  1. Oh it's £30m now last January not £20m haha.

    MYM 7m

    Debuchy 5m

    Sissoko 5m (?)

    Gouffran  2m

    Haidara 1m.

    Aye, that's 30m alright.

I think when reporting on Newcastle, transfer spending now includes wages over their entire contract

  2. If they bring in salary caps, they would also need to bring in caps on tickets, premium tv prices etc. Otherwise all you will see is the owners of the clubs making more money. Personally, I'd always rather the money went to the people I go to watch, rather than the owners, but maybe that's just the anti-capitalist inside of me.

  3. That part was worded wrong I admit, but it's when people say we're underachieving when all we're doing is the same as what we've done all our history pretty much.

At what point do we accept that "underachieving" is merely a way of hiding behind the fact we're pretty average when we think about it?

I think if we spent the £35m right, we might guarantee 7th at best, even without that I can see us pushing 8th-10th. Is it really worth spending that just for that? I'd sooner us be in a position where we can finish top-half this year and then be in a position where next summer the likes of Gameiro & Gervinho do consider us a good option, and even better make us a more attractable option for people to buy the club.

Just because we might be achieving our historical average does not mean that we are not under achieving, it simply means that we have under achieved throughout the last 50 years. We've had a long history of chairman who have been exactly the same as Ashley (except they were actually Geordies), who were happy to embezzle the club for every penny they could get. Given the size of the gates and the income they have brought in we should have been far more successful than we have been. Just because we have a long history of being ripped off doesn't mean we should be content with our lot now

  4. “The fans are used to bad news and players leaving – this is something we have to correct.

“The only way we can correct it is by success.”

I've only been used to it since he took charge

  5. Good luck Jose, best left back I've seen in my time supporting the club and I hope he finally gets the international recognition he deserves. Pity we couldn't match his ambitions!

  6. The whole point of him wanting to move is to get CL football. He wouldn't get that at Liverpool this year and, possibly, for the forseeable future.

If he goes to anyone it'll be Arsenal.

Not sure if Jose has ever said this, just what Pardew and the club keep coming out and saying. Pretty sure he just wants to sign for a club with ambition, looked like he was definitely going to sign a contract before we sold Carroll and he has shown no interest since then.

Can understand why Pardew doesn't come out and say that the lad is desperate to go and sign for a club who have ambition though.

  7. I can believe the bit about having the cheque for Rooney written out for £30 million, especially given Man United only paid £25.6 million for him

He doesn't say that in the interview to be fair. Have a listen.

Apologies, took other peoples quotes as given, would listen but think I'd be tempted to perforate both my ear drums after a couple of mins.

  8. More money than we ever dreamt of? No football dream I've ever had involved money, believe me. I don't get excited by signings, by bargains, by low wages or good fees. All I could give a f*** about is Newcastle winning on any given day.

Think this sums up my view perfectly.

  9. Maybe he shouldn't be saying any of this stuff, but I'd much rather hear Joey Barton talk than any other modern premier league footballer, at least he doesn't just come out with the usual banal comments taught to them by PR consultants.

  10. I am just amazed some people put so much stock in what Pardew says, he's yet to be proven right on a single one of his quotes from what I can work out.

  11. If a player wants to go or isn't sure about staying then that's often enough to take the edge of his game. Enrique hasn't been playing badly, but he hasn't looked quite the same player for the last couple of months. That's all.

We've got a wage policy and it looks like Enrique has been offered more by Liverpool. There's no point in having a policy if you're going to break it whenever a player tries to test it out.

I'm not sure Enrique's desire to move (assuming he has one) will have much to do with wages, he seemed happy to negotiate a new deal before the Carroll sale when the same wage restrictions were in place, think its the fact that he no longer sees the club's ambitions as matching his own and he feels he'll have to move to achieve them. We'll miss him badly as he's a top class player, but I will wish him well and don't think we should paint him as a mercenary purely concerned with his wage packet.
