Depends what we/the club want out of the stadium really. If it's just an extra 10k on top of the Gallowgate and a lick of paint etc around the concourses then I agree, we don't need to move.

If they really want to maximise the income from the stadium, that's where we would be limiting ourselves by staying put.

Do you think we need a capacity upwards of 65K though? My gut feeling is we don’t, certainly not any time soon.

  2. Surprised that leaving is ahead in the poll. If we can expand to the rumoured 65K mentioned in the poll and if we can refurb the existing interiors of the ground, I don’t think we need to move.

Still love the bloke. Achieved more in his tenure than the last 20 years of anyone else. Cup final, Cup runs, CL football, big scalps, record breaking and so on...

No matter what happens this year, he has my back next season. There's no other option. Anyone who has delusions of Naglesman etc will be sorely disappointed when they fuck off because we can't sign half a dozen high tier players each window or more likely they show no loyalty when a so-called bigger fish ask for their service.

I want stability. I want medium/long term thinking. Sacking Eddie would just make us another shitefest of a club like Spurs, Man United or Chelsea, with no long term plan or strategy.

My main concern is whether the infrastructure of the club is being grown. Are we maximising commercially? Are we producing a high standard of young players? A new training ground? Stadium expansion? These are the things which will shape our future, not whether we have a rough patch in the league.

Holding our nerve will pay dividends in the future.

Yep, you sum it up perfectly for me. It’s football, there will be ups and downs. We’re still a way off the ‘big 6’ in so many other ways, and not just our squad depth.

I did think we might’ve heard something more concrete by now on a new training ground etc.

  4. Arena's about a 15 min walk from the Central Station, probably about the same to SJP. The Arena site is less central than SJP though, in terms of the shops and bars etc. It would no doubt attract more investment around the Centre for Life area but probably at the detriment of elsewhere.

  5. Trying to claim it’s part of ‘levelling up the north’ etc. Manchester already gets way too much funding on that score, and have they not already had a stadium built with public funding? City’s former Commenwealth Games stadium?

Meanwhile we’re sitting up here getting crumbs.

  6. I don’t think we should worry about it too much myself. The club is still going forward with its project and Eales, Staveley & Co would find a suitable replacement who may actually show the club a bit more loyalty. He’s a man in a suit at the end of the day.
