Longstaff just not playing will probably be worth another 9 points.

I’m not his biggest fan but that’s pretty harsh. He was our 4th highest top scorer

  2. I don’t know if he’s still the same player after all those setbacks (he’s generally looked quite poor this season despite being more available) but if- and it’s a huge if- Howe can get him back to the player he was a few years ago then 25m would be very solid business.

I didn’t want him simply because of his relationship with Mourinho.

Second-hand info here (from these Roma fans) so apologies if it’s wide of the mark but the general theme of their arguments were that he was just a Mourinho yes-man that added nothing significant of his own to the table.

I actually entirely agree on the 2 players thing. Something like 100m. If I were to take a stab at how our transfer window went, it would be something like this:

    Tosin IN free (ish)

    Kelly IN free (ish)

    Miggy OUT 14-19m

    Wilson OUT 10-15m

    Something like:

    Neto/Williams/Olise IN 50m

    Solanke/Sesko IN 50m

Then towards the end of the window, it would be a case of assessing what offers we get elsewhere. We might get a worthwhile offer for Targett or Krafth and the reality is that you just have to try and let them go. Anything we get back for them two, might allow us to do a Lewis Hall type deal (Loan with an obligation).

If the above happened, we've had a good window IMO.

Not to be that guy but loads of people forgetting that we have to buy Hall at 30 odd million too this window.

I think some people are living on cuckoo land with their transfer expectations.

Unless there's a raft of commercial activity, a change in PSR rules for next season, a mega-sale, a clear-out that includes active first-teamers - we'll not have more than 2 decent money transfers.

I reckon there will be a bit of some of the above. Some commercial deals, and some first-teamers leaving but nothing crazy. If we sign a new first-team GK - IMO we sell Nick Pope to help fund it. A new CM would require a midfield sale.

Yep. A free or two, a versatile winger in the 40-50m price bracket, Hall and a couple of Harrison-style starlets for the academy and that’s our lot, I imagine.

Mamardashvili is actually my dream signing this summer. Think he would change the way we played and have similar effect as Ederson and Alisson had on respective teams. Him, a good RW and the two frees seemingly take us to around the £100m mark in transfer fees. If we are dropping off the £120m from Jan 22 and whatever we spent in summer 2021, that could even leave a bit of flexibility for a striker, especially with a couple leaving and increase in revs, although wage bill is probably jumping a similar amount.

Despite reading about PSR on here and elsewhere I’ve no idea if my interpretation is even crudely correct.

Remember we’re also paying 30 odd million on Hall this window already.

  7. Longstaff

    Miley

    Joelinton

    Tonali

    Willock

    Bruno

    Anderson

Is solid enough squad depth for 3 positions. Could say we only have 1 natural 6 and would ideally like a bit more technical ability in there but numbers-wise we’re pretty stacked. Really doubt we’ll even be looking for another this window.
