Pointless hypothetical, but would anyone be satisfied with something resembling the following compromise:
1. Ashley retains financial control of the club, but Moat increases his holding substantially, possibly with a view to a future buyout.
2. Llambas goes, and a new director is appointed. Someone with experience in football.
3. Shearer is appointed on a two year deal.
We get the manager most of us want, we get someone else running the club day to day, but Ashley doesn't sell up.
-
This is where I imagine a full-time manager would be helpful. To respectfully point out to Ashley, Moat and Barclays that perhaps we might need a few football players in this football club.

club expected to make an announcement about club making an announcement on Monday.
The club just made an announcement about the club's announcement on Monday being a non-announcement. Interested parties have until a Friday dead line to finalize their bids in the club. When that deadline passes, then we may be subject to a further announcement or non-announcement depending on the outcome. The Friday deadline and all subsequent deadlines are subject to revision. We thank you for your support, and look forward to working together in the interests of the football club for the speedy resolution of this matter. Hugs & kisses,
DL & MA.

Press release:
After months of trying to find a suitable buyer Mike Ashley has came to the conclusion that he will remain at Newcastle United BUT will sell a majority share to local millionaire Barry Moat (a front runner in the sale saga), Mr Moat was unable to secure the funds in full due to the current financial climate so an alternative option had to be sought, both Mike Ashley and Barry Moat agreed that this was the best and only way forward, Barry Moat intends to take over full control at a later date when cash flow fails to be a stumbling block.
I could quite easily see this scenario. No actual takeover, Ashley stays, but some cosmetic changes announced in the hopes of appeasing the fans.
-
Can we at least wait until we've lost a game before we start blaming everything on the (caretaker) manager again?
-
A few more acceptable alternatives?
1. "This job is OK, a bit overrated if I'm honest, and I'm a little out of my depth," said Hughton. "I personally can't wait until someone more qualified takes over."
2. "What am I doing here," laughed Hughton. "I mean seriously, thank god for Shola sparing my blushes, because nine times out of ten I don't have the slightest idea what is going on. Who are you?"
3. "I'm enjoying the challenge and happy to continue in an interim capacity," said Hughton. "But long term? Fuuuuuuuck off. I'd rather put my cock in a wood-chipper. Only a total lunatic would want to manage this club full time and I'm clearly not your man."
-
Btw, it was The Guardian who interpreted Hughton's comments in this fashion: not me.
So Louise Taylor is shit stirring? No way.
-
Jesus. He said nothing of the sort. Some of you people are as mad as the tabloids.
When the takeover happens, Shearer comes in, and Hughton gets a well done handshake. If it doesn't happen and we are faced with a choice between Hughton and whatever 'Remember the 90s?' managerial pick Ashley has up his sleeve, then I pick Hughton.
-
Desperately need some fresh legs if we're gonna win this one.
Especially this early in the season with fitness not 100%. I hope Hughton recognizes this.
It might be an idea to give Ranger or another of the youngsters a go in this fixture. Especially if the performance today was as tepid as everyone makes it sound.
-
It's plausible that both Moat & Shearer turned up simply to support the team, but it isn't like likely. They must read the papers, they can't be ignorant of PR, and they will know the signal their appearance will send to the supporters and the media. This will be over by the weekend.
-
I'm calling it. This is done. No way would Shearer be there otherwise.
er maybe he just wanted to watch the match
I really don't see it. Not with all the speculation and the questions. And with Moat there too and Ashley conspicuously absent.

Does anyone know roughly how much has been taken off the wage bill this summer?
-
This Fans 410 thing just seems like another publicity stunt, similar to the Profitable Group or the Nigerians last year. Get your name in the papers and job done.

Wednesday to win 1-0... The typical Newcastle way of letting us down after a good perfomance in the match before.
Feel like it's better to be pessimistic about this one and then maybe be in for a nice surprise. It's absolutely possible that the guys happily prove me wrong, but the feeling in my stomach is not good.
Sadly, I think you are right. Go behind early, optimism quickly turns into frustration, etc. etc.
But far more importantly, who is the girl in your avatar?
-
Why would Ashley be sitting next to Moat against Reading if there were two other prospective bidders? Nothing about this makes any sense.
-
Why would academy players (15 year olds) get told anything important and in confidence?
Having said, I hope this latest rumour is true because if it is over by Wednesday then this thread might just sneak in at under 500 pages.
-
I am noticing a strong correlation between improved, positive performances and Nicky Butt fucking off. I hope Hughton is picking up on it too.
-
Probably a consortium of tabloid editors and football 'journalists' who are worried that any resolution to this saga might leave them without a story to make up.
-
After this train wreck of a pre-season, I'll be extremely impressed if we get anything out of this. I'll say 0-0, which would be a good result. More realistically we'll get hammered.
-
Replacements?
We have NICKY BUTT man. NICKY BUTT. His experience alone is going to be worth between 35-55 points.
-
Guardian said he is backed by Americans, but that hasn't appeared anywhere else.
-
If he goes to Hull then he is dead to me.
RIP sale thread.
