JH
Toon Kids Cruise Past Cannaries By Craig Hope NEWCASTLE Juniors booked their place in the last 16 of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-1 victory over Norwich City at St.James' Park. Andy Carroll was the Magpies' hero after a double strike with Kazenga LuaLua scoring United's other. The pair had returned to Academy action after being named among Glenn Roeder's substitutes for Saturday's FA Cup game at Birmingham City. And Toon boss Roeder was among a crowd of 1,092 along with chairman Freddy Shepherd and players Paul Huntington, Peter Ramage and Matty Pattison. The Canaries opened the scoring after 24 minutes when strike pairing Kris Renton and Chris Martin combined, Renton taking advantage of hesitancy in United's backline before pulling back for Martin to slot home from eight yards. The young Magpies were soon chasing an equaliser and LuaLua's effort had to be tipped wide by Arnold in Norwich's goal on 26 minutes. LuaLua was again creating problems for the visitors just moments later, his clever reverse pass finding full-back Darren Lough on the overlap but his driven effort was saved by the keeper's feet. United's leveller came after 34 minutes when Carroll scored his first goal in the club's colours at St.James' Park. The Gateshead-born centre forward received the ball on the edge of the area before swivelling and firing a low left-footed effort past Arnold. Academy winger Jonny Godsmark used his pace to get the better of the Norwich full-back and pulled back for Carroll but the striker's hooked effort went narrowly wide of the City goal. Carroll again found himself with a golden opportunity to put United ahead but shot straight at the keeper from 10 yards after being played in by LuaLua. And it was LuaLua who eventually nosed Kenny Wharton's men in front with a fine effort just three minutes before the interval. The 16-year-old darted between two City defenders on United's left wing and shot through the legs of Arnold from a difficult angle before celebrating with a series of spectacular back flips. The scoring was complete on the stroke of half-time when Carroll grabbed his second after drifting into the City penalty area and heading home Lough's corner from six yards. Nowich rallied in the second-half and twice went close through goalscorer Martin, an 84th minute strike being cleared off the line by centre-back Callum Morris. Carroll was earlier denied his hat-trick after 60 minutes when a quick free-kick from 20 yards was pushed over the bar by a scrambling Arnold in City's goal. United: Mark Cook, Mark Bertram, Darren Lough, Callum Morris, Alex Francis, Rob Cavenar, Jonny Godsmark (Dean Critchlow, 86), Ross Cowan, Andy Carroll, Ryan Donaldson (Mark Doninger, 90), Kazenga LuaLua Subs not used: James Debbage, Alex Patterson, James Marwood http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~963301,00.html
Guest TheOrder
Just got back from the game, went with Paul Mosley. Decent game, first half was good, second half was uneventful. Godsmark, Lua Lua and Carroll all shone, while Bertram had a stinker, and was out paced but the left winger on multiple occasions. Seen Lua Lua alot these past two seasons, and he's really, really come on, seriously. He shields the ball well, has an electric burst of pace, and he's got an eye for goal. He's just really small! It was absolutly bitter out there tonight, my joints are still thawing out. Anyway, time for some fried chicken. MOM- Carroll (for his filck ons and brace) P.S, Godsmark looks the business at academy level too, he's very, very quick.

I saw he's scored 5 goals in 4 games and was just wondered if he was as good as his goal scoring record suggests.
