Thespence
DAVID BECKHAM has recruited a personal fitness coach to hone his physical conditioning to perfection. The England star wants to arrive at LA Galaxy in July in peak form. He will work this summer with Paul Winsper, the former Newcastle United conditioning coach. Becks is so single-minded about his form and fitness that he has cut short a three-week family break between leaving Real Madrid next weekend and moving to Los Angeles. The 32-year-old midfielder will now take a one week holiday and then spend a fortnight working with fitness guru Winsper. Beckham, who has received backing for his plan from Galaxy coach Frank Yallop, hopes his conditioning campaign will help him retain his place in the England set-up for the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign - and beyond. Winsper, who left Newcastle last November after nine years, has been highly recommended by Alan Shearer and Michael Owen. Both spent lengthy spells with him as they fought to overcome career-threatening injuries. Initially Beckham has recruited Winsper for this summer but if their relationship blossoms the England star is considering taking the coach to California as part of his personal entourage. So Paul may end up working full time in sunny California, I am sure he will miss them windy days in Benton. Guest pistonism
I have a very strange feeling that Beckham will regret this choice.
