  1. Early kick-off between Spurs and Arsenal. Fabregas is on the bench for Arsenal surprisingly!

  2. robert, lualua, chopra, cole

Care to expand on that one?

The mistake wasn't the selling, it was not making him ineligible while (whilst?) being on loan at Portsmouth. Cost us two points. Finished fifth on 56p, Liverpool came fourth on 60p (On the final day we played 1-1 against L'Pool at Anfield). Not that the two points would have mattered as it seems now, but just imagine if we would have won that February afternoon...

In recent days I'd say getting rid of Speed is the one I regret the most.

Who will be the first to mention Jenas?  :D

  3. Kevin Nolan in his column on BBC.com

"My vote for the Player of the Year went to Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes."

Speaking of Kevin Nolan, read that he rejected Bolton's contract offer, reportedly worth £60k/week.  If I'm not mistaken I read it on the guardians website somewhere..

    Owen may delay Newcastle comeback

    Newcastle striker Michael Owen

Owen was not risked in a reserve match on Tuesday

Newcastle striker Michael Owen may have to delay his return from a 10-month injury lay-off until his side's trip to Reading on 30 April.

Magpies boss Glenn Roeder said on Thursday that Owen, 27, is '50-50' to play against Chelsea on Sunday.

But, speaking from Newmarket races on Racing UK, Owen said: "I am looking at the game after that to make my return.

"I am just feeling the effects of doing so much work and I have got a bit of a tight groin at the minute."

Owen has been out of action since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in England's World Cup game with Sweden last June.

He has long identified this weekend's fixture as the one in which he hoped to feature again.

But Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder says the former Liverpool and Real Madrid frontman will not return unless in his opinion he is "in pristine condition".

"At this stage, I have not even discussed it with Michael as to whether he will be back for us on Sunday," added Roeder.

"His groin is a bit sore, but that is what happens when players have been out for a long time, they pick up niggles in other parts of their body.

"At the moment, we are being very careful with Michael, as we would with any other player.

"He certainly has not been ruled out of the Chelsea game but, if in the end he is, then we will start looking to our next match at Reading."

There had been fears that Owen's comeback would be delayed again after he was not selected in Newcastle's reserve squad to face Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

His only action so far came when he played 70 minutes in a friendly against Gretna at the club's training ground on 10 April and scored.

The timing of Owen's return has become increasingly political, with chairman Freddy Shepherd indicating at the weekend he is prepared to go to court to prevent England calling up the player for the vital Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia in June.

Newcastle are currently fighting for compensation for their £17m record signing's lengthy absence from the game.

  5. Seems like Fabregas has been staying behind after training to improve his finishing, ha?  :D 2 in 2!

I read somewhere that before his goal against Bolton, he had gone 40ish games without finding the net...

because normally he's an awful finisher.

    Fair enough...

Roeder should consider telling his whole squad to stay after training... :)

  7. I know it's has nothing to do with us really, but it still quite big news.  Will Real Madrid withdraw their interest or will they be daft enough and bid for him in the summer?

"Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a new five-year contract with Premiership leaders Manchester United.

The 22-year-old Portuguese winger has ended speculation over his future after being linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"I am delighted. I spoke with Sir Alex Ferguson about my future and everyone knew that I wanted to stay," he said.

"I am very happy at the club and I want to win trophies and hopefully we will do that this season."

United boss Ferguson added: "It is fantastic news, it emphasises the point that Cristiano is happy here and that he is at the right club.

I'm extremely pleased to see he is staying in the Premiership. He is one of the most exciting players I have ever seen

    MJ

"He has a great relationship with the team, staff and the fans and he will go on to be one of Manchester United's great players."

Ronaldo has been in scintillating form for United this season as they aim to win the treble of the Champions League, the Premiership and the FA Cup.

He is also the favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award.

Ronaldo joined United from Sporting Lisbon for £12m in August 2003, on a five-year contract which he extended by a further two years in November 2005.

He was strongly linked with a move following the World Cup, where he was involved in controversy with his involvement in Wayne Rooney's sending-off in Portugal's quarter-final win over England.

But Ronaldo has returned to England to lead United's charge on the treble."

