i recall having a silver plastic medal in my coin collection.  had texaco on it, and some english footballer, or was that just a seperate petrol promotion?

as i was 3 years old back when nufc won this, i dont recall any of this )

why was this cup phased out?

My dad - an Airdrie fan. who took part in it a few times.

apparently it was a big deal for the scottish clubs but the english clubs tented to play weakend sides.

it was the first sponsored tournament to include both scottish and english sides.

im only 25 so too young to know much about it but my dad went to a few of the games

hmm i was looking at who took part......

it seems ireland and NI dropped out after 72.

if you think about the history, it was probably political reasons.  :(

yeh i was suprised when i went on that link that ireland and n.ireland were both in, thought it wouldve just been british nations

to be honest ive always said to spice up the league cup the scottish and english versionso of it should merge into one, just like the royal league in scandinavia
