  1. A sale with buy back option might suit them. Say 5Om (they triple their money inside a year) with a 100m buy back option. Might suit all parties if Guler was interested. Ah, who am I kidding? No chance whatsoever.
  2. People are just not prepared to entertain losing a crown jewel. It’s bound to happen sooner rather than later though. Guess Bruno would be more likely considering age and profile.
  3. Should have been in for him
  4. Oh aye, can’t imagine she’ll want to put in the hard yards like she has here, but if I were PIF I’d offer her/them a role in acquiring other clubs to their portfolio and perhaps overseeing the structure.
  5. Two footed, tenacious, technically gifted DM. What's not to like?
  6. Love this. Probably one for the youth thread. Looks a quite technical and two-footed DM based on some quick Dennis Wise-ing.
  7. If that source is correct we’re paying Targett and Kelly a combined 250k/week
  8. I love how you've just assumed when I speak about plans there are no underlying objectives to them
  9. Fantasic interview and can't thank them enough for what they have done. Wonder why they're seemingly not involved with PIF's expansion into a multi-club setup.
  10. As club management/ownership you'd make plans and those plans will be underpinned with assumptions such as provided by timeEd32. There may be alternative plans depending on how things transpire over the season (progress in CL, continue in Europe, qualify for Europe, new sponsors coming in and being approved by PL, a good bid coming in for Joelinton/Bruno/Isak or a few of our more expendable players, etc.) and you'd be prepared to be flexible and change between plans if needed. You cannot prepare "concrete solutions" beforehand without knowing exactly how a season will unfold. Also, "The primary contention from TCD and others is that Minteh should not have been sold." is simply wrong. TCD, I and others who are sad that it's had to come to selling Minteh and Anderson, have never argued he shouldn't have been sold. If you leave yourself exposed in such a way and none of your plans have come off desperate measures may need to be taken, which is of course defendable. Doesn't mean we should be happy it had to come to this. Eddie Howe is on record as regretting us having to sell Anderson, a player whom he rated. Is he allowed to say that, or should he come up with "concrete solutions" for tarie4 on the N-O forum, or alternatively STFU?
  11. Free transfer = high sign on fee + higher wages, but even so that is shocking if true.
  12. Jesus, a whole post with bulleted "things the board should have done differently" and you come up with a request for "concrete solutions"? You said earlier perhaps plans were made and fell through does not equate no or bad planning as a (correct) argument to TCD. How is that different to timeEd32's post above? The long and short of the situation is we ended up in a situation where we needed to panic sell on the final day of the reporting period to avoid a points reduction, which is not great management by any stretch of the imagination. As I've said before, based on Eales statements in January last year, if we want to continue our growth under these FFP rules we will have to sell a crown jewel from time to time when their value peaks, and reinvest that revenue in players with the potential to improve and become a crown jewel. We managed to get around doing this by selling Anderson and Minteh, thankfully, but it's still left us with little to reinvest due to our unsustainable cost level compared to our revenue (that is not growing fast enough to allow us to compete with the top six without vastly overachieving). Handing out improved contracts to crown jewels, much as the have deserved them, is only going to aggravate that situation.
  13. Minteh was ours though, and returning from loan. If he wasn’t in the squad he was a free incoming transfer in a position where we need reinforcement, it’s one or the other.
  14. We can’t spend 120m because our costs are too high relative to our revenue. Suggest you take in timeEd32’s post in the FFP thread.
  15. So what you said was wrong
  16. This post by timeEd32 is highly worth a read. Our issue most likely isn’t the available room based on player fees only, it’s that our cost level has shot up too and our revenue growth is having trouble keeping up to allow us to continue to invest and grow at the same rate as before. I think there is every chance we’ll be quite severely restricted this transfer window. In other words, PSR is working as designed for the so-called top six.
  17. There is a reason players run down their contracts (hint: $£¥€)
  18. Safe to assume Kelly's wages will be higher, and you're easily looking at a big signing on fee too. In reality Hall might be a bit more expensive over the duration of the contract, but not massively so. Then there is the potential residual/resale value to consider...
  19. I take the point that Minteh is unproven to a point. However, this is the sixth transfer window under new ownership. In the previous five windows I think it's fair to say most people expected us to bring in a right winger to replace Almiron, and it never happened. It is obviously not a position that has got prioritised. Much will depend on who this proven option is, what they would cost (not just fee but also wages) and whether they will actually even come to a club not in Europe. Then there is how you define "proven". Chiesa is proven, but he's also been injury prone, appears to have lost a bit of pace and may only go one way over the next few years, whereas with Minteh obviously some highly respectable clubs that bring youth through saw the potential for him to get to the level where we want to be or they wouldn't have offered/paid the money they did.
  20. Welcome to Newcastle-Online mate. It's been like that for the 20 or so years I have been on here and I doubt it will change anytime soon.
  21. You don't think a player Brighton and Dortmund were happy to shell out 35m for would have featured in our squad when we have Almiron and Murphy competing with him for position? FWIW I don't think he'd have been a first XI starter coming into the season, but he probably could have followed the Tino/Hall path of being eased in. Once again, I understand why we had to sell him, but I disagree with the suggestion he wouldn't have improved our squad. As said before, much will depend on what our RW position will look like when the window closes. If it is still just Almiron and Murphy like it has been the last six windows (despite everybody predicting differently) we will definitely have lost out due to this stupid PSR nonsense.
