So would you prefer to lose him for less than £10m now at this late stage in the transfer window or possibly lose him for nowt next summer?

 

It's a lot of money in wages, but we desperately need a player like Michael Owen in the squad.

 

Pay it and keep him.

 

We don't have to sell for another year and we'll never get more than a couple of million for him anyway with his wages. Offering a player who only plays half our games twice as much as anyone else in the squad is something Freddy Shepherd would do. e

 

We can't sell him in a year, his contract will expire in June 2009, meaning he can leave on a FREE TRANSFER at that point.  If Owen would accept less money then that's great, as I'd prefer him to be on a lower contract.  Problem is that Owen doesn't want to take a pay-cut and you need to think about how much it would cost in wages and transfer fee's to get a suitable replacement for him or whether its even possible that we could even get close to replacing someone of Owen's quality.

Maybe we're aware there are other cluibs sniffing around trying to pick him up on the cheap and this is one way of trying to fuck them off: i.e: don't even bother unless you can offer him more than 120k a week - should be more than enough to see of the likes of Spurs and Everton.

No - if Owen does want away he aint going to do that, no other club would offer him that kind of wage so why would he want it out there.
