Klopp wasn't elite either... until he was.

Completely ruling out the idea of managers improving, growing or being given the opportunity to prove they are elite. I'm sure there was a German version TCD on a Mainz forum way back when, harping on about Klopp and the errors he'd made.

Exactly! They all had their tough moments they had to come through, and there would have absolutely been those saying they weren't up to it at the time.

Ferguson was one loss from the sack at one point at Man Utd, with fans chanting against him.

These are his first few seasons at the club, as big as it is, and having spent money on decent players at the time ...

    11th

    2nd

    12th

    13th

    6th

    2nd

And then ultimately winning his first title.

Managers like Klopp, Fergie, Wenger who can build a team up and then maintain the status at the top are few and far between. We're all hoping that Eddie is another one but there is no evidence (yet) that he will be.

Fergie wouldn't even be a thing according to the way some of our fans are going on about Howe, as Fergie would have been sacked well before he really got Man Utd going, as it took him some time.

I always say it and I know others do. But Joelinton basically plays 2-3 positions at once. He plays like he has aggression 20 on his FM stats and is always chipping away at the ref, the opposition, anyone within ear shot.

I definitely feel like he has plenty of qualities you can see and quantify. But also loads of intangibles.

Every time we play against a mate’s team. They all comment on what a beast he is and that they didn’t quite realise how dominant he could be at times.

Fuck lining up against him in midfield  but if you had the slightest bit of athleticism. I think you’d look at the current 3 and fancy yourself in a battle against them. Assuming you’re a prem level midfielder, of course

He is the tone setter and heartbeat of the team. He's been a massive miss.

Had the misfortune of reading the comments on his Insta post after the game.

Wonder how many of them were happy to belt out 'Support the team. Not the regime'

Cannot believe people go on these players pages and abuse them for poor performances.

I mean .... can we then really complain when they are so poor out there? These fans are partly culpable.

These players need to seriously consider not having social media or at least keep it all private.

  5. From the match I saw last night Bruno was playing in midfield alone, fighting for his life and taking on all responsibility.

Willock tried a few things but just isn't anywhere near sharp enough yet, and so was mostly absent. Longstaff's form has completely fallen of a cliff and he might as well have been playing for Blackburn at times. Miley tried when he came on but wasn't able to have any impact.

This is affecting both our attack and our defence at the moment as the midfield is not building up play well enough to create enough for the forwards, and at the same time is not protecting the defence either.

All this talk of playing a strong team is good and all, but it really isn't translating on the pitch at the minute. I don't know how we can rectify this with the state Longstaff and Willock are in currently.

Wolves have been looking full of energy lately and have been playing well. They are brutal in transition.

I'm not looking forward to the game at all.

I'm still hopeful that Hall will come good, he has the ability.

I really liked what I saw of him at Chelsea albeit in just a couple of games. I think he will come good.

He’s got enough credit built up so that recent performances will be met with a general apathy.. there’s no genuine anger yet but there will be.

If we’d played like that with Steve Bruce as manager, there’d be multiple posts of cabbages and die in a house fire type rants.

But that’s how bad we’ve been playing lately.

If we'd played like that under Bruce it would have been one of our best performances of his tenure.

I’ve watched enough of our away games to think that ten men back has been a regular tactic this season.  And what I just witnessed wasn’t dissimilar to a ‘Steve Bruce’ NUFC performance.  Bruce is a vastly inferior manager to Howe, so the comparison is ultimately moot - but I can’t be arsed with head-patting for good performances and excuse-making for repeatedly shite ones.

Sorry, but I can't take anyone comparing performances to anything under Bruce seriously.

  9. Just now, TheBrownBottle said:

You know, ‘better than Steve Bruce’ isn’t exactly a mark of quality.  And Ashley’s running of NUFC was a shambles, not a benchmark.  Those of us who supported the club in the ‘80s and ‘90s didn’t spend half our days wanking on about ‘remember how shit 90-91 was’ everytime KK’s side had a bad run and drew some criticism.

Howe deservedly got plenty of credit in the previous year and a half.  What’s being put on at the moment isn’t acceptable.  It doesn’t make you a superfan to put the blinkers on

Nothing we have done this season comes close to the absolute vomit produced under Bruce. I will never accept that. We had ten men in our box all game and Joelinton 50 yards up the pitch. We couldn't even get up the pitch most games.

No thanks, as a ST holder throughout I'm still acutely aware.

That was seriously bad though, can't see a pattern of play other than ponderous passing, running down bling alleys or chasing over egged balls over the top.

Through in the cup though so:occasion14:

Longstaff and Willock look like they are going to take a while to get back up to speed and the form of last year, which is seriously bad news.

We definetly looked like we lacked confidence tonight, but its natural after getting absolutely cunted at the weekend.

Schar and Longstaff had absolute stinkers.

Schar and Longstaff were trolling tonight.

Schar dwelling on the ball just so he could then pass sideways or backwards for them to pressure us all night, and if not that then passing it 5 yards forward into Longstaff with a man right on him to give it away.

    Disgusting performances from both.

Someone made a post in here saying someone close to him says he's terrified of getting sold in the summer - I believe it.

Even during last year, he constantly talked about Howe assuring him of his role at the club, how important he is to the team etc. Must have zero self belief in himself. Sad really.

I've always maintained he is better than he thinks he is.

Always looks like he's unsure of himself and that's what ends up affecting his performances more than anything.

Seriously needs to get over it and just focus on applying himself on the pitch.

His job is save for now, but the higher ups are watching closely. Heard some rumour they already talking with Tuchel, don't quote me on this.

Tuchel is about to end up with no trophies at the easiest club to win at least one trophy in all of football.

    Great choice.

  14. All the progress made last year and he gets injured and ends up back at square one.

Incredibly infuriating player when he is back to his deer in headlights panicky state.

Have some self belief man and for goodness sake bend your knees and stop playing so upright and stiff.

  15. I do not envy this guy one bit.

So many players look void of form and the team has no rhythm or flow to it at the minute.

Not looking forward to the game at the weekend at all.
