Just putting it out there, but.....

Donetsk is a city of East Ukraine on the side of the Russians.

Given what has happened should we be doing any business whatsoever with such a club?

Well surely they deserve to lose rights to all of their players, no? We should be picking up freebies..

Guest chicken little

This is not someone we should be doing business with.

well, one could perhaps make a moral argument in favour of using the current instability as leverage to take assets from his business at deflated prices.

Not that it matters on whether we should deal witn Shakhtar but Akhmetov is indeed close to Putin's circles and has supported Janukovich's party for many years. Like them both, he's on the endless list of people who were chosen to wake up on mountains of wealth one morning in 1989. He has since become probably one of the most successful ones of his type.

Currently 99% of the major and medium-sized football clubs in Eastern Europe and Russia are owned by people who were either 'created' by the KGB and/or have serious ties with the Russian mafia. It's sort of a concious policy of the Putin adiministration.

Shakhtar have always had that great scouting network in Brazil of course. They 've bought some brilliant players over the years, Respect to the oligarch twat for that.
