Consortium of one

Surely they can't change the test half way through. It does worry me a little bit that clubs might be going up for sale because we all know the Saudi's pass that test.

was thinking about this.  PIF/PCP should offer to buy Man U and when the PL pushes through the ODT they then change their mind and then say "Nah, we want Newcastle!"

They didn’t need to. Besides, Mike won’t put out any statement that has any long term implications while he’s still engaged in trying to sell the club to the consortium.

tbh ashley might have struggled at who to be annoyed at more, sure he's currently got a grudge against masters and the premier league but the sinister sixs plan could have affected any future sale price so they ain't any good either

Stolen from elsewhere.

Its amazing how much they've fucked themselves by doing this, not only have they made themselves look like contemptuous corrupt pricks, they've likely made the case for massive reform in football, and even if that doesnt happen they've lost all there leverage of the threat of a breakaway and a potential super league.

The absolute shade thrown at all of the US

 Let’s be mindful of glass houses, Graham.

I wonder if they will still receive any punishments for trying it? I mean, they 'should', but will the FA, Prem, UEFA, etc just let them off because they've backed out of it?

and everyone would break down laughing if ashley tried to claim competition and competing in football is something he values and must be protected

Wonder if it will take years to sell it ?

Would be typical if the Saudi PIF fund went in for it.

They’d still have to pass the ODT and if it was waved through I’d bet Ashley would issue legal proceedings against the PL.

If Arsenal suddenly go up for sale after this, does that make them a much more attractive prospect than us? A London club, better squad, better setup... hmmm

Unbelievable

The pace at which it's unfolding makes me wonder if the PL and La Liga have threatened their "founding" clubs that decision making was already in progress for them to be booted out of their respective leagues. Such an amazing volte face can only be the result of a realistic chance of armmagedon for those involved.

would bet more on potential sponsors and media partners they hoped to fleece for billions might have all been vanishing into the ether with the reaction to this
