You don't understand the word rolling? So 22, 23,24 is one block. Next year it's 23,24,25 . It's seriously not difficult. Did you sleep through forest and Everton getting done?

Fair enough. Now guys, if you're going to deliver shots like this when I misunderstand something, please no complaining when I do it in future, okay? Because for some reason no one remembers this when I do it!

Okay so we won't have another 3 years of leeway, but still it opens up bit more time, and the Minteh money is not being swallowed up by the money spent on DCL, because they don't count against the PSR in the same way, correct?

Very much this. If selling minteh allows us to bring in real top class winger I’ll suck it up. If it’s done to bring in DCL i just can’t get excited about it

PSR is done in three year cycles. This June 30th is the end of a 3 year cycle. Selling Minteh is to pass the current 3 year cycle of PSR. Doing the deal with Everton also helps them do the same, while also getting a player the club value in DCL. We are not selling Minteh in order to buy DCL!

This then means from July our spending power opens up again and gives us another 3 years of time to make sure we fall within PSR, and so we can spend quite freely and have a much longer time period to balance the books etc, which will include getting more commercial deals and all that stuff.

Having then passed the current PSR period, it will mean from July 1st we can spend a pretty significant amount of money, depending on how much the club has decided to budget for the summer, and how much they want to push the boat out.

Again, we are not selling Minteh, in order to spend the funds on DCL!

You would hope we have a reasonable buy back/ sell on clause. In that case it’s probably a good solution to tick a few boxes. Young player gets game time in the league, helps PSR and we get either a % of future sale or the option to bring him back.

Have to say if I were Minteh I’d be unimpressed with us and generally it’s farcical that we have to act this way.

We bought him from a Danish club and gave him incredible exposure on loan at Feyenoord.

He's going to end up on probably ten times the salary he was on when we picked him up.

I doubt he's unimpressed. I'm sure he understands the process.

    And scored how many?

You do realise we aren't signing the Everton playing squad and coaching staff along with him right?

Once again I remember all the quotes stating how few goals both Isak and Gordon had scored the season before joining us.

You sign a player for their attributes and what they will add to your team and style of play, and how they will perform in your setup.

His biggest mistake in Bournemouth was signing bang average players English players for a lot of money and so far when you follow who we are currently linked with it seems to be the same pattern, lets hope come the end of the window we are proven wrong.

Yeah, I agree. He was really bad for Bournemouth. I'm sure they wish they'd never had anything to do with him.

Just got to hope that the deals we’re looking at now are squad fillers at reasonable prices to allow a marque player or two to come in after the ffp deadline is done.

I think we've shown our intent with the effort to go for Olise.

Key point being missed this.  I suspect that the Tonali transfer will have further fueled this as a concern, too (not looking to bring up whether or not we should have known etc).

    Yeah, it certainly didn't help.

That issue with Tonali, essentially cost us at least the Europa League place, and probably a Champions League place even, if he had really performed to what the club was expecting.

I'm slowly coming round to this prem proven idealogy that the club seems to prefer. We'll go for prem unproven this window but I suspect they will all have pedigree that players like Minteh don't.

Next season is arguably our most important season and ensuring we're getting CL, it's finances and the profile associated with being CL club is probably our most important factor for the growth of this club.

We can of course find a million and one players who might be better and more exciting but pushing for that CL target will be much more difficult with a squd of 5-6 gambles.

This is a big part of these kinds of moves, trying to ensure we can consolidate a position in the top 4 or at least the European places consistently, by building up the squad with a number of players that can do the business in the league.

Thanks to the Mike Ashley years we have very little room for error. Any major busts in the market and we are screwed big time, because they won't be easy to rectify by just going and buying someone else.

How are people going to justify a fee north of £20m to themselves? Looking forward to the mental gymnastics.

We paid £25 million for a 30 year old Chris Wood, that is not as good a player.

Talk of £20 million for any Premier League striker that has had any kind of previous success in the league is fanciful, never mind one that is still just 27 years old and has also previously featured for the national team, and so prepare to be disappointed.

Best case scenario, even in the last year of his contract is likely to be £25 - £30 million I'd imagine.

Onana’s passing has been way better than I’m used to seeing at Everton. Maybe that’s the best indicator of why his game has looked poor at times, because the players around him usually are awful

He looks breathtaking at times in that midfield.

I can kind of see why Arsenal have been linked with him as a replacement for Partey.

A few years of refinement at a better club, and he could be scary.

I think you’re right re: value. When we’ve bought from these shores, we’ve extracted good prices (Wood aside). Not sure how they would stack up against similarly rated players from other leagues, but we haven’t been take to the cleaners for players from the U.K.

Yes, this is the thing. We mostly do our key business in that £30 million to £40 million range, whether at home or abroad, and we've been very good at it.

We've then gone bigger twice, and both times it was for players we thought were exceptional and they were both from abroad, in Isak and Tonali.

I don't think many clubs have bettered us in the transfer market since the new owners came in, and so it's difficult to understand some of the negativity and scepticism.
