  1. Not sure Billy knew what that first 45 was all about tonight, the quickest moving 45 minutes he's likely to have experienced, we were like men possessed first half. He took a few whacks from a few frustrated Orient players tonight, after a few glimpses of real quality. Not his best outing in the quarters so far, could be worse, could be Kenny Jackett who was sacked straight after the game.
  2. If we make the play offs at Wembley he will get to experience 45k screaming Gasheads if our previous visits to the capital are anything to go by. Should hold him in good stead to get used to the roar of the Toon Army should he make the first team.
  3. Totally undetstand where your coming from. I dreamt as a kid the chance of possibly reaching the promised land but its almost a closed shop now, the gap is impossible to bridge, if we were to become a nursery for Newcastle it would be ironic. From the Keegan and Robson days I've always wanted to see Newcastle do well, proper fans with loyalty that I think few others have in terms of fan base versus trophies. Looking forward to taking in a game at St James's at some stage. Loved visiting in the summer and there is something special about the place and looking forward to coming back with wor lass!!
  4. We used to play next to a Gasworks in Eastville until 1986. The other team in Bristol used the term back in the 60's, describing us as Gasheads as an insult, we stank of Gas. So as a result the other team in Bristol became know to us as sh1theads. And the term Gas/Gasheads was turned into our favour and happily adopted among fans.
  5. Football fans and fickle, rolls off the tongue easily Mr Raspberry Jam, we all know that!!! I think the divided fan base was mostly down to his criminal record TBH, he hasn't exactly helped himself, he fascinates me, he is certainly looking, acting and sounding the real deal a year on from his arrival and you can see he lives and breathes the game. Barton is certainly a born winner and has transformed our place completely with his professionalism, has the whole squad and backroom staff believing in him. The play offs are in sight now and the quality of players he has signed at this level is an eye opener, we do actually play some decent football if given the chance.
  6. I'm old enough to remember the days when we were both in what is now the championship, second division then, playing in a sh1t ground (nothing changes) Twerton Park in Bath after losing Eastville. We surrounded and looked after a couple of Geordies near us in the home end to make sure they were ok after a session on the rough cider, and we looked after them, so long back they were wearing denim dungarees! So as a 50 something year old I don't like the idea of being a nursery club for a premier league outfit, no disrespect to Newcastle, finding it hard to deal with the changing times of the game in so many ways, but it is what it is, and to a certain extent can work for the odd player here and there and suit both clubs. Elliot appears to be loving his time here and i'm sure will head back north with no regrets and a few stories to tell. So no complaints on this one, the young Chelsea players we've had on loan in the past struggled with the physicality at this level, and lack of protection from the ref, not Elliot though!
  7. The lad has been instrumental in his past 3 games for us, compliments a winning mentality throughout the club as it stands. I'm sure he is enjoying his time here with a club on a real push for promotion, certainly looks like he is enjoying his football. He might have a Wembley appearance on his CV come May the way things are shaping up.
  8. I-Follow shows quite a few games £9.99, its not pretty down here mind! Seems Joseph has found a good source if CBD and has calmed right down in recent months. Back to Elliot, he ran the game from midfield last night, sutton are a long ball physical bullying ex national league side, seems to be not just coping with that but thriving too!
  9. According to reports CPS have brought about the case with no witnesses and no victim statement.
  10. No doubting his managerial path mirrors his playing career, he is a winner. He was ruthless calling out the club when he arrived, shipped out half the squad in no time at all, not much left behind closed doors! Publicly talked about the things he didn't like or accept at the club and was given the keys to the club by our owner to change what he wanted. The way in which the club has transformed since his arrival has been incredible, the level of professionalism, dedication, detail is something the club has needed for far too long. Watching him on the sidelines he studies relentlessly, presents well in the local media and has a lot of belief in himself. Away from football it's another Crown Court case next month, if found guilty of assaulting his wife he will be gone, and managerial career in tatters. If it's a not guilty I think he can take us to the Championship, he is an astute manager, recruited what is arguably the strongest league two squad in under a season , he's found a way he wants to play which is pleasing on the eye, at times! Feels like a knife-edge situation for his career now with court next month.
  11. North side of the river I hope! Worth a trip the way it's going, Elliot got a good 40 minutes in and impressed by many accounts. Quoted on twitter: Looks a class above on ball and movement, missed a couple of half chances, when he gets up to speed no doubt he’ll be the best player in this league. A decent point overall, at 3rd place Sutton today, were unbeaten in 5 and lost 2 of the last 12, 60 points to play for and plenty of noise and the club feels as one again for the first time in a few seasons. I would imagine that Elliot will enjoy his time down here, get used to the physicality and benefit as a young player, rather than be mostly on the bench at Luton, Barton has all of them running through brick walls now.
  12. Rovers fan here in peace, with a big soft spot for Newcastle, enjoyed first visit back in the summer and a good wander around St James bit gutted the Strawberry was closed in the day though. With regards to our current league status, were 3rd in the form table on the past six games, six points from Swindle Town in the play offs, with up to four games in hand on teams above us. Barton has turned the fanbase in his favour after being divided for so long, he has his players playing for him and there’s a real sense of momentum. It’s a bias view but I think well reach the play offs, it’s a very strong squad for scrappy league 2 football, ten players have recently returned from injury, and it feels like its all coming together, until Barton is due back in court in March… If Elliot (we’ve got two Andersons and one Anderton now in the first team) gives his all then he will have certainly enjoyed his time here, plenty of noise down here recently and he should hopefully thrive and benefit from the experience of football still watched from the terraces, proper football experience!!! Looking forward to seeing the lad put the blue and white quarters on, not much pretty about league two, but his development on the physical front is going to improve playing here I would think, seems as though JB is going to give him game time. Fingers crossed your boys keep you up this year, if not please humiliate the Bristol Sport Franchise over the other side of the river next season!
