It's a song about folk in the day going from Newcastle to attend a place in Gateshead. The fuckers used to sing Geordies in the 80s also

I think the song is about professional boat racing on the Tyne, and not horse racing. I maybe wrong, but apparently this was a huge thing with huge amount of prize money.

No, only 18 players on that list are being paid. Still there is a massive difference between PL wages and these. Not sure, what it implies, as if this is the true wage bill, they should have a fair bit of wriggle room for extra players considering their number of tickets and average home crowds. Must be a good time for their fans, championship, financial stability, large crowds, and the cherry on the cake of their rivals failures.

Didn't have a single solitary attribute that would be considered useful for a professional footballer. Some players kind of look the part, even if they're not. This bloke even looked rubbish.

Pingel is always the lowest base line. Those were dark dark days, when signing a player from Blyth was the highlight of the season.

Probably will come to regret saying this, but I struggle to see their league ever being anything more then a novelty. They're signing amazing players, but it's still a handful of players across a whole league. Buying top quality defenders will never seen as exciting so I can't see them doing that, so we may end up with world class attackers playing against part time defences.

Their clubs will still need to build the entire infrastructure and depth that most professional clubs have and this will take time, even with unlimited wealth behind them.

The whole thing with their league just feels soulless

I think the reason for such investment, is similar to what Qatar did with their league in the years running up to the World Cup bid. They bought ex- World Cup winners, and great players at the end of their careers solely to highlight the country. I spent two months there during this time, and 60 minutes into a game the sheik and his entourage would enter the mostly empty stadium, the foreign players would be subbed on. 15 minutes later with the score 3-0, the sheik would leave, the said players subbed. Job done. Rinse and repeat.

This was one of the steps they took to acquire the World Cup franchise. This appears to be the same model SA are following. The aim is not to compete at all, it is to sell their country and raise awareness. Appears to be going well so far.

It will not have a massive long term impact on other leagues. The premier league is just this, it is the world’s premier league, and it will remain so. Their clubs may do well in the Asian champions leagues, but this is all.

  5. This is the hardest choice we have had for many a year. There is a case for the difference that any of the players have made. Big Joe, has been immense, Bruno is a huge player, the deference has been superb, Almirante has at times been electric. For me, and the work that he does every game Willock has been outstanding, the one player Arsenal needed this year. He just gets better and better. Most improved must go to Murphy. But Howe has created one hell of a team.

Absolutely. I'd say Bruce managed to get a bit more out of those players in a bit better way as time went on, but then things started to go downhill for a variety of reasons.

After watching every Bruce game, I am absolutely certain that what you are referring to wasn’t on the football field. Not one player made any form of progress under Bruce. Longstaff? Schar? Ritchie? Wilson? Almiron? Lascalles? And of course what he did with big Joe - stuff of legends? Bruce had his backers in the press, sure, but not within the club nor the fan base.

I'm absolutely gutted like, but I can't say it's because of any lack of effort, endeavour, or even performance really. Our players are at their ceilings and I can't ask for more than that. Better players will have higher ceilings.

That's the first time I've even seen us compete in a Wembley final, but as soon as Man United scored twice from what felt like their 2% of possession in the first half, it felt like nothing went our way. Even at 2-0 down I felt like we could win if just something went our way, but it never did.

Can't say I was angry or frustrated, just sad really. But that's a measure of the already huge achievement of coming from where we were to where we are, we shouldn’t even be here yet. Howe and that team were close to being infinite in Newcastle's history and they all were more than worthy of achieving that, so despite being well ahead of schedule, it's sad that they didn't. So proud of the effort and to see our club so well represented at Wembley by Howe, the players, the performance, the fans, and Wor Flags.

JLA got it spot on about saying that it was like the last day of year 11 with these players in that final, there's definitely an end of The Breakfast Club feeling about this group, like.

For a lot of the players and for Howe of course, this is just the beginning, but for others they'll move on and so will we. A lot of those players will have a David Kelly feel about them imo - crucial players in our history who you love and you'd have loved to have stayed and achieved something, but will go hopefully to be replaced by our next Andy Cole or Peter Beardsley.

I'm sure once the sadness lifts and we look back on this season, the overriding feeling will be hugely positive. We don't demand a team that wins, we demand a club that tries. We've absolutely got that, but it's not just one that tries, it competes. One thing is for certain in all of this, we're definitely back.

This sums up completely my feelings from yesterday. The pride everyone gave was immense, but none more so than our fans, this was incredible and a spectacle that will be long remembered. This is just a start to our success, we now have a team and management we can be proud of, but also one that are clearly proud of our part in this. To everyone who went to the match, thank you, and to everyone who was in London too, thank you, you did us proud. You will be remembered.

Can't wait to see this beauty :D

Me too, this is going to be hilarious. The possibilities are endless, and it is almost impossible to discern what it is without any gaps. With only 50% in attendance it is anyone’s guess as to what it will look like. However, at least it is an effort and far more than most teams try, so kudos for this. Would have thought keeping it simple would help.

This is why a topic has a title? Don't change the narrative! Every thread seems to go this way! It's tiresome!

I was asking a question, from a post, hence the quote. Cannot see how I have changed any narrative here. Enjoy your day.

Just vote independence and leave us in peace.  I do hope though that if you do vote, England put up trade barriers and royally fuck the scots.  4m scots, 50% on benefits and they claim the rest of the UK are holding them back.

Sick of people whining all the time.

