Haiti deserved a draw against England. They were far better in transition. I can’t see us doing much from that viewing though Haiti could be a bit of a surprise package.

The debate about pay should be pretty simple. You get paid in line with what you generate, a bit like a business eh.

I do think that more money should be put into girls grassroots football. I’d also support top ups from the men’s game to ensure that women players can become FT pros which hopefully boosts their game.

I just can’t get away with players demanding equal pay.

Literally 1 team has 'demanded' equal pay, amd its the USA women who just wanted the same as the men get.

Given they have won the last 2 World cups, are the favorites to win  this one, and have dominated women's football for years, they had a pretty good argument!

Assuming all players think they should get equal wages is just lazy and false

I think the only time the refs explanation is helpful, was on the first pella call which was disallowed, as it explained that it wasn't given due to a foul in the builld up, which many in the stadium may not have seen.

But aye, when its given, just pointing to the spot is clear enough, no need to announce they're giving it too.

But the pen that was given wouldn't have been obvious in the stadium. No way you would spot in Real time that it was handball, so it give that's context

Great to watch football again, although going to be some one-sided games in group matches. Hope our lasses win (obviously), but you have to look at USA, Spain, Germany and maybe the Aussies being the main obstacles in achieving that. Good luck to them anyway.

France could be a little sneaky outside bet too, but they usually always underperform when it comes to tournaments!

Anyone wanting to put some bets on the 11am kick off, Katie McCabe to get booked is almost certainly going happen, alongside Sam Kerr scoring! Odds will be rubbish though

  4. Yea there will definitely be some ridiculous scorelines in the group stages, but like you say, the alternative is don't let the rubbish teams play!

Even the opening games on paper should be very easy wins for Norway and Australia

This all starts early tomorrow morning with the first game in New Zealand. Not the best preparation though, as there has just been an active shooter situation in the city and at least a couple of people have been killed!

  5. Contracts tend to be very small, most likely only 1 year. Even in the WSL most players are on 1 year contracts, although that definitely seems to be changing. That's also why transfers fees are a fairly new thing in the women's game.

There is such a huge step up to the WSL even from the championship, so you don't want to be stuck with a load of players who aren't good enough, and no room in the squad for newer and better players

  6. That is huge!!

For context there are probably around 3 or 4 teams (don't quote me on that) that are professional in the 2nd tier, and we're in the 3rd tier!!

Only issue is when clubs do this, they'll often pay a salary of less than 20k, so players who are earning more than that in their current jobs can't really take the hit, and also can't commit to training full time!

Still it's a huge step forward and we should be able to attract a lot of talent to drop down a league to come and play for us!

Didn't realise it doesn't start until 20th July (and runs to 20th August).

Seems a bit late? I know women's football has to exist of its own accord but can't help but feel it would be better not to be on a bit earlier before pre-season and start of next season ramps up. I'm sure they're usually on June-July. Is this something to do with Oz sports venues being used?

I thought it was something to do with the weather, but don't know enough about Australian weather to know If a few weeks would make that much difference

  8. I don't think there has even been a deal signed to broadcast it in Europe yet! I'm sure BBC/ITV will come to some sort of agreement but at the moment, it's a standoff and there are only 50 days to go!

On the footballing side, I think injuries mean England will struggle to get past the quarters.

USA will be huge favourites as always, with Germany probably the strongest European side by some distance!

    Cheers. I ended up Googling

wasn’t as easy as you might think on Google maps strangely as info labelled wrong.

Anyway when I saw it was today there was no way I could go and get back in time for the Arsenal game.

Wish they could’ve thought that one through and had games played on the Saturday or Monday. Should have Gateshead playing Wembley the Saturday before the Chelsea game also. Such simple wins to encourage fans to attend you’d think. I appreciate its not that straightforward but I bet it was never a consideration.

They never take things like this into account, not even in the top league. Like you say it's such a simple thing to do to boost crowds!!
