted to leave.

Nicky Butt you are 100% correct with. What were you paying him a week? Decky was telling me he was your highest earner at one stage or something.

wearside has got himself a new nick by the look of things.

Isn't wearside the biased Mackem who tries to put down NUFC at every opportunity?

Think it's slightly different giving an opinion on players I know a hell of a lot about.

@YoungGunsBlog

"Plenty of speculation on Juan Mata, but his €25m release clause only applies to Spanish clubs, as I understand it."

Don't understand that...

Must mean Salcido is definitely off to Mexico then.

I've liked Salcido when watching him in internationals.  Always thought he'd be ok after adapting to the English game

Same, good solid player imo and he'd be much better for Arsenal than Gibbs but I think we could aim a little higher but very good player.

Fowler's left Australia for family reasons. You'd think maybe Tranmere, or some other lower league club in the North West? Naaaah, some team in Thailand.

Maybe wrong, but I'm guessing after Man U and Liverpool that once Leicester sign Mills they'll have the third biggest net spend that everyone goes on about?
