Clark Urges Kids To Take Chance

By Craig Hope

LEE Clark has reminded his young players that impressive displays for Newcastle United's Reserves could lead to first-team opportunities.

The Magpies second-string go into Tuesday's game against Everton on the back of a tremendous 3-0 victory at Sheffield United last week.

And Clark wants his Toon starlets to be knocking on Glenn Roeder's first-team door before the end of the season.

The Geordie coach said: "I keep telling the lads that they should be aiming for the first-team by performing in the Reserves.

"They are just one step away from the first-team, and when you look back at the history of Newcastle United they should know they have a chance.

"And the manager has already shown he is prepared to bring young players in, so they are in a good position.

"He knows what is there and they need to show some form."

Striker Andy Carroll has already made four substitute appearances for the senior side this term, and his headed brace against Sheff Utd took his tally to five for the Reserves.

Clark added: "Andy Carroll is still just 18, but at Reserve level he is experienced because of the amount of games he's been involved in this year as well as first-team experience.

"It's all good development for him, but he isn't the only one.

"Kazenga LuaLua and Ryan Donaldson have also been involved in plenty of reserve- team football this term.

"There are quite a few schoolboys and first-year professionals who have been involved too."

Tuesday's game is a 7pm kick-off at the Halton Stadium, Widnes.

Chuck him in the first team, can't do any worse than that lot.

I loved the poster of him in the programme on Saturday btw, was that just for him Mam?

It was class. Rockers exact words were "That can go in the bathroom as wanking material"

Surely can offer pretty much what Sibierski does but with a lot more mobility?

He's also an excellent header of the ball and has a powerful shot on him and can score thunderbolts from distance.
