I dont have the answer, but isnt dropping him after player of the month award a setup to fail? He doesnt deserve to be dropped at all.

No it isn't. He's a young player that came in and covered due to injuries, as is his role at the minute.

I am not as convinced of him defensively for him to be a starter going forward, with far more experienced and better defenders at that position available.

The sad thing about all this is should he start there and make some errors at the back, people will be on his back straight away.

I’m more saying Hall doesn’t deserve to be dropped tbh. I don’t think he will be either.

But then why would he drop Burn then?

If you go back to when we signed Hall, he was spoken about as one for the future.

He's 19 and has had a nice showing at season's end filling in for injuries, which was great.

I don't think this makes him a starter over far more experienced players that aren't scrubs.

We'll see what happens, but can't help but think the kid is being setup to fail. Not sure what the hurry with him is.

Not trying to force it, he did well when given a chance last season. He’s also playing a full part in pre season. We should be getting Burn out the side imo. Kelly CB next to Schar, Hall LB.

Burn has been brilliant at centre back and has a really good partnership with Schar.

It would be forcing it, dropping him for Lewis Hall man.

Burn and Kelly shouldn’t play as LBs in my humble opinion

Wish people would stop comparing Kelly to Burn at left back.

You couldn't have watched him play there to make this kind of statement. And so why?!

Would be like complaining about Nathan Ake playing at left back.

I mean, Kelly hasn't kicked a ball for us so I'm not sure why he'd be above Hall in the pecking order as of right now either.

Agree with your general point though, there's a fair chance Kelly will be seen as as deluxe version of what Burn was at LB, being more capable of holding his own when getting forward but still offering the extra defensive quality that you maybe don't get with Hall there.

Could see Eddie maybe viewing Hall as a LCM in his system.

It's just a different level of experience, physicality and athleticism. He's also good on the ball still and gets up and down the line.

Also Howe already knows him well and knows exactly what he brings to the table. Kelly vice versa knows exactly what Howe expects of him also.

It would be very surprising if Hall starts IMO. I may be wrong though, and so we'll see.

The way I see it, Hall is very young and inexperienced. His time will come and he'll still get opportunities to play, as Kelly isn't one you want to be running into the ground anyway.

  6. Kelly is not some stiff centre back and make shift left back that can't get forward.

Not sure why the clamour for Hall to start before seeing Kelly play.

From what I've seen of Kelly, I'd be very surprised if Hall starts ahead of him.

  7. Because of how awful Bruce was, we couldn't hire a Sporting Director prior to getting a manager in, which would have been the ideal way of going about things.

Howe came in first and settled into a way of working with Amanda and Mehrdad acting as defacto sporting directors, that essentially let him operate however he wanted.

On top of that Howe's history coming through at Bournemouth, is one where he had to take on a lot and have control over a lot of areas, and where he did delegate it was to people he was close with and knew well.

Ultimately, this way of working is not going to work at a bigger club, or one aiming for that kind of standard at least.

We'll soon find out if he is able to adjust or not. If not he'll have to work at clubs that are willing to let him run/control the whole show, and these are increasingly few and far between, and lower down the table.

Can't help but feel like he will be this Summer's Minteh. Could be the only time we actually see him in a toon top.

Was interesting watching Howe talk about Minteh yesterday.

Seemed very much a move out of a short term necessity, and not some sort of strategy.

Mitchell's comments about internal recruitment being a long term goal, also don't align with that Chelsea type model.

We will see a number of these guys come through if they are good enough.

What’s the motivation for him to leave Arsenal? He’s 16, surely he has a route through if he keeps developing? Maybe he has issues with the coaches there or just wants some serious dollar. Just feel like being at a very good academy at a club who are challenging for the premier league seems like an odd foundation for wanting to get out

Other clubs might be promising him and even quicker pathway to play if he's really good.

That other kid they have Nwaneri, looks very talented and is the best of their prospects, and he barely gets a sniff.

Thought it was a loan, in which case they’d have seen at close quarters he’s made of Super Noodles and paper mache and said ‘no mas’.

Was it? Can't 100% recall now.

Thought it was a permanent transfer.

It's the standard short term memory stuff.

The strange thing with Wilson is that he didn't really seem to be willing to embrace a more secondary role despite all the injuries.

I just didn't get the reasoning in keeping him really, at least we will have to bring someone in now, and he really can't have any complaints.

Once he is back up and running he'll likely be third choice, so he'll have to accept that.

  13. This whole Wilson thing is going to be the case with Arsenal fans as well this season, regarding Partey.

There were people over there quite glad that he's supposedly staying. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Absolutely mortifying!

Their tears will soon come too.

He and Wilson must be related.

  14. There were people in here saying they'd be fine with going with him and Isak again this season.

I could not believe what I was reading at the time.

This man can no longer be counted on at all, unfortunately.

No one is likely to buy him now either, and so we're likely going to have to let his contract run down.

At least now we know for certain that we have to sign another forward of decent standard to back up Isak.

Not many names jump to mind that would fit well at NUFC.

    Who’s on your list?

The interesting thing is that if you look back to when we were first linked with Mitchell in March, there was also talk of lists of potential replacements for Howe also being drawn up at the time, which I thought was weird.

I think that may have been true after all. Only because there's a chance the ownership may have been annoyed by the issue with Howe and Ashworth, and were positioning themselves to clean house if necessary.

If you Google it the main name being bandied about at the time was Mancini. But pretty certain there's a list of other candidates. That will be a part of Mitchell's remit.

Managers almost always have finsl say on transfers mind.

Yeah, ideally the Sporting Director oversees the approach to identifying players e.g. Mitchell talked about using data to further inform more traditional scouting.

This was something we were apparently looking for, to modernise our scouting, which was still not very data driven.

And so, with that now being introduced, it could mean some players are rated or ranked differently now.

In any case, a list of players should be made available for the manager to then select from.

I've always thought that was a fair compromise, but some managers might not necessarily feel that way.

Away from transfers I would imagine the performance director is one area Howe was certainly alluding to. Be very interesting how that dynamic works with him and Bunce.

    Yeah, absolutely.

I remember reading about Mourinho being annoyed with their recommendations, and over ruling them at times, which led to some players playing with injuries, and suffering for It. It can be a sticking point.

I think it's something we really need though, and so hopefully, Howe is open minded about it.

That interview with Bunce he constantly emphasized working closely with the manager, and making his life easier. Think he was making an effort there to ease some concerns.

  18. 6 minutes ago, Danh1 said:

Think you’ve nailed it. PIF have ultimately been unhappy with last season and blamed AS and MG. Pressure on next season.

Don't think it would have necessarily been a case of being unhappy with the season in itself and blaming AS and MG for that.

More so not being happy that the Sporting Director and Head Coach were not working well together and it was not in the best interest of the club really pushing on.

And so if it meant them having to move on then so be it. And now the reality is that if issues persist there, then Howe will likely have to move on too.

  19. 49 minutes ago, BermyToon said:

Agreed. Would like Eddie to be a little more flexible with squad rotation to prevent injuries. Don't think it will be a problem this season with us being out of Europe.

I wasn't one of them, but it's a point people on here raised numerous times and were frustrated with, and they felt it wasn't helping with the injuries. They may have been right.

The Performance Director has clearly been brought in with the remit to get a handle on managing player optimization, and now the whole situation is going to be monitored more closely.

If players need more rest and recovery, and more rotation needs to take place, it will be made clear to Howe, and he'll need to adjust.
