Yea I’m a bit baffled by this. That’s how I see it too. You can't "sue" until the bid is first rejected. You can't "appeal" until there is something to appeal against. That is why everyone (well, some of us) are so positive now, even a little bit more positive than we always have been. If you don't get accepted when it clearly (Chelsea/Man City-wise) should be, then a clear rejection is the next best thing. That Club Statement by Ashley leaves absolutely NO room for doubt, none whatsoever. He wouldn't have said any of that if he wasn't very, very certain of his ground, and by that I mean his 'legal' ground. Off we go !! Someone take the haribo off this guy. There’s positive and there’s you. Fair play

Doesn’t fit with Caulkin’s cryptic tweets though. His tweets are pretty clear. Talks have been going on behind the scenes. PIF came back to table. PL rejected the takeover and here we are What’s this suggestion then of the consortium being confident of approval and THEN this statement comes out, out of the blue? It’s all very weird. Eh? They were confident of approval. As the statement says “the Club providing the Premier League with overwhelming evidence and legal opinions that PIF is independent and autonomous of the Saudi Arabian government.“ The PL didn’t budge. Rejected it, so the club released the statement Not sure what you don’t get?

My view was that they probably were talking in the background but they wouldn’t find a way to get it passed as the PL wouldn’t budge on their stance and that’s proven to be the case, It’s now been officially rejected. I don’t get the crowing of the ‘it’s still on’ crowd. Bar a lengthy court case or appeal process at this moment the deal has been rejected. Dead

Seriously? Did you read the club's statement . . . "This conclusion has been reached despite the club providing the Premier League with overwhelming evidence and legal opinions that PIF is independent and autonomous of the Saudi Arabian government." "The club and its owners do not accept that Premier League chief executive Richard Masters and the Premier League have acted appropriately in relation to this matter and will be considering all relevant options available to them." Yes. I have read it. It will all depend on whether their lawyers think the case is winnable. The problem is that PIF is clearly not autonomous and independent of the Saudi Arabian government. I know it’s complete hypocrisy when compared to Man City etc. but hey this is Newcastle United, what do we expect? But do you not think he'd have taken that advice before making such a incredibly strong statement? "overwhelming evidence" saying the top guy at the Premier League has "acted inappropriately". It's pretty strong for someone who's not yet decided his position. Definately unless this is a knee jerk statement the lawyers have already indicated there is a case

YES indeed, this is what has been quietly going on (as it always should have been) behind the scenes. NO, this is very much the exact opposite of "over". This is what all of them (Ashley/Staveley/PIF/Reubens) have been waiting for, this is EXACTLY what they have been waiting for (if it wasn't an 'acceptance' of the bid) and now they can all get stuck in !!! Forget MESSI . . . this is going to be MESSY !!!!!!!!!!!! You are like a bairn that’s had too much sunny delight and haribo.
