If England can win a World Cup then Newcastle can win the Premiership.

Would prefer Upson than Carragher but its the line up i would have.

  Would like to see Defoe given a decent run out if we manage to take control in the first half.  Don't want to underestimate them, but they sound absolutely shit.  Lost 3-0 to Malawi at the last African Cup of Nations. 

They might still only need a draw if we don't get a few goals against Algeria.  All this draw has done is give Slovenia something to play for. 

 

They always have something to play for, they'll want to win the group like any other team.  The difference is if they'd won today they'd probably only need a draw to win the group.  I want Slovenia to need to win, makes then easier to break down.

If Ghana win, the prize for winning Group C could be a nice knockout game against Germany.  You don't have to be scared of Slovenia to realize that it's preferable to play a team who don't need a result. 

The flip side of Dave's argument is 'its fucking Slovenia - if you can't break them down when they don't need a fucking result then you might as well go home'

Why? We want to win the group, so us winning and the other teams not winning will help that.

If Slovenia had won here, England could still have won the group by beating Algeria and beating Slovenia.

The only thing a draw accomplishes is giving Slovenia something to play for in the last group game.

I just explained it.  If Slovenia win, then they have qualified.  They will have nothing to play for against England who (let's assume for now) hopefully have 4 points.  The only prize they would get for beating England would be a potential game against Germany.  England would only need a draw to go through, and potentially avoid Germany.

Could do with a draw here, like. But can't take cheering on the Yanks.

If Slovenia win here and England beat Algeria, then Slovenia have qualified.  They will go into their final game against England knowing that they are through and (if Ghana beat Australia) that beating England could only end up handing them Germany in the R of 16.  I think a Slovenia win sets up England nicely.

Slovenia win?  Sends them through, but an England win tonight + a draw next round would put England through.  A win in first.
