  1. Flaminin would be a good pickup, and he isn't actually being released by Wenger. Flamini himself asked to leave because he wanted more opportunities to play his real position which is centre midfield.

Flamini does have great potential. He is an Owen Hargreaves kind of player. Great energy, drive, determination and stamina with good all around skills.

Flamini would not come here though if he is again just going to be a utility player. He wants first team football.

  2. Geremi could be a decent utility player on the cheap.

good back up for right-back, plus a class right foot

in other words, he would be a good backup for Carr...

tbh it will difficult for Geremi to dislodge Carr out of this position...

    Carr is solid

    Have I been whooshed here?

    Or are you actually serious?

    O Lordy!

  3. I'm pretty sure we have agreed not to raid Bolton for their players, which is why things have been so amicable. We will be raiding them for a couple of their staff that Sam has to have with him and we will pay compensation for this but that will be it.

The only player we might bring in from Bolton will be Anelka because they were already willing to let him go and as long as we match the best offer they receive for him then we will get him if Owen/Martins go.

Nolan won't happen inmy opinion, especially as he is their captain! Instaed Sam WILL get in Sidwell (I can feel it in my waters). If by some miracle this doesn't happen we will probably see someone like Reo-Coker come in, who Sam was considering moving for while with Bolton. Reo-Coker would be great under someone like Sam, especially when out of London and away from all his knuckle head pals.

So, Anelka maybe ... but not Nolan, but instead Sidwell/Reo-Coker.

  4. For the 1 millionth time he will end up at Newcastle I tell thee ...

Sidwell is no fool. If he was ready to come here ahead of Chelsea while Roeder was in charge, there is no way in hell he will not come here if Sam shows him that he wants him and will have a first team place for him.

Sidwell to Newcastle is nailed on in my opinion.

Well if that true, its all the more reason to get shot of Parker, in my opinion - if indeed the bid and figures being bandied about from West Ham are anywhere near accurate.

Butt has shown more captain like qualities this season, and this week than Parker has done.... And its clear they can't play together.

    Suppose we'll see what occurs!

Good point about Butt this week.

Isn't it amazing how quiet Parker has been since the season ended and even to some extent Shay Given.

With all that's gone on, only Butt and Harper have stood up and said something about it all.

    Rather dissapointing really ...

  6. So if this supposed clause is real, does that mean any club could have offered £9m the day after we signed him, and we'd have to accept the offer?

If rumours circulating down here are true, there were figures of £12m at year 1, £9m or £9.2m at year 2 and £4m or £4.6m at year 3.  They are only rumours so I've no idea if there is any truth in them at all.

    What?

    £4million?

    Get rid asap please!!!!!!!!

  7. Can you see that Owen thread?

Hey whats the big idea buddy?

You definitely don't want none of my cyber Kung-Fu pal trust me!

    :knuppel2:

  8. The best thing I have heard so far, and its about time more people realised that no player is bigger than the club!

If Owen really wants to stay then great let's get things back on track, but if not let's move on without him  and become better anyway.

Sam is really impressing me right now. Hasn't been here for more than a few hours and he isn't being vague or beating around the bush. Saying it like it is and like it should be.

    Enjoy ...

Allardyce lands an early blow in the battle to keep OwenGeorge Caulkin

Sam Allardyce arrived on Tyne-side by helicopter yesterday, the same mode of transport that ushered Kevin Keegan towards retirement as a player. On this occasion, the centre circle at St James’ Park was not used as a landing pad and the stadium was empty, but for those Newcastle United supporters seeking positive omens it was a decent start. “I was s****ing myself,” Allardyce said.

Allardyce is relishing the opportunity to follow Keegan into management at Newcastle and fear was a fleeting emotion, although players would be well advised not to get too comfortable. A rigorous system of fitness, exercise and technological developments will be implemented at Newcastle, but Allardyce is not averse to banging heads together.

Addressing fractured discipline will be a key task as the 52-year-old embarks upon his three-year contract, worth an estimated £3 million a year. As Freddy Shepherd, the chairman, put it yesterday, at least one Newcastle player “wants his backside smacked” – Charles N’Zogbia – while others may need their egos massaged. As of last night, Michael Owen’s status was unclear.

