Not even remotely surprised. Some people I know who have been going all their life are hugely tribalistic about where they sit and wear it like a badge of honour.

I've been all over the shop and and I'm currently in a place I'd leave in a heartbeat.

I voted pro SS willing to move to facilitate.

It's sad how anal fans are about where they sit. Like you i've been all over. 2 seats in Leazes, 2 in leazes corner, level 7 and strawberry corner.

Seat moves would improve atmosohere but so many fans are selfish.

We don’t demand a team that wins, we demand a club that tries...

    Unless the game's finished 1.1.

    The sun's out

The pubs running out of beer if i don't get there for 5pm

Oh the last bus is in 6 hours!

Aye exactly that...fucking off early to get a pint before the pubs busy.

  3. Any fans who left before the players lap of the pitch are grade A cunts.

These are the wankers who just turn up with zero passion and fuck off early for a pint and early.

Why is that weird energy drink scruff still licking Sunderland’s arse and arguing with Newcastle fans on Twitter. Strange

Actually met the bloke through work, hasnt a pot to piss in but think's he can buy a championship club like its pocket change.

  5. I think people get hung up chances missed by top strikers, as its been mentioned by people such as Shearer and Ally Mccoist recently but top strikers miss chances in positions that good/average strikers don't get in to.

Makes me laugh how Haaland gets stick.

Yes but both theirs have been in discussion much longer and like you’ve said still to be installed until close season. What are you actually expecting to of happened within the space of a month or two?

Agreed but our Safe standing was done as a "trial" you'd like to think by even half way through season they can measure if it's a success and next steps.

And what about the fans who currently sit there who don't want to stand? Or they offered guaranteed seats to their liking or do they just have to give them up half way through the season for other people to move into

If we started the consulation of seat moves in March then there is no reason why this could'nt of be implemented in the summer ahead of new season as other clubs have done the same.

If Man Utd did seat moves for 7k safe standing a few year back and rolled it out successfully then how can't we do a couple of thousand in the Leazes end?

It could easily be done but we have a large amount of fans who put themselves before the club.

When were you expecting them to do this?! [emoji38] The meeting about the atmosphere was only a couple of month ago. Any changes like that would need a safety certificate to allow the club to proceed you’d think then it’s not a job that can just be done in between games. See what happens close season.

Sunderlandd announced only last week they are adding safe standing for the new season and their season starts earlier than ours, Liverpool also announced same thing this month that Kop will all be safe standing.

Acoustics plays a massive part imo. As people know we are ST holders at PSV Eindhoven. 35k capacity. Very steep stands all of the same height. We sit quite a way from their singing end where the most boisterous supporters are, more or less the other side of the ground but noticed even at times when there's clearly only a couple of hundred of them singing it really carries right across the stadium amd sounds loud. Compare to SJP and if you're sitting a fair way from the Strawberry you can see them all (1.5k+) really going for it but the noise simply doesn't carry across.

Stadium design plays a massive part. Been to Ibrox several times and that's probably the best example of a stadium design that is great for atmosphere because you can actually hear the echo of the noise rebounding off each stand when they are up. It's pretty spine tingling tbh.

At the other end of the you have a big vast bowl like what West Ham have. 60k+ there and they now have real difficulty generating noise, despite having twice as many fans is as the Boleyn Ground which admittedly could get pretty noisy.

Southampton in the League Cup last year was a great example for me. We got stuck towards the back of L7 right across towards the Gallowgate. Atmosphere was completely dead. Embarrassing for a Semi Final. Met up with mates in the pub who'd been in the Gallowgate and they were raving about the noise.

Spot on, Evertons new ground to me looks like it ticks all the boxes, all 4 stands same size and close to the pitch.

You mean keep a sloped roof, but higher obviously?

Sorry worded it wrong, to be has to be all or nothing as in we knock it down stand by stand or we move. I think just expanding the gallowgate would be crap personally.

There's always going to be a direct correlation to what you get on the pitch vs what you get from the stands. If it's backs against the wall like a lot of the Rafa games it would/can be hostile, the same way if you're taking the game to a superior team it can make it one of the best atmospheres in Europe. Obviously not mentioning the big games - ala PSG, Man Utd etc. Like most teams, we've often fell into the trap of the games we're 'expected to win' making atmosphere flat. Pointless trying to say it's only us as that just isn't the case. Also not a recent thing, it's been a thing since I started going late 90s/early 00s. Night games/late kick-offs help too (booze).

Now there is no denying the atmosphere is worse this season, home and away. On the pitch is a factor, but as many have touched on not having like-minded people in the same areas is really where the problem lies if you ask me. The ballot system (which doesn't impact me I will add) has meant groups of lads and lasses more likely to get behind the team can be stuck in Leazes L4/7. How the club combat this I don't know.

I'm potentially wrong here, but for what it's worth I think we lost a lot of the 'hardcore' when Benitez left. I'm not trying to glorify the atmosphere in them days either. But we all know people who are either shut out or stuck somewhere random in the ground.

No answers as to how to fix it really. But as I've said before, if we do decide to extend rather than move, it's important we don't fall into the trap Liverpool have done and offer 10% of additional seats to season tickets. An extension should be done with the majority of tickets going towards new season ticket holders. Obviously the club won't do this as less ££, but doing that alongside making a singing section next to the away fans would have a hugely positive impact on the atmosphere imo.

It was definitely decent on Tuesday though. It's never going to be like PSG every game, and I do agree a lot of the revered Europe atmospheres are manufactured noise.

From what I gather, Arsenal are having similar issues this season. Their atmosphere was decent last year but many seem to have the same gripes as us this season regarding ballot system etc. I don't really think any owners give too much of a shit how loud the ground is, as long as the team is winning and seats are filled. The sad reality of modern football.

Spot on, think regardless of the stay or move argument we need to hsve mass relocation of season ticket holders.

In fairness i think away support seems to have returned to more 'normal' since christmas. Our support at man city was immense and speaking to lads I work with are season ticket holders at Chelsea they thought us in the cup with 5k allocation was better than Boro Leeds and Villa (all cup 5ks)

Trouble at home is all stands are similar mix. Should be younger more game fans behind goals in Leazes and gallowgate.

It will never be a truly great stadium if we can’t do anything with the East Stand, one look in the atmosphere thread from last night also confirms that the whole acoustics of the place are shite.

It needs to be a complete rebuild job if we stay at SJP for me, mirroring level 7 at the Gallowgate End will kill the place stone dead, the current level 7 is so poorly designed, why the hell we’d want to mirror it at the Gallowgate End is beyond me.

Exactly this, has to be all or nothing simple as that. The leazes and milburn expansion was good and practical at the time but by no means should we mirror it.

Even worse when their team is getting beat and they do it.
