It’s a running joke/bet I have with a mate when we watch Newcastle together. What minute in game will Schar go down ‘injured’.

Letting the game continue when it's still in play under those circumstances is one thing, but allowing a quick free kick when the ball is out of play and a man is down is another.

Doesn't really sit right. Did he even check on Schar?

Better finish than given credit for, that.

Was on his way down losing balance yet managed to sort of push it past the keeper just before the defender got the block in.

The commentator on the coverage I watched kept saying that he didn't know much about how it ended up in the goal, which was a huge disservice to how good the finish was.

You can clearly see him dig out the shot to ease it past the keeper.

    Brilliant goal.

  3. It's one of those instance whereby VAR will just back whatever the on-field decision is.

Personally, if that was against us I'd be arguing it's a pen. I don't really see any excessive, un-natural movement from Awoniyi to manoeuvre a penalty.

Not to mention the Awoniyi looks an absolute lump who probably isn't deft enough to play for one

  4. I thought he had an utterly thankless task all game today and made a nuisance of himself on the limited occasions the ball was near him.

    Quite surprised at the comments.

this season is a bit of a reality check for Howe but also for the club in terms of if we want to be a PL/CL force what we need to improve on an look out for.

all the injuries, the sick schedule increase, the group of death CL draw, the horrific Carabao draw.

these can be excuses but then excuses wont get us to be a PL/CL force.

we need to improve on these and learn from them a lot and also on the transfers which were generally quite on the hit since takeover until the summer window. this time tho the way it turned out this was a mediocre window in hindsight which helped us not much really apart from the few good games Livramento had.

Is it really a reality check? There's pretty unanimous acknowledgement from the club be it commercial, operational, on field and all in between that we massively over achieved last season.

First thing I noticed that had been missing with him gone as soon as he played his first one. He loves them.

I genuinely think he's quite crucial to the potency of our attack. His fast line breaking passes often take several players out of the game, giving us way more space to exploit.

We're much more middling without him.

he will be more useful in Europe and the league when we’re playing against the bigger teams imo. Definitely feels more of a transition/counter attacking player rather than someone who’s going to breakdown a 5 man Brentford defence.

From the clips I'd seem prior to his signing, my interpretation was relatively the opposite in that he'd be more effect against the low block due to his tendency to play one-two passes and make direct runs into the box, something I feel would be more successful than a player that tries to dribble through the opposition, as they'll be overcome by the numbers.

ASM, for example, sadly isn't overly suited to the play style of a team such as ours that likes to sit a lot higher up the pitch, and therefore has significantly less space in front of them to exploit.

Barnes needs to get to know his team mates to build an understanding, after which I think he'll be very productive.

Gonna score a boat load. I think we are actually the perfect team to get the best out of him. It's gonna be such a great weapon for us to have against anyone that plays a high line.

It's almost like we actually target players that are suited to the way we play

  9. We've probably seen more in his time with us to suggest it's simply not true.

Seems his long term absence and subsequent sporadic appearances have resulted in people writing him off. He was very good in the half season loan with us and if he can recover that form he'll be a valuable player.

  10. It's a shame to see ASM go, but if it genuinely does mean in FFP simplistic terms as one or two on here have said, that we can buy another 3 or 4 quality players, then I feel it's a no brainer to sell him.

One of few saleable assets we have that for a few reasons (not talent) is expendable.

Pre takeover I'd have been gutted at him leaving, but we will absolutely be fine and continue to improve. Just a shame to see such an enjoyable player to watch move on.