After Shepherd’s outburst last week, when he stated that Owen should “come out and tell our fans he is happy here” after reports linking the England striker with Liverpool and Manchester United, there has been no contact between player and chairman. Owen was in Ireland yesterday and has not spoken to Allardyce.

His future is uncertain, but the fact is that Owen, 27, will return for preseason training at Newcastle on July 2, if neither United nor Liverpool have triggered a £9 million release clause in his contract.

From Shepherd’s perspective, however, an emotional commitment is required from Newcastle’s £16 million record signing and a coolness has developed.

“I haven’t heard from Michael, but he wouldn’t have signed in the first place if he didn’t think this was the place to be,” Shepherd said. “If 20,000 people coming to see him that day didn’t make his mind up, nothing would. I hope he stays. He’s a great player and I’m quite happy relationship-wise, but he has to make his mind up about what he wants to do.”

Allardyce echoed that request for clarity. “I’ll speak to Michael in the near future,” he said. “The speculation will be resolved as soon as possible. You wouldn’t want to lose your leading goalscorer and I hope he’s part of the future here, but until I speak to Michael, I don’t know what he’s thinking. He’s a big player, but it’s not all about Michael.”

For other players, “Big Sam” may need the big stick. Obafemi Martins and N’Zogbia caused consternation at Watford last weekend after effectively refusing to appear on the substitutes’ bench. “Oba has said it was a misunderstanding, but with Charles it was absolutely ridiculous,” Shepherd said. “A young man like him trying to play the big star – he should do it on the field before trying to do it off it.”

It is not a scenario that fazes Allardyce, who resigned as Bolton Wanderers manager on April 29. “If there’s unrest in the dressing-room, it’s my job to resolve it,” he said. “The only way this team will get success is if everybody fights for each other.”

Long term, there are loftier aims. “This is an opportunity not only to manage at a big, big club, but also to break into an area which seems untouchable,” he said. “With the right resources, foundations, back-room staff and players, there’s no reason why Newcastle shouldn’t be able to challenge those top-four boys.”

Having missed out to Steve McClaren, Allardyce has no designs on the England coaching job – “there’s no [release] clause in my contract,” he said – and the money that Shepherd has saved in recent days (“we did not pay Bolton compensation”) can be invested elsewhere. “It’s my job to buy players better than what we’ve already got and hopefully with a few more bob than I’ve had before,” Allardyce said.

  9. Will end up at Newcastle I tell thee ...

Didn't you say a joint press conference today? ;)

Couldn't fit the lad in the helicopter with Big Sam that's all. Will happen soon enough.

    O0

  10. The reasons I believe this too be true are because all the signs point to it. As mentioned above Given and Butt have spoken of it today as well.

Even n Roeders last game they couldn't do him the courtesy of coming out to do the lap of honour as he requested. Carr told him to fuck off and wen running down the tunnel!

    It really is disgusting.

  11. Parky, your right, maybe the thread title and my initial post is too harsh on Roeder, but he shouldn't have stood for this crap.

I am more angry with the players, but just so damn dissapointed in Roeder as he should have called them out at the time and had them disciplined regardless of who they were.

We really do have a bunch of punks on this team, as soon as Roeder stood for one of them pulling htis kind of stunt they were all going to have a go.

    Infuriating really.

  12. With all of this coming to light, I think we can consider ourselves lucky we didn't get dragged into a relegation battle considering how unstable the club appears to have been this season.

You could even argue we have taken a step back since Souness as far as the behaviour and attitude of the players goes anyway.

Could you imagine the likes of Nobby pulling a stunt like that with Souness? A drop kick to the head from Souey would have righted him straight away.

  13. KaKa - if this was in the Chron, does that mean it's also on icNewcastle? And if so, can you please provide a link?

I feel like I'm not getting the whole story here...

It was in the Oba goes AWOL story ... apparently Craig Moore was always swanning off to Scotland too, but nothing appears to have been done about it.

  14. Out of order. It is widely acknowledged GR did his best but ulitmately it wasn't good enough. I can't see any reason for this kind of mudslinging.

It's frustrating though because it has led to the mishandling of N'Zogbia.

Didn't want to deal with the asenior players getting in his face if Duff was dropped and so he drops Charlie even though he deserved his chance?

That is out of order too.
