Gash
Never been away, although it would make more sense to go away, less travelling. Hopefully get a couple of aways under my belt next season.
Guest Milburnthedog
Went to Wembley with my dad when we played Man City in the League Cup Final 76. Got the coach down with the 'Evening Chronicle' and stayed overnight coming back on the Sunday. We broke down for several hours near Lords Cricket Ground on the way back and I pucked up around Chester le Street on the way back, much to my dad's disgust. The match was poor with Barnes opening the scoring in the first period for City before Alan Gowling equalised before half time. We weren't good in the second half and Dirty Dennis scored with a decent overhead kick to win it for them. I do remember Micky Burns going close near the end. We sung, "We love you Newcastle" as the players trooped around our end and waved, covered with scarves. My first bad Wembley experience. I also remember dad refusing to watch the match highlights on the TV in the hotel and we went out for a steak instead. I was 12. My first 'proper' away was Easter 1977 when we drew 2-2 at Joker Park. A brilliant experience as we came back to 2-2 after being 2-0 down. Cannell and Tommy Craig (from a corner if I recall) scored to send the corner of the Joker End mental. I stood close to the metalwork of the massive floodlight as I wasn't too tall and could see from that angle. The secong goal was my first moment of 'going mad' jumping around like a loon, hugging strangers and singing myself to a standstill. It was not possible with my dad there (he is a Manc!!)