  8. I just read this about Keegan on wikipedia:

    Newcastle

Keegan joined Newcastle United and spent two seasons there, during which time he was adored by the supporters. He played 78 times, scored 48 goals and helped them to promotion from the Second Division in 1984, within a team which also contained Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle and Terry McDermott. Keegan announced his retirement prior to the end of the 1984 season and on the last day of the season left St James' Park ground by helicopter, still in his kit, after an emotional (and goalscoring) farewell. He moved with his family to Spain and lived an exile's life until the call came back from Newcastle and his career as a manager began.

    Managerial career

    Newcastle

In February 1992, after eight years of retirement and golf in Spain, Keegan returned to the game as manager of Newcastle United. Widely heralded by a loving Newcastle public as the "Geordie Messiah"[2], he, along with his assistant and close friend Terry McDermott - who Keegan paid out of his own pocket for the first year of their managerial partnership - led Newcastle to promotion to the Premier League as First Division champions in 1993.

Although Keegan was appointed Director of Football in 1994 and agreed a new deal that tied him to the club for next 10 years, he resigned as manager of Newcastle on January 8, 1997.

Found out some things I didnt know such as the helicopter part and that he signed a ten year contract...

  9. From the guardians rumour mill:

Ginger pin-up Steve Sidwell is still muttering words of discontent at Reading. He has now officially been classified as "wantaway" by top Berkshire scientists. Symptoms include appearing in the tabloid back pages everyday and a burning desire to commit career suicide by moving to Newcastle. Our colleagues on the paper reckon Chelsea quite like the look of his stuff though - but if he's anything like Scott Parker (and it's questionable whether Sidwell's that good), he'll rot in their reserves before being shunted off to the Toon anyway.

    Owen Steps Up Comeback Bid

    By Craig Hope

MICHAEL Owen has joined in light warm-up work with his United team-mates as the club's record signing moves a step closer to pulling on the black and white jersey.

The 27-year-old striker is less than two weeks away from a return to full training, but is spending half an hour each day taking part in ball work with his Toon colleagues.

And gaffer Glenn Roeder revealed his excitement after seeing Owen strike a ball into an empty net for the first time on Monday.

The Magpies manager said: "Michael is now joining us in our football warm-up for the first time since he was injured last June.

"He is now taking part in 30 minutes of football with us everyday.

"But after that, when the intensity of this increases, he goes off to continue his work with our rehab coach John Green who, as he did with Kieron Dyer, has done a fantastic job with Owen.

"I watched as Michael was striking the ball into an empty net on Monday and, believe me, it was great to see.

"By a week on Monday Michael will be back in full training with us and he will be treated no differently to any other player in our squad."

Roeder has had the services of Owen at his disposal just once since taking over the reigns at Gallowgate on a temporary basis nearly 14 months ago.

And even then Owen was limited to just 30 minutes as a substitute in the 0-0 draw with Birmingham City last April.

A horror knee injury sustained at last summer's World Cup has kept the former Real Madrid ace sidelined since then, and United chairman Freddy Shepherd this week warned England bosses that Owen's return will only be when the time is right.

Shepherd said: "I am an England fan and I want to watch them in the Euro finals in 2008.

"But let's stop this clamour for Michael Owen returning to play for England before it gets up a full head of steam.

"Michael Owen will return when it is in the best interests of the player and Newcastle United not England.

"The player and Newcastle United come first, but he will not be rushed back just so that he can play for England in the summer.

"And make no mistake about it, if Michael is not fit for Newcastle United this season he will not be fit for England."

  11. it´s funny.

most of the swedish suporters really like this new strip. Even other suporters are doing that!

It looks like swedish and english suporters has a different taste=P

I'm a Swedish supporter and I think it's bloody awful!

I mean, what's the deal with the sponsor logo? And who's idea was it to put the Adidas thingy and the Newcastle crest in the middle? I like getting my nipples sore from time to time. And what happened with the stripes on the back? As someone posted earlier, are we trying to become West Brom or what?

That's just the shirt, don't even get me started on the shorts!

It might take some time to get used to, but I highly doubt it. But you will be able to find the shirt in my closet in the summer nevertheless...

  12. This season's kit is only for one year, too.

    Since when?

    Not allowed, Surely?

HE might have point. This is what it says on .co.uk:

"Exclusive The Strip Tease Is Almost Complete!

Reveal of the new NUFC home kit for 2007/08 is almost finished as excitement grows"

Note, says 2007/08 and not 2007/09
