I couldn't f***ing wait for the game to end.

Germany is now Mexico, Argentina is Paraguay, and Mexico is Team USA.  You must be thrilled Mike.

I'd give Rooney 45 minutes up front on his own to redeem himself against Slovenia.  If we look like the same team as Friday, then I'd haul him off at half time and play Defoe/Crouch for as long as we remain in the tournament.

Just realized that England beat Slovenia 2-1 last September at Wembley.  The first XI that day was:

Green; Johnson, Terry, Upson, A Cole; Lampard, Barry; Wright-Phillips, Rooney, Gerrard; Heskey.

They were poor.  A few days later they thumped Croatia 5-1 btw.

Win or go home, am I right?

 

You draw, the us draws, they're through on goals scored.

 

You draw, Algeria wins, Algeria leap frog you into second.

 

Lose and obviously you're out.

 

So unless you have a goal filled draw, you have to win. 2-2 is the lowest scoring draw needed.

Can't believe we're in this position. Pathetic, just pathetic.

The position itself isn't that poor.  Beat Slovenia, ranked 25th, and advance to the round of 16.  The Group D picture is too complicated to guess who we'll play if we win the group or finish second.  The pathetic part is the team. 

I can't believe how bad Rooney was. I mean, everyone has an off day but this was a performance that would've looked bad at a local park. Not that he deserves to be singled out particularly but his performances have usually been the silver lining in past poor England performances. I'm worried. I genuinely think he might've bottled this one. And England has no other players who can take us to the final.

 

Did you really expect us to get to the final?

If they had been the same team that showed up in qualifying, they could have won this group and avoided playing anyone good until the semis.  Fluking a final was quite possible if they had managed average.

If we don't score early we're f***ed.

Agreed.  An England goal in the first 15-20 minutes could be the difference between a comfortable victory/return to form and going out.  They lack the testicular/psychological fortitude to break a team down and get a winner late on. 

Out on Wednesday I think.  Slovenia will play for a draw, frustration will build, Rooney gets sent off, Capello looks confused, whistle blows, Gerrard wipes his face with his shirt, looks dazed etc. etc.  All to script. 

The strangest thing for me is that Capello seems genuinely baffled by their performances.  They must be a completely different team on the training ground.  Something is just off on match days....the attitude, the mistakes, the body language.  I don't think this is a problem that can be fixed with tactics or swapping in Joe Cole. 

Very little interest in the games tomorrow.  Just want to get Wednesday over with. 

Getting knocked out on penalties in the knockout stages seems like a distant dream at this point.  It feels like we've been knocked out.

That is basically just bringing in a defensive midfielder for Heskey and asking them to play more narrow.

I can't believe Gareth Barry is escaping criticism here.  He was just as bad as Lampard or Gerrard, and probably worse since he gave up the ball in his own half.  He was woeful. 

Btw, if we go out , Rooney will more than likely be booed everywhere this season, starting with us 

And he will respond by scoring a scintillating hat trick, looking like the best player in the world.