I need a break from forums.  So depressing man.

    Is this irony?

  11. During my time supporting the club, I have always retained a soft spot for our ex managers regardless of their success rate with us. There was always the feeling that they were trying their best for the club and us. Unfortunately Ashley and his cronies have altered this. Pardew, Kinnear, and Carver were all abhorrent in differing amounts, and it was fun to see the depths that they fell too post toon.
However, Bruce has reached new heights, with this, during his time here his narcissistic view was never about our club, it was about him, and it is joyous to watch the depths he takes clubs too. WBA, should know better, but appear to be in denial of the obvious and certainty of his failure. The only crumb of hope for them, is when it all falls to pieces, the next manager will surely have a free ride to make progress, and the fans can then get back onside.

In the meantime, to see the same old figures supporting his obvious failures and pathetic excuses is hilarious to see and follow. Looking forward to more WBAmisery with glee, until the point the fans realize what has actually turned up.

Some good craic in this thread for any older lads on here.

This match was just shocking from start to finish once we got inside. The trip down was amazing, so many, singing throughout.
But once inside there was too many tickets sold for the spaces, this was compounded by the paddock to the right being empty.  Spent the whole game with arms locked on a barrier with two folk in front of me. Throughout the match coins and spit was raining down from the delightful home crowd. Next day headlines were Geordies Riot. Children were being passed over the crowd. Initially the police were preventing people from climbing the fences. Disgraceful behavior from the club and the police.

To this day, my disdain for that club has never waivered.

Can't remember him ever being convicted of that mind. But since you're judge and jury we'll leave it at that

Guess you see what you want to see. Just don’t want to have any association with such rich fuckers, who are just too rich to be prosecuted, but just to say, Jimmy Seville was never convicted. Prosecution as I am sure you know is dependent on a number of factors, and guilt does not always get a prosecution. I am certainly no judge, but I have worked for him - something I am ashamed of to this day. Still, there are millions of other more appropriate tunes out there, with no dubious backstory to get behind.

Hiw about Smooth Criminal. Michael Jackson

    Eddie are you ok...........

Jesus Christ, do we want to be associated with paedophiles now. Occasionally, just occasionally we need to think. They would love that just a few kilometers down the road though.

  15. My real worry is that the other teams around us are picking up points with the occasional win. Really cannot see where the next win will come from, against any team. The defense, is weak, but slowly improving, but goals against per game are worrying, and generally do not lie. We have one decent half fit striker. We are going to have an awful lot of Brewcie luck to gain points.  There is not a team there at present.
However, I am hopeful that our new landlords are improving things, and want to succeed, and are trying to find the root problems, rather than some more chip paper with cheap emulsion to cover the gaping holes. Time is the issue this season.

  16. I hope that all goes well for him. It has clearly been a tough six months being second fiddle to the now departed muppet. Hopefully we can see that start of a team working together rather than the complete mess we had previously. He saved Bruce last year, and no one in the press gave him credit for this. Even fans here have been on his back likening him to Bruce and the regime, it is so difficult to work under a manager who is adept and clueless. Haven’t we all experienced this sometime in our careers? Give him some support.

10.1% of fans (ok, members) are happy with Bruce  I'd love to hear their reasons.

89.9% were unhappy, this does not mean the rest were satisfied. Some would be ambivalent towards him of course, so the numbers content with him would be much leads than 10%. You would have thought after a couple of years in a post fans would have warmed a little to him.

  18. I for one, am genuinely looking forward to the start of this. Five weeks to go, and a few more before any sort of information comes out. Whatever happens, it is a new step in the EPL. One way or another, it will have repercussions. This is perhaps the most interesting part.
If Ashley succeeds, what will this mean for the takeover? Would it lead to him discounting the sale of the club? Could other potential bidders then be interested? Would Ashley become just more entrenched if it failed? or would he just walk away? How are his other interests?
As we are SDs cash cow, will Ashley’s move to focus on Debenhams have a significant impact? If Ashley succeeds, will other clubs look to go down this route, especially if they are in financial difficulties?

  19. Luckily, I have never heard of this Grimes character, but what on earth is he on about with that Marxist comment. He obviously has never read any Marx, either in the original language nor an English translation. There are many BLM supporters who vote a long way to the right of centre. Equally I am sure that the are many who are centerist and others who are on the more left spectrum. The two issues are not the same nor equitable. He really could have done with some critical thinking classes back in primary school.

That’s always been the way and always will be, me I’m sick of pussy cutting around the issue, if you boo taken the knee you’re a fucking knacker and most likely don’t like anyone that isn’t white and don’t like them dirty foreigners either, they can go and fuck off because they are the type who claim not to be racist and act like they aren’t - when not booing taking the knee, sharing memes about dirty Muslims and other foreigners on social media etc. They are the worst, again they can fuck off absolute dregs of society!

Not the words that I would use in this, but the sentiment entirely sums up the issue. Everyone is different, yet we are all the same, some blokes just have smaller hands and d***s than others, whilst some are more of a d*** than others. Creed and colour and race are irrelevant to this. Equally, and more importantly there are great folk out there, everywhere. Classism is another issue, so many look down on others from a different class or so called perceived class, yet more folk in the UK are in the top 5% of wealthiest in the world. The issue is whether we as individuals respect others. This is not political, or it really shouldn’t be, it is about being a good neighbour. In an educated society we understand that others will have a differing opinion to us, the opposite is the definition of a bigot.
