Your Newcastle players of the year 1993/1994 - 2006/2007

This thread might die on its arse but i'm bored. Basically pick your Newcastle player of the year for each season. If you want/bored you can go back as far as you want. Obviously i can't go back too far cos i'm not old enough to remember:

1993-4 = Andy Cole

Honourable mention to Beardsley, but for a record breaking season, would be harsh to look past Andy Cole.

 

1994-5 = Peter Beardsley

Rob Lee & Ruel Fox both impressed and chipped in with a fair number of goals, but Beardsley kept us going after Cole went.

 

1995-6 = Les Ferdinand

Ginola, Lee, Gillespie & Beardsley all excellent, particular before January, but Ferdinand took over where Cole left off.

 

1996-7 = Alan Shearer

Ferdinand, Elliott & Peacock all enjoyed good seasons, but Shearer was at the peak of his powers.

 

 

1997-8 = Christ, um...David Batty

Not a lot to choose from. Barnes & Pearce did ok as veterans, but a season to forget.

 

1998-9 = Dietmar Hamann

Took a few months to adapt, but once Gullit put him in the centre with Speed, he was outstanding.

 

1999-2000 = Gary Speed

Shearer scored 30 goals in all comps, Dabizas was excellent, as too was Rob Lee, but Speed chipped in with a healthy number of goals.

 

 

2000-1 = Nolberto Solano

Not the best season, Dyer showed bags of potential, Goma & Hughes formed a good partnership before the former left, but Solano was beginning to attract the attention of Real Madrid and had finally adapted to the Premiership.

 

 

2001-2 = Alan Shearer

Given, Solano, Robert & Bellamy all excellent, but this was the re-birth of Shearer, with the press & Sven begging him to go to Japan & Korea for the World Cup.

 

2002-3 = Shay Given

A number of our wins this season were down to the odd goal, which is why Given gets the nod ahead of the 4 listed above plus Jenas.

 

2003-4 = Jonathan Woodgate

An absolute rock in the defence prompted Real Madrid to pay £13m for him.

 

2004-5 = Shay Given

Not many obvious candidates this season, with Given shining once again.

 

2005-6 = Charles N'Zogbia

After showing glimpses of his potential towards the end of the previous season, was a key reason why Newcastle rallied under Roeder to finish 7th

 

2006-7 = James Milner

Along with Given, Martins & Taylor, one of only a few to do anything of note.

you forgot Butt, surely only Milner's real contender
