They knew Gateshead would be right up for it. With the season ahead we have to have the same approach and not take any game for granted. Having said I’m not particularly worried. Just an assessment of where players are at, fitness, sharpness and ability to make decisions for our next game .

I know it’s a fitness based friendly for us. But having no actual striker is showing a lot. Often get space down the wings. But no one at all in the box. Hopefully Howe is doing this to show that.

Gateshead playing really tight here.

One of those games where we would've benefited from Shelvey pinging the ball long for Wood to get in behind.

Lewis is so bad ?

Thought he made some good runs and passes down the left. Like I say, overall we’re shite and need to be sharper and wake up.

Mind games, struggle against Gateshead, get rid of overpaid fringe players and replace. Alternatively it’s just a run out.

With six left backs starting today I am starting to think that Pardew managed has disposed of Howe and had a face swap done

Fear Howe will be gone before Christmas on this showing. Why on earth aren’t Bruno and Tonali starting?

Isak not even on the bench is a suicide note
