I'm interested to see if we have changed tack on alternatives this season. Last time round Howe seemed to intimate that the pool of players we were interested in was very small, and he was reluctant to trade down from his targets. I think he would prefer to pay what it takes to get his preferred choices in and might veto players he's not that keen on.
Well if other clubs are signing his preferred targets because they are able to spend more or pay more in wages, we'll have to look elsewhere. No other choice really.

Nkunku and Felix have flopped somewhat, and Jackson isn't really top tier. It's not that outrageous when you think about it.
They haven't moved them on though. They're still on the books.
How many other clubs just keep stacking players up like this? It's ridiculous

For what its worth and taking into account the unreliability of much of the reporting into transfer links that we are reading, this seems a very unoriginal predictable group of players we are interested in. They are all overpriced and as soon as there is competition for them we apparently can't afford them. Mbeumo, Delap, Cunha if we were interested, and possibly Pedro if Chelsea really want him. Trafford we will probably get as there is little or no competition though we are going to overpay for him no doubt. Elanga is overpriced at 45m and Forest want much more.
It makes you wonder why you would have so many scouts and whatever if this is the best they can come up with. Virtually everyone on this forum could have come up with the names of the players we have been linked with so far.
Hopefully as we go into July we will see some new names we are linked with the dont already play in the premier league and cost 60 million quid.
I think it's fair enough to at least try for these guys first as a priority, because we believe their Prem experience means they will have a quicker impact.
If it doesn't pan out then go for the alternatives.
There was an article this week that said the club had set a soft deadline to move on to other targets eventually.
Think it was a week from this coming Monday.

Only just seen Chelsea wants both Gittens AND Pedro?!!!
Despite already having Jackson and Delap.
With Nkunku and João Felix still on their books.
My God man. This is well past ridiculous.

That just shows he hasn't featured there much so far in his career though, right?
I think there's a bit too much of a focus on positions rather than the roles the players play and what they're being asked to do.
Just because a player starts on the right, doesn't necessarily mean he is going to be playing as a touchline winger.
Two examples from this past season were Morgan Rogers at Villa who featured on the right in a good number of games for them, despite having not really played from that position before, and it was the same with Desire Doue at PSG.
Both right footed attacking midfielders that had the freedom to find spaces to impact the game from that right side.

Palmeiras vs Botafogo has started off really well.
Benfica hopefully sending Chelsea home later.
England vs Germany final in between too.
Decent day of footie if anyone wasn't aware!

That's what I was thinking, otherwise they might have been looking at him as a number 10/CAM, but doesn't Palmer play there? In either case he'd be sitting on the bench for them.
Yeah, it's that left side they're prioritising at the minute.
Gittens appears to be the one they really want there.
As for the number 10, they do play Palmer there as the starter. And seen them linked with Harvey Elliott recently as an option there.
-
Think Chelsea were looking at him as a wide forward on the left, but have since prioritised Gittens instead?
Don't think they're still after him as much.
Especially as he isn't a previous Man City academy kid, which appears to be their latest obsession.

New non update klaxon 🥱 all parties agree the move “should be completed” wtf does that mean
Usually means just need to agree minor details on the add ons or the payment structure, if there's any truth to that.

Takes big money to get players out of these so called "smaller clubs" nowadays, and fair play to them.
Think it's going to continue to make the league more and more competitive, as they'll either keep their players, or have a ton of money that could potentially push them further on if they nail their recruitment, which a lot of them are increasingly tending to do.
Bournemouth in particular will be very interesting this summer. They'll lose a few of their better players, but they're going to have a boat load of money to play with.
Will be interesting to see what players they get in for Iraola, and how well and quickly that all comes together.

I think this is a player who is definitely at the top end of what we could realistically hope to attract this summer, it would be an incredible signing imo.
He just opens up so many options for us in terms of formation and tweaks in style. Most of us probably expect him to play behind Isak which is going to be lethal in a 4-2-3-1.
Yeah, really hoping we can tie this one up.
Because of the option to play him in that 10 position behind the striker, it then also indirectly improves our midfield options.
And so if Willock and Longstaff are still here, and not at their best, we at least have a different setup to go with.
-
Think an additional 5 + another 5 in add ons on each of those three deals gets them done.

I've always hated Liverpool fans tbh, they have delusions of grandeur and a level of arrogance you'd expect from the likes of Madrid but their success for most people who follow them on social media (i.e. under the age of 40) pales in comparison.
At least they've won a title now tbf to them, but they've always been this way for as long as I can remember even prior to Klopp so it's hardly surprising they can't shut up now.
This Isak thing has been an eye opener for me.
I thought the Arsenal carry on was bad, but these Liverpool lot are incredibly embarrassing.
Started with them making things up about Van Dijk saying stuff to him to join on the pitch after the Carabao Cup final.
Impossibly desperate.
-
I think clubs can ask permission to speak to the player regarding personal terms, before then negotiating the fee.
Although, for that to happen I imagine both clubs would have to not be too far apart in valuations, and so anticipate being able to come to an agreement eventually.

Assuming we sign Pedro, Trafford and Elanga, I’m guessing a CB would come from the continent
Would be someone much cheaper too you'd imagine.
Or perhaps someone that comes in on loan initially, to then be made permanent next summer.

Amazingly enough the Liverpool fans are far more unhinged than the Arsenal lot.

Our Plan B is more of that back 3 or 5 anyway which helped us topple Arsenal two times in a cup, Chelsea at home, notably and secure a trophy and CL football.
Yeah, his change of plan usually involves changing the formation and moving players into different positions and roles.
But his underlying philosophy and approach is what it is, as is the case with most managers.
Don't think he's looking to change that, which is seemingly what some people would prefer.

Newcastle's setup and style of play is more akin to Ragnick's high intensity approach. Ragnick rated Elanga highly, and he did well for him.
As much as there are calls for more control etc, I don't think Howe is looking at things the same way.
Looks to me like he's trying to get the team to be even better at what they already do.
Elanga would help achieve this.

@IkonHe’s as fast as Gordon with better work rate and two footed. Better at crossing too? I love Gordon but there’s an argument to be had that they’re a similar level of player.
If you look back at the early conversations around Gordon when we were linked, it was all very similar. Regarding him just being a pace merchant etc.
At Everton he hadn't achieved anywhere near what Elanga has over the past couple of seasons.
We still paid £40 million for him, and we were really only able to get him for that in January, after he had that run in with the fans there and it was all kicking off.
The summer before Chelsea were interested, and were quoted £60 million.
Gordon today looks a much better player in the Newcastle team and setup, and wouldn't go for less than £80 million?
I imagine it would all end up being a similar sort of trajectory with Elanga, if he comes into the Newcastle team, and so you aren't wrong in what you're saying at all.

Based on what's being reported in local media it sounds like he's definitely signing with us FWIW. He's very young and barely gets playing time in the Korean second tier, so probably one for the far future (or never).
Also, fuck off with all of your racist Korean jokes
they have not improved in quality one bit in the twenty years I've been on this forum.
Has he stood out internationally for your youth teams?
Wonder if that's where he was spotted.
-
Yeah, he was great at the Euros.
Against Man Utd in the Europa League he was extremely disappointing though.
If they had played him less in that tie, I think they would have put Man Utd out.

Tried to help you out here lad.
Yeah, well I didn't appreciate that cheeky dig at the end.
But it's okay, let's just stay out of each others way. I think that's for the best.
We both see things too differently and it's rarely a pleasant interaction.
I'm over it.

If it weren’t for his injuries, all the big clubs would be after him. Could be a sneaky gamble like Livramento, but way bigger.

That's pretty much his call now though.
I think we have a budget for a number of positions and so can't afford to just pay what is being asked for right away.
