Meh, I convinced myself he'd be good for us, but in all honesty he doesn't look like a £60m player to me. I know the market is crazy, but surely there is better value to be had elsewhere

Depth? Seriously?

Isn't that more than you get for winning the champions league?

Must be at least one keeper in there...

I think that's my point though, I'm not sure Pedro does offer cover for Isak. He's goal scoring record (non penalties) was what? 4 or 5?
I reckon Osula could that many, at least.
I think Eddie Howe believes he does though. We came close to signing him before we bought Isak. IMO the drop off from Isak to Osula is far greater than the drop.off from our midfield to Miley, Longstaff or Willock

If I had to choose between Pedro and Ederson (Atalanta) I think I'd go for Ederson. He easily covers 6 & 8. Not sure where Pedro plays other than as a 10 and we don't even use that in our formations. There's absolutely no way our 3 CMs are gonna play all those games next season. What Miley does or doesn't do is yet to be seen (high hopes, personally).
We need quality starters for CB, CM and RW primarily.
And if Isak picks up an injury? Who do you play? Osula? Gordon?

It's nothing new, but still nice to have an embedded tweet on this thread.

Harvey Elliott
Convince me otherwise
He's too small and weak. Looks good for the U21s but I've been underwhelmed by him in the PL. Plus he would cost north of £40m

@Froggy How was he seen as a player/prospect when he was at Man Utd?

Neither of them were considered average at the time. The point made was £40m is the going rate for an average player. I'm just wondering what that is being based on.
Kiernan Dewsbury Hall was £30m wasn't he? He seems as average as they come

For these reasons i agree Dibling at the price quoted isn’t the right purchase for NUFC this summer.
I agree, it's all dependent on cost. Front line options of Isak, Pedro, Gordon, Barnes, Murphy, Dibling and Osula looks pretty good to me though

We need a RW that would instantly improve our XI. Not someone who is very expensive, has little experience and may come good in few years.
Murphy is not good enough for top4 challenge. He is a good lad but we have to be realistic. RW has to be top player. We dont have time to wait and hope.
Even if that RW has the potential to be exceptional? I imagine the same argument was made for replacing Dan Burn with a first team ready left back - we bought one who was expensive and with little experience and he is now arguably the best English left back in the league.
If we buy someone with potential for the RW spot I will trust that the club have made the decision not just for next season but with the following season and those after that.

Dibling would be awful signing for us right now.
Why? We definitely need a new RW, but behind Salah and Mbeumo we had arguably the best performing right winger in the country. Whilst we cant rely on Murphy having another season like that I also don't think we can expect Eddie to drop Murphy as soon as we get a new player in that position. A young player with a very high ceiling who wont expect to start every game but already has the experience and ability to be able to play in the PL sounds pretty perfect to me, particularly if we are looking at Pedro too.

Saying there's no value in Europe when one of the best flips we've had in recent years being Minteh is...
Yeah, but we are looking for players to improve the first xi. Buying relatively cheap players with potential for the youth team/to loan out (such as kinteh and corduroy) is fine and I'm sure we will continue to do that, but people seem to want us to buy first team ready players for pennies. In order to improve on our current first xi we are going to have to spend big, whether it's domestically or from Europe.

You’d be joining the most successful English club this century, a club which finished above us despite having an ‘off’ season, will also pay a lot more than us and you get to live in London.
I can see other appeals to joining them.
Do they pay more than us these days? I thought the wages they were paying recently were much more in line with us

Is he setting us up for an exclusive where he says a deal is close, but it isn't actually close.
So we are either signing Pedro or some surprise target from Europe. Good way to hedge your bets I suppose

If the budget is limited, it would be crazy imo to allocate £30m of it for another goalkeeper. The squad urgently needs strengthened in other areas.
Surely Dubravka is going to be off to Saudi? I imagine the new contract included an understanding that he would be allowed to move but it would allow us to receive a fee for him

We're really scraping the barrel for examples if we're using Rashford. I don't see many teams going for him after his loan spell which says it all.
Best examples I can think of would be Cantona or Dennis Bergkamp who did well over here but that was where they didn't settle in another league or had problems.
Chris Wood?

When we were being linked with Delap, I remember one of the articles mentioned that Howe had told him the plan was to play them together in a different formation, which I was surprised by, and didn't know whether to believe it not.
Oddly enough we keep getting linked with strikers that would be looking to start.
Out of interest where did you read that about Pedro?
Going back to the way he set up at Bournemouth?

Jamie Vardy isn't looking so bad now, eh?

Hes not shown himself to be up for a fight so far but buananotti at leicester would be an interesting one at the right price. The dressing room was a mess by all accounts and hes a young guy.
There is something there, its how far it can develop
The only player from Leicester that I thought might be a good fit for us was El Khannouss - I was impressed every time I saw him play

Maresca looks like he's been painting his living room before the game

I'm OK with the name change if it means loads of extra money. When Ashley did it it was just free advertising for his tat. Everyone will always call it St James' Park anyway, until we move to a new ground
