  1. I was surprised because although he can't tackle, the one thing he used to do was make a decent back up keeper and get the blocks in. Today he just watched those shots whistle by him the useless tit.

he actually appeared to dodge their 3rd!
  2. A club called Newcastle United are getting relegated, but it isn't the club I once loved.  Fuck them all.

if only we could just relegate all the cowardly players & Wonga!

  3. why do people keep referring to the NUFC mgr job as a 'poisoned chalice'?  is this view held by the Toon faithful?

The restrictions placed on managers under Ashley. Hands tied behind their back whilst all the potential in the world is held in front of them just out of reach.

so the poison is Mike Ashley then. makes sense!

  4. People are talking about winning 5 in 10, when the team has won 6 league games all season... I'm pretty sure the morale surge alone of signing Benítez will do a lot, but I'm really afraid that it will be too late. And IT WILL SUCK.

 I'm preparing for possibly the greatest vertical drop on the emotional roller coaster we've ever had to experience.

Still, while obviously tinged with an almost overwhelming shadow of relegation, and him buggering of before any sort of project even starts... it's nice to dream.

I'm probably going to be more anxious about your run-in than ours, makes me feel weird

So much of the anxiety could dissolve away simply on how we look tonight. Not winning (that would be way too much for a dickie heart), just looking like a group that can be dangerous, and could win sooner rather than later.

I'm absolutely shitting it. :frantic: :indi:

i posted this in he pre-match thread, but solidarity bruthah!

  5. Mick Quinn is ecstatic about the NUFC appointment.

Rafa Benitez will be the best manager to stand in the home dugout at Newcastle United since Sir Bobby Robson - he is that good.

Mike Ashley has not appointed many people who excite me and the fans over the years, but Benitez is a proper manager.

His record states that – he is a Champions League winner. When’s the last time Newcastle had a one of those in charge?

There’s been ones who’ve won it as players, but not as coaches.

This is a coup for the club, make no mistake about it. I’ve followed him since his Liverpool days, another club very close to my heart, and he is a proper football man.

Benitez knows the English game inside-out and he has succeeded in the Premier League before – I see no reason why he wouldn’t do that again at Newcastle if he’s given the correct assurances.

What I do know about Rafa too is he will love the club and the passion that surrounds it – he thrived on that at Liverpool and he will definitely buy into it at Newcastle too.

The thing with Rafa is he just gets it, and I think Toon fans will learn that quite quickly.

        He’s a big-time manager.

Out of the credentials of all the names linked with that job, he 100 per cent has the best CV, so in fairness to the club they’ve gone for the best man by far.

I think he’s a class act. When he was at Liverpool, they won four trophies and it started brilliantly; for the first few years it worked extremely well.

If I’m honest I think it went sour towards the end of his Anfield tenure – and both him and the club really needed a change by then.

The last season was poor to be fair but the first few were exceptional.

I have every ounce of respect for him because he’s a winner.

  6. :clap2: the winds of change are blowing & this is a sign that our stars are aligned & the football gods are smiling upon us!  'probable losses' shall turn into draws & narrow losses that could/should be draws turn into wins!  :indi:

  7. would it be possible/allowed for NUFC to be publicly owned?  i mean, if i had won the 1.5 billion dollar lottery a few weeks back & then bought NUFC from ashley (assuming he'd sell) could i then sell shares of stock in NUFC to the general public? or however it would work... does the premiere league allow it?

You could organize the club as a trust (there are various models) and give 51% of the voting rights to the supporters (season ticket holders and so on). The supporters would elect a president once every 3 years who would be accountable to the supporters/trust. The board would also be electable and them and the president would preside over the appointment of the manager. There would be an EGM at the end of every season and a vote for president every 3 years. There is nothing the PL can do about it. They only have say over the fitness of new owners and can block people buying clubs if it is proven they are coming from a history of dodgy dealings etc....

i see.  thanks.  would toon fans want such an arrangement?  it seems to work well for the NFL's green bay packers...

Personally I believe all clubs should be structured in this way. It is the only sure way of stopping clubs getting fucked up by idiots and outside forces with no connection to spirit and history of a club.

    yeah...:::sigh:::  if only...  :sad:
