Such an incredibly dogshit effort this from Man City

This is the nonsense they were doing when Man Utd did them on the counter to win the cup and knock us out of Europe.

This passing it square and letting the centre half’s have shooting practice is hilarious. Surely pep is better than this

    I can't believe it [emoji38]

Why don't they try and get to the byline and twat in some low crosses.

Might at least deflect off someone and go in or something.

Hmm. I thought he blew the whistle literally right before the kick? Or am I wrong?

Some truth in this, but the manner in which he launched it into the stratosphere did him in.

What can you do, though? Even Madrid did it. Think Valverde said “City are the best team in Europe” after beating them.

    I know.

I just dread what it means for us if a team as good as Arsenal don't even feel confident playing more freely against them.

I'm a little disappointed that Howe seems to be unwilling to adapt to the new situation, too. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes but I've been told by a few people that he's a control freak and wants to essentially be in charge of everything from a footballing perspective. He seems like a bright and driven guy, he should surely be smart enough to see that if he wants to manage at a really top club he's gonna have to make some compromises?

I mean ... this is just so disappointing really. The Bournemouth guy on here said the same thing about Howe after we got him initially.

We had a headstart with the managers compared to Villa, since we got Howe a year or so before they got Emery

But their club was way ahead of us in terms of the academy, selling Grealish, others etc which has helped FFP

They have also managed the FFP situation way better than us, flipping players, more dodgy deals etc

They also sold their best midfielder and opted to recruit an array of players, giving them depth, again something we don't and haven't done, we prefer to add a backup / future signing, or an expensive one

They've also recruited well from lower placed teams / champo teams, Archer and Duran look quality and will no doubt be valued highly if they want to sell them

As for Howe V Emery. I really rate Howe, and maybe blind bias but I always refer to the first 1.5 seasons as what he does for us, and think it will get better. Though Villa do play a more sustainable style of football, and don't need to overpower teams to win. That can only help over the long term, plus managing injuries etc

    100%.

Don't forget they also added Kamara and Tielemans as free signings.

They haven't even had Kamara available, and him coming back will only make them stronger.

They actually make me feel sick.

We can’t debate those same signings forever man, come on. If we didn’t have Tonali now we would be saying we’re desperate for a midfielder, and same with Barnes and someone who can score us a goal. They were great signings.

    Good players, sure.

In my opinion though, they were inappropriate signings for where we were at the time.

The squad planning has been poor and the balance of the team has suffered for it.

Gravenbach looks miles better than anything we've got in midfield.

£35 million. It's looking like great business. He's been brilliant.

We spent almost double that on Tonali. The way things are going this season we are going to need Tonali to be truly exceptional to turn things around for us.

Really hope it works out that way.

I don't think Howe sees a defensive midfield player as something he wants or that fits into his philosophy. Maybe if we had the money to go out and get a Rodri it wouldn't matter, but we have to work within the constraints we have and we could have got a defensively minded midfield player in to plug that gaping hole.

We keep hearing from Howe that there is a very small pool of players to pick from that can improve us.

And then you watch some of our players and performances and you really have to wonder about that.

I think we're in trouble. Things move very quickly.

Nice start to the season due to a favourable schedule and thankfully we got a nice number of points.

Now the games are going to start getting tougher. Let's see how we manage it.

It’s mad to be talking about teams ‘leaving us behind’ when we’ve gone from battling relegation to battling for Europe.

    Very strange perspective IMO.

Once we got top 4 we really had to do a better job of capitalising on that last summer. Especially while Chelsea, Spurs and Man Utd were such a mess.

We spent £140 million on 3 players. Tonali, Barnes and Tino. Three positions that didn't need filling necessarily in the first team at the time.

Also with a better approach could that money have been spread out more evenly across the squad? I think it could and should have been.

We ended up with no European football and instead of nailing the summer recruitment to ensure we capitalized on less games this season, we blew it completely.

We spent the first part of the window bidding for Olise, and then no one else in that position after, and then doing the same with Guehi later on.

We currently have no right winger, no backup striker, no holding midfielder that protects the defence, no clarity at left back and a number of squad players that are below par.

We look uninspired, stale and tired. I think the season is going to be a struggle.
