Just seen Sol walking around in Corbridge, looked miserable.
  2. Darren Bent appears to have been involved in a furious row after allegedly accusing Spurs chairman Daniel Levy of 'f******' his move to Sunderland. The striker is desperate to tie up the £14million switch to Wearside but has become frustrated at Tottenham’s attempts to accept a higher bid from Stoke. And after a week which has seen Bent post messages on social networking site Twitter about heading to Sunderland for a medical, a new post claiming to be from him appeared yesterday aimed at Levy. Advertisement - article continues below » The tweet said: "Seriously getting p***** off now. Why can’t anything be simple. It’s so frustrating hanging round. "Sunderland are not the problem in the slightest. Do I wanna go Hull City? NO. Do I wanna go Stoke? NO. Do I wanna go Sunderland? YES. So stop f****** around Levy." If the outburst is genuine, Levy is bound to take action. Bent is a prolific Twitter user and earlier this week wrote about missing the tour to China for talks with Sunderland and saying goodbye to Spurs team-mates. However, Levy aims to recoup most of the £16.5m paid for Bent two years ago. Sunderland will not go above £14m, but Stoke may.
  3. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/Sunderland-fans-arrested-in-Dutch.5495848.jp Sunderland fans arrested in Dutch fracas Published Date: 27 July 2009 Eleven Sunderland AFC fans were arrested in Holland where the club was playing in a pre-season tournament. Five of those are still in custody, when they were arrested after disorder outside an Amsterdam pub. Another five Black Cats supporters were released after being fined for not carrying the correct identification documents. A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "The vast majority went over and enjoyed themselves and mixed very well with local supporters. A small minority were dealt with appropriately by Amsterdam police." SAFC took part in the tournament, which finished yesterday, along with Ajax, Benfica and Atletico Madrid. The mayor of Amsterdam had voiced fears about potential trouble between supporters as the Black Cats' rivals Newcastle United had a friendly match in Holland at the same time. But the issue was solved when the Football Association withdrew permission for NUFC to play.

  5. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/newcastle/4583833/Newcastles-Joe-Kinnear-might-not-return-to-St-James.html Joe Kinnear's turbulent reign as Newcastle United manager was hanging in the balance on Tuesday night as concerns mounted over his health. Kinnear, 62, spent a fourth night in hospital in Sutton Coldfield and it is understood that tests have now shown that his medical problems are more severe than his initial sunny prognosis suggested. Kinnear, who had a heart attack ten years ago when he was managing Wimbledon, was taken to hospital last Saturday due to his medical history after he woke up feeling unwell ahead of Newcastle's 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion. Initial hospital tests gave Kinnear cause to feel he would be back at work in time for Newcastle's game against Everton a week on Sunday but an examination by cardiologists on Monday showed his optimism was misplaced. If concerns over Kinnear's health problems that surfaced over the weekend prove to be realised then it could spell the end of his managerial career following an eventful six months at Newcastle. His reign began with a foul-mouthed tirade against journalists and he has regularly had brushes with the football authorities since returning to the touchline. Should Kinnear be unable to return to work, Newcastle's fight against relegation would be overseen initially at least by his coaches, Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood. Newcastle's director of football Dennis Wise and managing director Derek Llambias have met this week to discuss the future should Kinnear be told be could not return to work. However, if Newcastle owner Mike Ashley decides he would prefer a more experienced hand at the tiller it would be no surprise if he asked Terry Venables to take on the challenge. The former England and Tottenham manager turned down the chance to manage Newcastle earlier this season following Kevin Keegan's resignation because he was unwilling to work on such uncertain terms because Ashley was in the process of selling the club. Now Ashley has reaffirmed his commitment to the Tyneside and that may be enough to lure Venables to the North-East where he could resurrect his own career six years after his last front-line managerial job at Leeds.

  7. http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles/Football/2009/1/16/PremLigue-1-Rennes-no-to-MBia-Newcastle-move/gnid-35668/ Newcastle target Stephane M’Bia will not be making a move to St James’ Park – or anywhere else for that matter – this transfer window, his club Rennes has stated. The 22-year-old Cameroon international was the subject of a £5 million bid from The Magpies, which was confirmed by manager Joe Kinnear on Thursday. M’Bia was identified by Kinnear as an ideal midfield option, and the Premier League side approached Ligue 1 highfliers Rennes with an offer. However, the French side’s general manager Pierre Dreossi has stated that no-one else will be leaving the club this January transfer window, following Sylvain Wiltord’s departure for Marseille on loan. Dreossi has also ruled out the possibility of a loan switch for M’Bia until the end of the season. "There will be no arrivals or departures, nor any loans, even after the departure of Wiltord,” said Dreossi. "We are not interested in the departure of any of our players."
