  1. Bet there's no truth in it and Ashley and Pardew are in the boardroom reading this thread having a few beers and a good laugh.

I still think this might be happeneing. Two of the three direct sources haven't replied to texts and one of them in particular ALWAYS replies.

  2. I thought the atmosphere was great today. And the whole Pardew debate seemed to be no part of it, it was just about seeing a team almost reinvented playing with confidence, resilience and - very occasionally - a bit of swagger. There was a real feel-good atmosphere today. All that said, when leaving, there was a sizeable group of lads singing the  "Alan Pardew, he's back from the dead" song. The lad walking beside me with his girlfriend substituted that line with "I want him dead". Both made me smile. And ps, I thought Abeid was immense again today.

  3. No, we have a crowd who are - at least so it seems to me sitting in the middle aged silence of the East Stand - largely supporting their team. And watching a team who are actually playing well and - with the interesting exception of Williamson - playing the ball along the deck, the whole time. But I still really worry for us because we are woefully and obviously short of a class striker. The same class striker (along with a centre half) that Pardew was PROMISED by his paymasters before the end of the window.

    Dear Golfmag,

You're everything that is wrong with our club.

    Best regards,

Thanks for that. Nice to know you can respect 40 years of loyal support and a rational debate.

  5. From my - very reliable - contact in Holland: He is much better than his brother but had a lot of physical issues and didn’t play a lot last year. Ajax will be really happy to get this much money.

If he will be a success if he stays healthy depends on what you need.

He is a number 10 with goalscoring abilities but not a real target man and certainly not a  real striker.

  6. I had dinner at the Masters last night with Guy Roux - just me and a colleague and him and his son who works in golf. Roux is one of the most famous French Managers ever, winning the title with Auxerre.  As you guys know, without being a Pardew apologist, I think a lot of the criticism of him is misplaced and that the issue is the owner, lack of investment and a team that has played the second half of the season basically without Cabaye and Remy. With both those players and the same manager, we looked a bloody good team before Christmas. If you ask football people in France and Holland for example, they will tell you that players like Tiote, Anita (yes really), Goffran and Sissoko were not true, top-drawer players when they played in those leagues.

Anyway, didn't mean to rant, just trying to be balanced. Despite the above, Guy Roux said that Ben Arfa would always be on his teamsheet before Remy..he also said that Remy will always be injury-prone because of some sort of injury he suffered when he was wrong. He also talked fondly of Laurent Robert, who he managed.

  7. Sorry I got that COMPLETELY wrong. I was referring to Tony Toward. In the air somewhere between Philadelphia and Jacksonville and being thrown around. Must be affecting my sanity, along with being at SJP yesterday. At Philadelphia airport a couple of hours ago, this American guy serving my food asked which team I supported, I said Newcastle and he said, Aagh, Malcolm MacDonald!!

  8. Driving down past the Town Moor this morning, the stadium looked just amazing silhouetted in the sunshine, behind the miles and miles of green grass of the Moor. Incredibly beautiful. I'm going back to take a photo this afternoon.
