If we nick this Giles from Brentford, how long does he have to work in the garden before he could actually start working for us?
I bet Brentford would ask for something like £10-15M for him.
tbf they have every right to

The point still stands though in that Man U are hundreds of millions in debt and we're not. Yet its Man U who are allowed to spend.

I very much doubt he asked for £12 mil a year seeing as Ashworth is currently the highest paid DOF on £1.5 mil a year - if he did go back with that figure he clearly didn't want the job.

It highlights the lunacy of the current rules.
-
True Geordie just made a good point in one if his videos - pointing out that Man U are hundreds of millions of pounds in debt, and we are the richest club in the world. Yet it is Man U that are allowed to spend and not us. When you say it like that it really shows how corrupt current rules are.

I will be intrigued to see how Man U get on with Ashworth there because I feel people (me included) have given him way too much credit for the transfers at Brighton. I am not saying he's not good at creating a structure that creates good decision making but people have him as to the reason Brighton have been so successful in the transfer market. He was not there long enough, I would also question what influence he has had at Newcastle.

It's the £300,000 weighting him down - ridiculously overrated player
-
I would happily tell Man U to get lost and let Ashworth sit at home till 2026.

Talking about Ashworth - just worth it for Roys comment on 39.41 secs - well said Roy

Personally think most are reading too much into it. He’s good mates with those at Ineos and he gets to join a massive club. Nothing else in it imo.
Clearly lacks loyalty, and has no integrity to honour his contract.

The issue with Miggy is lack of vision and lack of composure. Sadly he's not going to learn those things now.

Well you can, and have.
We did initially due to the lack of investment under Ashley but can't going forward. Newcastle have a fraction of the commercial income Man U have. There is no comparison. It's never been about the economics for Man U it's how they have spent it. Hence why they want Ashworth.

What doesn't make sense? Since the Saudi's came in we've both spent around £400m have we not? That's despite us having 3x your revenue.
We desperately needed a striker and midfielder last January and couldn't afford it. Had to sign Weghorst and Sabitzer on loan.
We couldn't afford to buy Amrabat outright in the summer for 20 odd million and had to sign him on loan.
The notion that Newcastle are hamstrung by FFP and we aren't is nonsense. We can spend £150-200m each season, which is reasonable given our turnover.
Which we can't

Seen it mentioned on one of the podcasts today that Trippier has more assists in this one season than Miggy has managed his whole career here, which is six seasons. If that's true, it's an absolutely disgraceful statistic. Don't really want to see him starting games from here on in, although with the injuries we've got he's probably going to be starting most of them.
tbf though - Tripps take all the corners, all the free kicks and is playing in a much better team that Miggy was previously. That being said Miggy needs to look up once in a while and pass - that statistic would then shoot up.

Definitely a pipe dream - Edwards even fobbed off a lucrative part time consulting gig with Liverpool, but what's the harm in speaking it into existence.
wasn't that because he wanted a new challenge? et voila ->Newcastle

Maaan people are gonna be mad when an Ashworth-led ManU trigger a hidden release clause in Bruno’s contract
you would hope that only applies to clubs overseas i.e RM

Any rumours yet on who will replace Ashworth?
Probably zero truth in it but I wouldn't say no..

Exactly this. £20m is a pittance when you consider how much they and the media are crowing about nabbing him from us. Double it to £40m and we are talking….and he still can’t start working for them till 2nd September.100% - time for NUFC to flex some muscle and show we won't be pushed around. Dan clearly is key to their plans - why should we help them? I hope we force them to wait it out to 2026.

£20 million or you're waiting until 2026. I love it.
on full pay though
Dan showing his true colours.

Hard to imagine he’s not had the OK that Man Utd will pay up. He’ll know what’s he signed unless he’s trying to pull fast one.
According to the mail Newcastle will still have to pay his wages when on gardening leaving - so he's nought to loose.
QuoteIt is thought Man United are willing to be patient and wait for Ashworth if a compromise cannot be reached, and that would mean Newcastle paying his wages for the duration of his gardening leave.
