  1. Ok, hypothetically if I wanted to get a shirt with bobby/robson on the back, what number would be appropriate?

    What about :

    Sir Bobby

    1933-2009

      Legend

Ask for the little numbers they put on the shorts .

Would be better if the club (or any of his other clubs) could put together an official shirt and give the proceeds to the SBR charity.

It's a cracking idea but I don't think it'll ever happen. A small % may go to the charity, but the club still relies on merchandising for a lot of its revenue. Just not practical sadly, although I would love to be proved wrong.

The FA could afford to do something similar perhaps.  A lot of people saw what he went through in the last couple of years and how hard he fought, I think you could raise a lot of money across the UK and even internationally.

  3. I can't think of any public figure that conducted themselves with so much dignity.  All his big successes, the defeats like the World Cup Semi and even in the end this horrible illness.  Everything was done with pride, and with class.  I've never felt prouder to support this team than when he was standing on the touchline.

You just knew that he cared deeply about every person he managed, everyone that supported him, every community he was involved in.  We'll miss you Bobby.

  4. Keegan.  He loves us really.  You just don't know him like we do. He just has this temper and.... It was for our own good really.  He just cares too much.  It will be different this time, he promised me. It has to be.  For the players.

  5. Man City Away

Nicest kit so far imo. Umbro have been very hit and miss this year . England and Man City away = Great , West Ham  = s***

    Man City win this thread.

  6. So someone on an internet forum heard that that the club might be sold to Americans, and then someone else conveniently heard that it might just be the richest man in America who is interested.

Even the rumours are disappointing.  At least make it realistic.

  7. wum

Not at all, I just think that people don't actually appreciate how much s*** (especially financially), we are actually in.

I don't think that's the case.  They are aware of it, it is just in the back of their minds.  Some people just don't like thinking about it and therefore lack a pessimistic imagination.  Delusions about Ameobi scoring 20 goals are nicer, so why bother with reality?  The biggest problem is how the Championship is being comically underestimated.

Then there are a few who think that expensive players = good players, and will never be shaken from that view point so long as there is a manager (or an interim manager) to blame it on instead.  There is nothing our squad can do to prove their shitness to these poor people, because we will ALWAYS be one managerial appointment away from sorting it all out.

  8. Article from The Guardian that is remarkably frank and informative ,and not in the least bit mocking

The article says to me: "I'm a crap journalist who can't find a way to write a real article, so I will instead submit a very amateur Q&A rough draft to my editor that nevertheless betrays my mackem bias with the ludicrous Roy Keane question at the end."

    Hopeless.  Caulkin > everyone else.

  9. Managerial record aside, I hope we keep H-u-g-h-t-o-n around as a coach.  He's been messed about over the last two years, and could quite easily have walked and found a job at a less self-destructive club.  But he has stayed, hasn't complained, and acted extremely professionally.  And although you can't tell much from a friendly, he seems to have the players showing the right attitude which is quite an achievement given the uncertainty and total lack of professionalism demonstrated by Ashley and his cronies.

  10. No chance tbh. Things are bad, bad enough to completely screw any chance of promotion, but we've got no chance of getting relegated.

Go back and re-read the first page of the 'Would you settle for 17th thread?'

  11. Coventry took Keegan's Newcastle team to extra time in the league cup way back in August of last year when we were still dreaming of Europe.  Our goal scorers were N'Zogbia, Milner and Owen.  Coventry City finished 17th in the league.

Is the Championship really as bad as some people here are making out?  Because the suggestion that our players are any better than the league finish they earned last season is laughable.

  12. If we get someone who's mega-rich I hope they're sensible and don't go down the pathetic and completely soulless Man City/Chelsea route. As long as they're not Ashley, I'll be happy enough. :-X

as long as they dont go the QPR route either, which wont get us promoted quick enough.

Well yeah, I just mean I'll be satisfied with us punching our weight and building a good team instead of just cherry-picking one. I know I'm in a minority here of course.

I've thought about it, and the vulgar, totally over the top instant success is exactly what I want to be honest.  I don't think it feels any better when you do it 'the right way'.

  13. Between now and next summer, Capello has to find a couple of in form strikers for the squad in addition to Rooney.  And if you can motivate Owen, he still has the instincts in front of goal.  I wouldn't completely discount the possibility that he could recapture some form and become the new Teddy Sheringham, for Man U and England.

Having said that, I agree with you and I don't think he will be in South Africa.  Not because he has lost the ability to play that role, but because he doesn't seem to care and his injury record is appalling.

  14. guys, its gut feeling time.....at this very moment, have we finally been sold?

No.  It will happen at the very last minute.  While other clubs are panic buying new players, we will be panic selling the club to the least desirable party still interested.  And we will end up with the Tore Andre Flo of investment consortiums, Chris Houghton in charge, and a farcical squad of O.A.Ps (Butt wearing the arm band), outrageously expensive failures and wholly inexperienced 15 year old academy boys.  The most likely outcome based on the last two years.
