I'd be very interested in an actual, valuable reply in the FFP thread, but looks like you'd rather stick to asking other people to put the hard yards in for you, then tell them continuously how wrong they are without providing any meaningful analysis yourself

Agree with most of that, but Huijsen is exactly the type of player we should be looking at for that position, i.e. a very promising albeit a bit raw central defender, who can already do a job and has the potential to be a starter long term. Every transfer carries a risk, but I think Huijsen at 12m will be seen as a bargain over time. He has the Spanish national team and the Dutch national team fighting over which he will represent in the future already (Spain winning).

Agreed, if the right player becomes available for the right price we will move. Equally I think realistically we will go without RW upgrade again if that opportunity doesn't come up, because, using your anology, it doesn't make sense in our position to panic buy a 20m player for 40m.

Firstly, the max allowed loss over a 3 year period is only part of the PSR rules that restrict us. Secondly, not only player trading feeds into that P/L, or more precisely our cost level has risen more significantly than our revenue level over the last few years, so a big chunk of that 70m people think we could now spend is already being spent on amortised transfer fees and wages of players and staff already here (amongst other things). We could perhaps afford a 60m transfer fee plus let's say 150k per week wages for one player, but we would very likely then have to sell players and/or increase commercial revenue significantly before PSR deadline day 24/25 to get back to a position of PSR compliance.

Are you a student per chance?

Perhaps read this post by timeEd32, then read TCD’s post again. Long story short, we can’t afford 60m Guler without sorting the financial deficit it would create further down the line later this season, before the 2025 PSR deadline.

I disagree. A player past their best and no longer integral to the team is past their peak value. If we are to compete, and as long as we remain severely hampered by lacking the commercial revenue to do so and have no manufacturing line of saleable talent from our academy, we have to trade players well as explained by Eales in January. This means sometimes take a step backwards in terms of quality on the pitch short term to allow for two steps forward a little further down the line. Star players may get badly injured and never recover, they may dip in form or they may refuse to extend their contract and for all those reasons their value may diminish. We should try to optimise every player sale, just like we try to optimise every player purchase.

Well, there is that too indeed. Important season coming up.
