  1. Got the impression those fact have been brought up in order to prove to me who the better of the two managers is!

No, everyone knows who the better manager is. I'm just slightly huffed that AZ can sign a manager with a top class record and can't/won't.

a dutch manager wanting to manage a dutch team rather the mighty newcastle united

    who'd of thought it

What? Did you read my post? I said they have a manager with a top class record and we don't, in other words a team with a budget a fraction the size of ours and a 17'000 seater stadium has shown more ambition in getting a manager.

    you obviously didn't read mine

    Good one.

god this is like teaching the special kids

ok then, you think him being dutch has nothing to do with him wanting/getting the job?

Errrr... yes, that doesn't change the fact that we've shown zero ambition while looking for a manager.

it does blow your argument out the water though. Or have you got any more amazing examples?

What are you talking about? There isn't really an argument to be had here, all i'm saying is that AZ have shown ambition in going for a top manager and we haven't. Are you disagreeing with this?

were you equally amazed that Shearer signed for us? I'm not explaining this anymore, if you haven't got it already you never will

I'm wasn't amazed when AZ signed Van Gaal. I would just like to see us approach some top class managers when the position is open, it is the most important position in the club so why not throw big wages at a good manager, we don't mind doing it when we need a midfielder or a striker. AZ have used what they have(the country they're in) to lure a manager so why don't we use what we have(money)?

Now do you understand where i'm coming from?

  7. If we can get past AZ then we have to be considered major underdogs, the 3 other teams to really fear(Sevilla, Benfica, and Bremen) are all in title races domestically so maybe they will only have one eye on the UEFA Cup, in fact Sevilla and Benfica are have it ALL to do in the next leg so maybe one of them won't progress. :laugh2:

  8. was outclassed by Roeders tactics last night, mind that is not saying much as managers can get it wrong

He was very naive in his tactics yesterday, he put far too many attacking players out.

    Still though...

  9.

Bramble was a defender on the pitch last night, that's why i brought him into it. And you must have misinterrpreted my post as i always said Butt was to blame, all i asked was why people are having a go at Taylor when to me it's obvious he's no more to blame than Bramble. Not at one point did i say Bramble was to blame.

    Wasn't it you who said:

From the replay(just watched it on youtube) it looks like Bramble is marking the guy that scored, he was right next to him, why isn't he getting blamed?

Can you see why it might appear that you were saying Titus was to blame?

I suppose i can see why someone might misinterpret that if they hadn't read the whole conversation.

  10. Like others have said - go out, score the early goal and the tie is over.  So long as we play as positively in Holland as we did in the first half today then we should go through easily.  Just trying not to think about Sporting Lisbon...

I think they showed at 3-0 down that us scoring the first goal over there won't kill the tie. They can beat us 3-1, they can beat us 2-0. Those 2 daft goals we conceded are killers.

Just how was that two daft goals? First one was an excellent move and a brilliant finish from them, the second was just unlucky, Taylor clearly held his hand as close to his body as possible and can't be blamed for that penalty.

Taylor lost his man and was ball watching for the first goal, sod the good move business, he should have done better. For the second he was too far away from his man again, he should have been closer.

I think it was Butt that was tracking him then let him arrive in the box late, not Taylor

Taylor was ball watching not 2 feet away in actual fact.

When a player arrives in the box late like he did there it's up to a midfielder to track him, Butt was doing this up unitl the point where he decided to charge towards the ball. And Bramble was right next to the guy, much closer than Taylor, why is no one blaming him?

Maybe that's because Bramble was marking someone, Taylor was doing nowt.

From the replay(just watched it on youtube) it looks like Bramble is marking the guy that scored, he was right next to him, why isn't he getting blamed?

Because what you've said is a lie, he was not marking him he was marking the other player. Arveladze scores from right in front of Taylor (who isn't marking anyone) and at the start of his run he was being covered by Butt (who let him go), you can blame either of those two if you feel the need, but to try and put the blame on Titus is complete and utter bollocks!!

Taylor was staying out on the right in case the ball went through, there was another unmarked AZ player out there. I'm NOT blaming Bramble, i'm blaming Butt because he stopped tracking him and went chasing the ball, i'm saying Taylor is no more to blame than Bramble.

Why bring him into it at all?

Why not say Taylor is as much to blame as Shearer (for example) and why say that Bramble looked like he was marking Arveladze, when it's obvious he wasn't?

If you say what you said, it sounds distinctly like you ARE blaming Bramble, so in future when you're NOT blaming someone for something it might be a good idea NOT to mention their name. ;)

Anyway, I'm glad you're not blaming Titus for something he was not at fault for, hopefully you might start a trend. :)

  14. Despite poor performances and our league position, as well as our injuries, we have won 10 games in Europe and drew the others, where as since Roeder took over, our league form has been top 6 material. I think we are an average side at the moment with one or two decent players, but I don't think it would take a great deal to become a good team, so I guess we do have the makings of a decent side, would be my vote. How about you?

With a better manager, we'd have easily finished top 6 this season with those players.

That's what it comes down to, you can have all the players you want but you won't finish high in the league without a good coach.

  15. Worked well under Souness?!

As a DCM, case closed. Move him back there and he'll work well again.

I'd agree with that, he's the long term option for that position IMO. A good coach should be able to turn him into a permanent DCM easily, it's a shame we don't have one. I find all this criticism of Parker a bit strange to be honest, he seems to be public enemy number 1 on here.

  17. I wish, Van Gaal is one of the very best. But you've got to understand that the guy taught Mourinho about how to deal with the press(Jose was his assistant at Barca), Mourinho looks humble next to Van Gaal.

Also i'm not sure how well he'd get on with Shepherd, he's anything but a yes man and can be quite outspoken.

  18. Would love Viduka here on a free in the summer.

Owen, Martins, Viduka, Dyer, Ameobi, Sibierski

    Looks good to me.

Not if we continue to play our usual long balls and crosses that reach no-one because they're all too short etc etc I've not made a good post here have I

Viduka isn't short though, he's 6ft 1. He's large chap that's good at holding it up and is skillful at the same time. We really could do with a Viduka in the side right now.

  19. tbh I don't buy this whole Ben Haim to Chelsea thing, if they wanted him that badly im sure they could dig deep and scrimp and save the £3m he would have cost in January considering their lack of centre backs.

I don't think it's going to happen, Chelsea will get Alex from PSV, they've already actually bought him and he's on loan there.

  20. I'd like to see him go at the end of the season and take the old boys club(Clark and McDerrmot) with him,... ideally Shepherd would go with them but you can't have everything.

Shepherd likes to go for big name players, so why doesn't he go for a big name manager?!?! The manager's position is the most important at the club(bar chairman ofcourse) so why doesn't he offer some mega wages like he does with the likes of Owen, Emre, Duff etc???

  21. Errr... why would you spend money on Anton when you could get Distin for free? :idiot2:

Distin, Sidwell, and Viduka are all players we should be lookin at in the summer, and they're all free. Distin, Taylor, and Onyewu would be a good selection of CB's, with Distin being able to cover LB if needed and Taylor RB.

No doubt we'll buy Ashton for £10m, Anton for £5m, and Barton/Reo-Coker for some stupid amount, with all getting paid around the 50k mark. :(
